HSOP is a chance! Lots and lots of warm hearts and wagging tails are waiting for loving forever homes. The great staff will make sure your Adoption isn't a complicated process. It will be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. I adopted Gretchen-dog, Loki-dog, and Bridget-cat. They are my beloveds...along with 3 more rescue cats!Consider volunteering your time, or donating food, cat litter and other supplies to help the animals while they wait for their own big day, and a new loving family. Groovy place indeed. :)

We adopted our fur baby from here back in February! Great place! The staff was helpful, our fur babies foster Mom was wonderful & honest. Can’t picture life without our Maggie now. Please keep in mind the 3 days, 3 weeks & 3 months rule when adopting, it really is true! Don’t give up on them so quick.

We just adopted a female Chihuahua. They were very easy to work with and they do a great job there. Dan was very helpful with The cremation of our beloved Pomeranian named cuddles. He knew how hurt we were over our loss and was very sympathetic.

My daughter had a young stray female cat who was pregnant on her property in Parkersburg. This cat had no collar and was very thin and pregnant. My daughter fed the cat occasionally. I saw the cat was pregnant and starving. I called the Parkersburg Humane Society on Monday April 22 to see if they would take the cat. They said they had room that day, so I went to my daughters and captured her and brought her in with my daughter’s help. I paid for her adoption fee and added an extra $20 for any cost. I found out that a neighbor of my daughters claimed that was their cat who they left outside, not spayed and definitely pregnant and starving. Ultimately, the Humane Society of Parkersburg gave that poor cat back to these people one to two days after she was spayed (All the kittens were aborted). I expressed my concerned on Saturday April 27th when I dropped off a 20 pound bag of cat food to donate and inquired about the cat I dropped off on the 22nd. They responded. “ It is a cat and we do not do any screening for cats who are being adopted. We just have people fill out an adoption form. There is no screening of people who want to adopt cats according to West Virginia law. If someone is willing to adopt a cat, we will most likely let them have the cat. “ Long story short, I will never bring another cat to the Parkersburg Humane Society, who is in need of care or adoption. Anyone who does bring in a female pregnant cat to the Parkersburg Humane Society, please do not pay for her adoption fees until you know that she’s not gonna be just thrown out onto the streets. My biggest mistake was I paid for her adoption fee. The people who claimed that they were her owners would never have paid to adopt her back. They were able to pick her up for free with no cost. She was spayed with all her shots and will most likely be kept outside scavenging for food. I just hope she heals well and does not get an infection with her sutures.( How does the Humane Society release a cat just spayed with no guarantees of being inside and taking care of? How is this humane?)The only consolation I have with all of this….she is not fending for her kittens and herself. Renate Jans-Wentzel.

Went up to adopt a cat. Was told you are not allowed to hold or pet them even after filling out an application. I then asked what if we get it home and it wants to bite and scratch everyone can we bring it back. She said only if they have room. Went to Marietta humane society and held all the cats we wanted to after filling out the application. Was even told to bring the grandchildren up to hold it.Go to Marietta to adopt an animal.

It was a clean shelter when arriving and staff was friendly. My only complaint is, we adopted a kitten and was told he was fully wormed. Upon his first poo with us, he was full of tape worms. They did worm him, but they did not fully worm him from everything and only gave him a medication that only kills a small handful of parasites. This was disappointing as I do have a healthy cat at home and I am glad we quarantined him. I just can not understand how they cleaned the litter tray and did not notice white, moving worms in his poop. We have treated him at home and our vet will be handling his care properly. Just be cautious when adopted to make sure all the proper vet work was done, before putting a new pet in with your current.

This is a special place with caring staff. It was very clean, no smells. The dogs were in kennels. Our mission is to rescue older Beagles. Unfortunately, the beagle we came to rescue was not interested in us. It happens sometimes. I pray he finds his special person.

They are awesome. We are so happy with our fur baby Bandit. He is so loving and we are so in love with him. We are happy he chose us and his parents. The Humane Society of Parkersburg made everything so easy for us to give Bandit his forever home.

My littlest brother goes there every year for their summer camp and is really sad he can’t go this year. The camp gives the kids so many hands on learning experiences. He’s learned so much and he’s fallen in love with so many wonderful dogs. They help train dogs so that they will be more appealing to adopters. One year there was one dog in particular that his group had trained at camp, her name was baby. Baby is now an official member of our family and we couldn’t ask for anything greater. We’ve never had a dog before, but she was just so perfect, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. The humane society really helped us with making the adoption process easy and getting all her shots and chips.

Clean facility, especially for being understaffed. All animals seemed taken care of and had all essentials. Staff was friendly and helpful. We don't deserve dogs or animals, so let's take good care of the ones we are blessed with. Broke our hearts to hear where and what conditions that so many of these innocent dogs and cats were rescued from. GO ADOPT!

