A very interesting roadside stop. We were visiting the Bigfoot museum and found this. The museum is combined with the visitor center. It is one room that was possibly an old ice cream shop? Filled with many pictures and hand made statues. There was no one inside, it would have been nice to talk to someone to find out more. If you're in the area check it out!

Small but free museum. Took less than 20 minutes to go through the one room. Lots of miniature replicas of the Monster. They have their own chair that you can sit in for photos just around the corner of the building. There is another chair further away. Town is quaint. Bigfoot museum is a block away. Free parking. Saw an old pay phone that mysteriously started to ring when we walked away.

I don’t even know what to say about this. We stopped to see the Bigfoot Museum in Sutton (see that review for details) and found a flyer for this Flatwoods museum and it was about half a block away so we walked over. I had never hear of the Flatwoods monster prior to this stop. The museum is in the visitors center. There were displays and info. Nobody was inside, or if they were they did not come out to see if we needed anything, and that was fine. We spent a total of 5 minutes in here, took a couple pics and that was it. If you’re in Sutton it’s something to check out but I don’t know if I would go there specifically for it. Free admission. The building looked like maybe it was previously an old ice cream shop it apothecary.

If you are interested in crypitids, monsters or the paranormal, you need to stop in Flatwoods WV. In 1952 a monster/alien visited the small town of Flatwoods WV and has become a legend there. The Flatwoods Monster Museum is a testament to the creature. Interesting facts and history await you within the museum. The staff is extremely helpful and will answer any and all questions. The gift shop within is always a nice place to pick up some swag or trinkets to remember your visit. I highly recommend you check it out.

Very well done monument to the legend of Braxxie the Flatwoods Monster. Very nice old historic building with tons of memorabilia and souvenirs for the Braxxie fans. Shop keeper very helpful without being intrusive.....cool art work, sketches and historical photos marking the occasion of the sighting.Bonus Big Foot Museum is just down the street along with a nice coffee shop!!

Out in the middle of nowhere WV, but I'm glad I stopped by here. Nice, small, free museum that seems to act as the town hall of sorts for this tiny town in the woods. Lots of fun, cool Flatwoods Monster related merch. Very friendly and informative lady working. I enjoyed it more than the Mothman museum, which I paid to see but didn't by merch. Bought a number of things here. Also have big, wood Mothman chairs scattered around the valley to search for. Only had time to visit two. Good stop.

This was an excellent detour on my way to Pittsburgh through West Virginia. I drove past a sign that said "Flatwoods" and remembered a podcast I had listened to recently about the flatwoods monster so googled it. Sure enough this was the place. I saw there was a museum so had to stop. The museum is really fun! If you are a fan of cryptids, it's a must stop. I picked up a book on West Virginia monsters, and some postcards. Definitely recommend.

The museum is pretty small and functions more as a gift shop than a museum, but there are some pretty neat things there. You can see photos and news articles from the event, but that's about it.The people running the place are pretty friendly and I would still recommend a stop by if you're in the area or on the cryptid hunt!

Not really a museum and more of a tourist center. The information on the actual alien sighting was scant, and more organization would have been good. The repeating video should have also been more focused rather than tossing, well, everything the county had ever done together.A fun stop to stretch your legs at if it's on your way. Otherwise, don't drive out of your way to get here.

There is just something that is absolutely wonderful about how much West Virginia embraces cryptozooligy and their mythic monsters. We saw a sign on the highway for this museum and couldn't update our GPS fast enough! We had a great time here, although it didn't take more than a few minutes to see just about everything in the museum. It was a great break during a long drive, but will only really kill at MOST a half an hour. They also had an adorable stray cat in the store that they look after named Braxxi and she is the sweetest!

Unlike the Bigfoot Museum down the street, the Flatwoods Monster Museum's status as a capital-M "Museum" is perhaps a little dubious: it consists of a single room, and don't expect to be taken on a tour of it by some wild-eyed local character full of stories. However, there are some places that fill such a specific niche that their appeal lies chiefly in the experience of driving out and confirming with your own eyes that they exist; and once you've confirmed for yourself that the FMM does indeed exist (whether or not Braxxie itself does), you'll be pleasantly surprised by the available merch, which is at once quite reasonably priced and of fine quality. It's also startlingly diverse: the gift shop (read: front desk) sells everything from conventional fare such as enamel pins, postcards, and t-shirts (all of which feature charmingly creative designs) to more exotic items like collectible vinyl figurines--plus you get a free poster with every purchase!
