I’ve noticed a lot of the reviews on this shop are about puppies seemingly sick. All of the puppies taken into this store are rescues. They come in in poor condition a lot of the time and the employees here do everything they can to help them. It’s a local business, not a vet, so there’s only so much they can do. There is new management that has led to a lot of good changes, including better condition for ALL of the animals, not just the puppies and kittens. Every animal is fed and watered everyday and every cage and the floors are cleaned everyday. Some of the animals aren’t always nice because they are rescues, but the employees always make that known and there are lots of signs that say to ask for assistance if you want to pet an animal. Please check out the shop yourself before listening to some of these old reviews!!! My friend adopted a kitten (calico) from them back in November, and she’s doing very well now. She is very healthy and social and gets along with other cats. The store cat, Panda, is seemingly very healthy and lets customers pet her. Many of the rabbits come from the groomer, Jessica, so they know that they have been taken care of. The picture of the bunnies I’m including is about how the rabbit cages always look when I go in there. They’re clean, rabbits just potty a lot. Lastly, one of my mom’s unexpectedly got pregnant, so I brought two kittens here to surrender, and the manager, Alexis, personally gave me updates on when they got adopted because she knew I wanted to make sure they were happy.

Jessica is the groomer there. We take Puzzles our 20lb LONG haired cat there to be shaved/groomed. Jessica does a wonderful job with him, he looks great and he's never stressed. The girl's in the shop are great. Nice little store. Highly recommend this place.

They take pretty good care of the animals, there isn't a return policy though, even if you bought the animal the day before and it has a disease.Otherwise excellent

I visited the Animal House for my first time a couple days ago the owner was there and she was very friendly. We bought a few fish. She had an excellent variety of animals of all kinds. All of which were very healthy and very well cared for. She also had a large selection of supplies for each individual animal. She helped us get the fish we wanted and had a hard time catching them so I caught them myself she threw in a free fish for me helping out. She stayed open later than she was supposed to just to chit chat with us. overall if your looking for a great quality pet store with great hospitality I would go there. I will be recommending to all my friends.

Bought my dog here last year. She had terrible worms after they had told me she had already been dewormed multiple times, she had fleas and was extremely aggressive as she grew older. I was told she was 12 weeks, vet said she was 4. I had to bottle feed her. Do not buy from this place. They do not look into your background when purchasing an animal. They do not care about the animals well being.

I would give 0 stars..... Pet stores like this are why I NEVER EVER buy pets from pet stores. I only adopt from reputable places/shelters which clearly take care of their animals. I was taken aback by the number of kittens that were sharing a cage.... that's just not right. I was overwhelmed by the smell of urine as soon as I walked in the door. The larger snakes were in cages way too small for their size. If you are at all knowledgeable about animals, you would see how neglected these animals are. I will spread awareness about this store and hope some authority will hold them accountable for the neglect they are inflicting on these animals. Will not be returning, and will most certainly not be supporting this business.

Pups and kittens in horrible condition, they’re definitely sick and will most likely die soon. Dogs are from puppy mill, no idea where cats came from and employee made a laughable story. Fish are too big for their tanks and need to be cleaned. Birds need grooming and are crammed into cages. Alligator in back will never be able to grow to it’s normal size because of the small enclosure. Every animal there needed medical attention and will likely never receive it.

I went to this store for the first time today. When I first walked in I noticed how crowded it was with animals. There seemed to be a few people working there & lots of animal products & accessories for sale. What took me by surprise were the animals. There were massive amount of animals in single small cages. I saw huge snakes in cages so small they couldn't even stretch out all the way. I'm no animal expert by any means, I just don't see how it's healthy or acceptable to keep 6 hamsters in one cage. There was no place for them to hide & they were constantly digging in their bedding trying to hide because they were scared. What also surprised me was the fact that they had a small cage of gerbils sitting on top of a cage of cats! Many animals I saw had little to no food or water. If they did have water it was not fresh. I respect a small business don't get me wrong I just think they're not focusing on the animals enough. When I asked a worker if the kittens they sold (which looked exteremely small) were fixed I was informed that they were too young. My question is if they're too young to be fixed then shouldn't they be too young to sell? A cage of cats I saw contained a mother cat with her 3 kittens that were still nursing! Bottom line, this business has way too many animals for such a small place. There's no way it's healthy for the animals. I would not feel comfortable buying from them.