The person won’t let me see how my rabbit will react to their rabbit through the cage before I get him. Said I had to put in an application to do so and when I asked to put one in was completely ignored and she went on her phone ignoring me completely. If I could give zero stars I would

Pic of my farm.Hard to describe actually had Humane Society at my house call me a drama queen although I do believe all animals should be rescued and cared and loved for I took on a big huge fostering of a big huge Jacob sheep farm cared and nurtured those animals to full health without Humane Societies help they were supposed to give me feed and boarding fees but never received anything oh well over a hundred thousand dollars later Barn is built fences in and now it is an alpaca Farm all sheep are healthy it would have been nice to have help from the Humane Society it was a struggle to get this far but now I am here I can fully say I have a beautiful Alpaca Farm and still have a few of the sheep left some have went to great wonderful homes the others stay at my home it's hard to understand how a person can be fully feeding and caring for animals but still being investigated I have 100% proof video proof video surveillance that is of my house my barn inside my barn and outside my barn the video surveillance showing that all animals are been fed and cared for hard to get a veterinarian to be on a schedule on the farm here in West Virginia but it is done if not from one vet by several I hope everyone keeps on rescuing animals and for those people who do care and love their animals and do you get investigated don't worry they have to have something on you they have nothing on me I do love animals and care for animals it makes me sad when there is so many people out there who don't even take a bit of care and they're still out there hurting these beautiful animals the Humane Societies out doing something let's see should be actually investigating people that are really hurting their animals if they come out to a farm and see some minor issues especially in early morning I'm sure that is expected but there is many people out there that have more than just minor issues that they should be investigating after second time coming to farm there is no complaints that should be it but it won't I will continue being harassed but I am okay with it at this point in time I hope the Humane Society knows that my cameras are active and every time they come out are the videos and cameras are in front of my barn and down by the chicken coop and all the way around my house this ensures me that my animals are cared for former employees or myself it's always good to have good people working for you and always having a backup of people that can come and help out sometimes a farm can be overwhelming but in the long run there's love and joy in it as far as the two Humane officers they are very rude do not like to answer questions call people names such as once again a drama queen all because I need answers on who is doing this to me and why and of course yes I'm frustrated just like any human being what I roughly go through 502 sometimes over $500 every two weeks Justin feed from Rural King I keep my receipts for tax purposes I personally take my alpacas to OSU if there's ever an emergency which is very expensive which I have money set aside for most people don't even have this a lot of times if a farm animal does get hurt such as breaking a leg former has a right to shoot it in the head I can't do that I would do anything to help to save the life of the animal I just think the Humane Society would see this even trying to tell the officers of all my medical and all my feed cost and showing them that I can prove to them that my animals are fed in the morning and I feed them in the evenings they still those officers still love to cause problems they took and told me that they can make any minor issue into a major issue kind of took that as a threat but I'm not worried it's people like this that makes it hard to trust good people in this world as you can see all my animals are cared for and loved every day my kid enjoy helping care for the farm and In return the kids learn responsibilities keep on trying to help out all animals even though people have bad feelings of the Humane Society in a way it's not about them it's about the animals

The humane society part was very helpful with some stray kittens who needed urgent medical attention and will need homes after. I appreciate what they are doing to help so much bc the kittens wouldn't have survived otherwise.

I don’t know how they expect anyone to come in there with they way they treat people. Unprofessional and extremely rude! I went in there and asked about a cat and the lady blew up at me for no reason. They’re incredibly too invasive as well. I felt like I was being interrogated while she stood behind her desk giving me nasty looks. All I asked was if the cat was neutered and if it was good with other cats.

It is sad that places like this have to exist, but since they do, I'm glad to have this one. You can tell they truly care. Animals seem as happy as can be. There is a concrete courtyard and grassy play areas, so they can get some play time.

Over the years I have seen and used this facility and I must say they have made great improvements. The people who work and volunteer there have always been kind and attentive. To my great pleasure I must say the new buildings look great. The grounds are well kept and the new security measures are nice. It is nice to know we have a Humane Society that cares as they do.

I have been to many animal shelters n this one takes the cake. The building smelled n looked very clean, which I couldn’t say about most shelters i have been to. The workers was friendly, but they sure was busy. The doggies and kitties were very cute n I would take them all if I could. Will be coming back!

Very shady adoption experience for me.-Inquired about a dog on their website-Filled out the application-Waited on the dog to come off of stray leave-Was told the dog needed spayed(ended up not needing spayed)-Was told the dog was around 2 years old ( was told 5-6 years old when I got there)-Was told the dog passed their cat test(then was told when going to actually meet the dog that it apparently wasn't good with other dogs and bit a child at one point and that was actually why it was there). ALL information I should have gotten immediately when inquiring about the dog. Also was told one of their volunteers wanted to take the dog, so honestly, who knows if that information was true or they were just trying to get me to pass on the dog.Asked if I could get the dog 2 days after putting down the adoption fee to get everything ready for it. Was told they don't hold dogs(yet how were half of the kennels in the shelter full of dogs that were already adopted and not to their new owners home yet. I was asking for literally 2 days...)Overall...very unprofessional and shady experience.