I love going to Animal House..the people there are always so nice..they work so hard to keep all the animals happy. And they are so nice to share their animals! I could not tell you how many times I have gone into the place..spent a long time just playing with the animals..bought nothing..and they were all nice and welcoming. This says a lot about the owner! You can really tell they spend a lot of time with their pets..they are all user friendly!I have read some of the other reviews..and I think it is just sad that people judge and condemn a small business trying to keep their head above water. I really wonder how many times they have been in the store..cause I have been in quite a bit..and always have a happy experience.I know sometimes they are in the back doing things...but a quick walk towards the back and a little hey there..and someone comes right out...(there are things to do, ya know). The animals are so sweet and pretty and maybe I have just been lucky..but they are always clean or being cleaned when I am there..so, people..don't believe everything you read on the net..stop in..judge for yourself..but, give them a try. We should all be backing our small businesses. :)

I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt multiple times and bought several animals from them (mainly pitty buys of sick animals) but I can no longer support a place that takes such poor care of their animals. The animals are crammed into 15 gallon tanks in awful conditions and are not separated by sex (the staff also doesn't know how to sex the majority of the animals either.) The back room is a PETA nightmare. Neither the guinea pigs or rabbits had hay ( hay should be available to both animals AT ALL TIMES) and the snakes had no water or any enrichment. Also the staff KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE ANIMALS THEY ARE SELLING! I work in a chain pet store in town and have a variety of exotic pets at home so I found myself educating them though none of it was taken into consideration. The rabbits and kittens they sell are too young to be away from their mother. I bought a guinea pig on the verge of death and brought it back to health but she never grew (probably from being weaned too early and being so sick so young) and died last week after living only a few months. I also bought two cats who were sold way to young and sick. Their growth is permanently stunted from their early care. Improvements need to be implemented ASAP.

Recently my girlfriend and I adopted a kitten from Animal House. When we adopted her she was 4 weeks old, which was very surprising to me that they would consider selling off a kitten at that young, but we decided to wait to pick her up until she was at least 6 weeks old for maturity purposes (originally supposed to be 8 weeks old but they did not know how long the mother was going to be there for, which is it's own problem). Anyway, today we picked her up and took her back to our friend's house to have her socialize with their other two cats and two problems were glaring when we got there. First was something we noticed when we picked her up, she was filthy. It seemed like she had rolled in something odd and we were not sure what it was. Second, while we were giving her a bath to clean her up, we discovered that she had fleas, as in several. We quickly went out and got the stuff to take care of the flea problem but that leaves a massive problem here: that this store is very neglectful towards it's animals and seems to be managed poorly. If you are looking for a new companion to love and care for, I highly recommend looking elsewhere, particularly at a shelter or rescue since this place is disgraceful and in many ways gross. Also, the staff seems to have little to no idea what they're talking about or doing in some cases, no one wears a uniform/name tag so finding the staff is difficult to begin with, and the woman I spoke to about vaccinations only pointed me in the direction of a minor combination vaccine and then told me that she may not even need a rabies shot!! Truly saddening and I hope they either start to take better care of their animals or simply close down.

I have purchased my parrots food and plenty of dogs and cats items from them. Not sure what people are talking about with mistreatment, but they have always cared for animals that people drop off and adopt them out, rather than the animals going to a shelter or have them euthanized. The owner is very nice and is always helpful.

Everytime I buy rabbit food from here, the price is different. The hours are also constantly changing with no notice. I don't understand if it's an understaff thing but it's extremely frustrating. My rabbit will only eat the food specifically bought here. I will no longer be giving my money to this place. Just shut down your business if you can only keep open for 30 mins every other day.

I went in to see about getting a puppy and they want $300 for a mix breed! Wouldnt be so bad except they have these poor babies caged up laying in their own urine! Why have a pet store or work at a pet store if you wont love and care for the animals you are trying to adopt out!? I will never go there again! My heart is breaking for those beautiful babies.

My friend and I got a cat from Animal House that died two days after we got it. We figured out that they sold her to us 6 weeks before she would even be weaned from her mother, even though there was only hard cat food in her cage at the store. So, honestly, we don’t know the last time she actually ate. When we first saw her at Animal House, she was cuddled up next to another kitten on a newspaper for warmth. Her stool was clear and runny and she had uncontrollable bowel movements. We bought vitamin D milk and shredded boiled chicken and tried to feed her that but she would not eat at all. So essentially, the cat was severely malnourished and should not have been sold.

I was a customer of AH for a few years. Purchased many pets from there, as well as supplies. However, the animals are mistreated and ignored a lot of the time, which is why I am no longer a customer. There are reptiles in bedding which could make them sick, too many mice and rats in single cages, the tropical birds are fed seeds, despite the fact that seeds are among the worst diets for them. Just because you have some animals and supplies in a building, doesn't mean you have a successful pet shop. Most of these animals are ill or need some kind of help. The owner doesn't get the proper help, but instead disposes of them in the cheapest way possible. I found a kitten who is malnourished and has some battles to fight. I sought the owner of AH advice, and was sickened by what she suggested that I have done. I was told to put the kitten in a pillowcase, hand it to my bf, and have him give it a good whack. But they LOVE animals. I will never set foot in that store again. Also, good point from a PP, the workers are nothing but college volunteers. They do not take the care the animals need, they don't even know much about animals. They just fill space and collect credits. Shame on the owner for doing the dark things we are all learning of to innocent animals... For nothing but a PROFIT!

Animal House is an amazing place.. I love how great all the animals were taken care of. The people that volunteer there are so caring and loving.. They have a rescue division that is non-profit.. they have experts that are on call 24/7 for them and their customers. their proceeds go to their rescues and educational programs.. They work together with mon county schools with the SWAP program. I LOVE THIS STORE and highly recommend them for all your pet and pet supplies !!!!!

Animal house is a great pet store, has everything I need. If they don't , if I ask , they order it for me. They are great with the animal , handle them daily, unlike exotic jungle and petsmart 👎🏻 its family owned and has a great friendly vibe about them. I love going in there. Even when I don't need something I go in to see the animals and all the great employees. THEY ARE AN ALL AROUND A WONDERFUL PET STORE! And I recommend Animal House to any pet lover!!!!! ❤️🐭🐰🐥🐢🐸🐠❤️

My best friend and I recently purchased a baby guinea pig from this “shelter” for $30. He seemed very small for his age of 2 months (maybe even younger bc who knows if they told me his true age). You could feel each of his vertebrae on his spine and his rib cage. He was missing multiple patches of fur and had drainage from his eyes and nose. He was clearly ill and there was nothing the animal house had done about it. The owner simply told us that he was bullied by the other guineas and that was the reason behind his low weight and patchy fur. So, we decided to purchase him and try to help him regain his health and increase his survival rate. He lived with us for TWO DAYS. Two days out of the store and he had passed away. Our friends mom, who is a vet, said he probably had some sort of Vitamin C deficiency disease called “scurvy.” No one had informed us that he had a disease or that he was sick. When he was with us he had constant food, water, hay, treats, and the supplements he needed to survive. Everything we did was correct, it was the shelters fault for his illness. These animals are not observed correctly and their illnesses are not taken into consideration. They are not examined by a proper vet, instead they make assumptions as to why the animal may look ill and malnourished. The animal house is a complete joke. I just moved to morgantown to begin college at wvu and thought I would give the place the benefit of the doubt. I’ve heard multiple stories over the past couple weeks from my friends saying that their animals they’ve adopted from the shelter have suddenly died too from an illness no one knew about. Basically, my point is do not by from this shelter, pet store, whatever they may be. They do not care about these animals and/or their health, they’re simply trying to get rid of them as quick as possible so their overcrowded shop can bring in more animals they can’t take care of. This business is a complete joke and it breaks my heart that the animals brought there are taken advantage of and sold to people with multiple diseases and abnormalities. Please do not buy anything from the animal house & do not support their “shelter”.

I went to animal house on July 6th to get a ferret. I purchased my ferret and got him home. He seemed healthy and was eating/drinking just fine. I kept my older ferret away from him so they could be introduced slowly. His poop was loose and grainy but I assumed it was the change to the Wysong Epigen food. This is where things took a change. The next day was fine but on Monday the 8th my older ferret began to act very lethargic. I let her get some rest and later that day I checked on her. Her stool was green slime. She was not eating or drinking. I put her on pedialyte mixed with distilled water and chicken baby food and warm water on her Wysong kibble. Today I took her to the vet along with the new baby ferret and she had to be put on IV fluids and both of them are now on antibiotics. It turns out the ferrets sold at animal house are carriers of ece which is highly contagious and the older the ferret is the worst the symptoms will be. You don’t even have to purchase the ferret to bring it home to yours. So do not handle their ferrets if you have one at home as it will make them sick if you touch them. You will end up having a hefty bill from the vet.

Michelle, the owner, is the smiling glue that makes everything fit together and work perfectly. She puts her heart into that shop and those animals and defines the whole concept of a small business owner, I wish all of high street was covered in businesses that put in all their ♥heart♥and soul and did things just like her. Let's waive and say hi to Michelle so she knows that she's doing a great job!!!!

They keep chinchillas in tanks. You can't keep a chinchilla in a tank! They get overheated easily and can die very quickly! Their bunnies and other small animals aren't in any better condition. Their fish tanks always look quite dirty.

Staff is nice but they're all volunteers who arent knowledgable on these animals, which is not good for a shelter who takes in abandoned or sickly animals. For example I was told a hamster cage they had would work for a rat if I were to purchase a couple, which is blatantly false, I later learned after asking rat owners. Rats need lots of room for climbing and are much bigger than hamsters- hamster cages wont cut it if you want healthy, happy rats. Also walked in there once and saw 2 large rats cramped in a tiny "travel" cage with another cage on top of them. Not only is that just pure neglect, it's very dangerous. They looked so sad and sick. The rats are also kept in tanks which is not good for them at all since they have respiratory issues and tanks dont provide a lot of ventilation. Many of their birds are also stacked on top of each other- I dont think the doves on the bottom row have seen sunlight in a long time. Place is very crowded and smells, but that tends to happen in a shelter.

Friendly staff, fairly knowledgeable, but it is a small pet store and as such you have to expect things to be a little crowded and occasionally under-stocked. Small pet stores like this don't make a lot of money so you have to give them credit where credit is do. Worth stopping in for a visit.

Let me just say the woman is lucky the kitten was so cute and distracted me.. she went on and on to tell me how he was treated for fleas, freshly bathed, and given his first shots.. now that I've had the kitten for about a week and a half, I've come to realize none of what she told me was true. The kitten is infested with fleas and I highly doubt he has any shots of any kind, because she didn't have an records to give me. Plus the kittens eyes are oozing green and he does a strange breathing like he's sick. I had to make a vet appointment with hillcrest and they told me it didn't seem good, I have yet to go the appointment isn't till Wednesday. Fingers crossed for my little guy, and hopefully the vet gives him everything he'll be needing, because animal house sure did not. The only reason I would get an animal there again is because I'd feel bad and want to save it from that environment.

I recently purchased a baby corn snake from Animal House. It was sold to me in a used container with wood shedding, (which isn't acceptable bedding for any snake.) Turns out, my snake has been VERY sick since then, and absolutely infested with mites. Basically every snake there has visible mites behind their eyes, on their scales, and God knows where else. I would know. Also, nothing against the volunteers, but a store run by college students who are just trying to pass a class that requires community service is far from what I consider credible or trustworthy. I would never recommend Animal House to anybody, there are better places you can buy a pet. AKA out in the woods, where I, personally, could pick up a wild snake and bring it home to raise myself.
