Stayed in Cabin 5 over President's Day weekend with my family. Location is beautiful. The cabins are individually owed. Our cabin clearly needed updating and a deep cleaning. Cobwebs were everywhere and the shower curtain had mold on it. Bedding should be updated as well as the couch. If you are paying a high price for your stay the inside of it should represent it.

2 stars is because the resort is in a really good location for exploring the area. Beware what cabin you rent. All are individually owned and the resort does not seem to have a standard that they must be kept to. We rented cabin 9. It was badly in need of renovation. Smells like mold / mildew, terrible bed mattress, uncomfortable furniture, stove top falling apart, drywall peeling in places, slow internet and ultra grainy cable TV. We felt more sick the longer we we were there. We left 2 days early and immediately felt better. The resort has a lot of potential, but the cabin quality is a gamble.

$155 per night for 3 nights advertised. After hours of research and decision making get to final page and total is $770. Scam. Be aware and check for the hidden fees before spending time deciding to book here. Just slimy practice.

Do not book here unless you want them to cancel your room on you, without any notification, and then confirm your booking when you call anyhow, leaving you stranded in the middle of a snowstorm. Here’s my experienceI was extraordinarily dismayed and upset to find that when I arrived on Friday night with my wife and sleeping toddler for this confirmed stay, there was no key, and I was told by the maintenance person (the only person who could be reached) that the room had been given away to someone else. This was particularly shocking because two days earlier to confirm my stay, gave my name, and the person working at your desk said that yes, I had cabin 94. I thought this was strange because I had cabin 77 on the registration, but your form indicates cabins may be switched. I told her I would be arriving after hours and when we did I followed her instructions, only to find no envelope with my name or cabin number. We were forced frantically to find another room for the night to avoid a 3.5 hour drive back home (it was 10 pm by this point) during a snowstorm. Fortunately we were able to find a room at another motel but only for one night. When I returned the next day to talk to someone at your front desk, she informed me that our room had been canceled in January. To be extremely clear, neither my wife nor I canceled our room. Nor did we receive any notification of the cancellation at the time that this happened, in any way, though they had my phone and email. The person working the desk also said that the room I was told I had when I called two days before check in was for another person with my same first (but not last) name, but clearly not me. Nevertheless, this staff member insisted we cancel the reservation, which we clearly did not do as we showed up at 10 pm for the room.So to recap, Black Bear resort canceled my room reservation when (I presume) someone else called to cancel their room, provided no notification of the cancellation, then this past week confirmed to me over the phone that I had a reserved room on the dates designated, and left me stranded in the snow with my wife and almost 2 year old struggling to find a warm place to stay the night. When I pointed this exceedingly unacceptable, unprofessional, and frankly almost unbelievable behavior (except that I have the receipts) to the staff, they said there was nothing they could do, not even fully refund the cancellation fee for a cancellation we did not request or want. They have ignored repeated emails and phone calls.Do not stay here unless your idea of a good time is to be stranded in your car during a snowstorm because they gave away your reservation, then confirm your non existent room anyways, and then ignored all requests for a remedy.

My family and I recently stayed at this resort cabin 93. The home is beautiful and minutes away from activity. The only problem we had was that the home was extremely dusty, the sheets were not properly cleaned, and the grill had what looked like a rats nest in it. We drove 18 hours to get there and instead of settling in we had to clean the house and wash all of the sheets since they smelled like sweat. The host Grace was friendly at first then it all changed when she was told how the home was received and that I had taken photos so she can see and speak with her staff. I’ve never had negative experience with a host/owner before but since then she has been very rude!! But like I previously mentioned the home and location is beautiful but the cleanliness of the home needs a lot of work and staff needs improvement on hospitality and customer service!

The room was clean and comfortable. Service during the check-in process was friendly. The facility was quiet and peaceful even with other guests present (a plus for the atmosphere of the environment (additional points for having quiet hours posted AND being a dark-sky community)). The only negative I can think of is (try not to laugh) the toilet was too small. Highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I stayed in cabin 20B,and we were completely amazed. The woman working at the office was so sweet and so helpful. It was our first time and she made sure to let us know about everything. The cabin was absolutely beautiful. Absolutely no complaints, nothing but 5 stars the whole time.We will definitely be going back,3 days went so fast,it was worth it the whole time.(:.

My oldest son went to Cross Country Camp, this part week held at the Black Beat Resort in Canaan Valley, and it was fantastic. It was the first time my wife and I had ever visited this resort and I can honestly tell you that we will be returning. We actually did not have the privilege to stay at the resort, we were only there on drop off day for the camp and family pic-up day, but my oldest sun got to enjoy the resort all week and he said that it was wonderful. There are plenty of adventures to be had around the area of the resort, I posted just a few of the pictures we took. So if you have never been to the area before and enjoy the outdoors half as much as we do I highly suggest that you go check it out for yourself.

This is a beautiful area and the large cabin that we stayed in was not only beautiful but very spacious. Ski resort area in winter and the view from the top of the slopes is spectacular. Very close to black water falls, a Must see if you are in area. Very close to Davis, West Virginia for supplies. Horse back riding available at reasonable prices. Don't pass this area by without a stay.

We had the only cabin that our grill was chained to a tree in the driveway. Every other one had a nice big grill on the deck.. They wouldn't let us move it and that's how we planned on cooking. Irritating..The website description said jacuzzi...I assumed jacuzzi hottub...it was a jacuzzi bath tub. All in all it ended up being okay. The view is beautiful and I guess if you plan on skiing, hiking etc, it would be a nice place. We have a toddler and thank God I prepared to toddler proof the cabin. There wasn't much for us to do bc of the weather and having a toddler. We made the best of the weekend but definitely will not be returning. I should have done more research before booking this place. Also there were no inside pictures of the cabin and had there been we would not have stayed here. It was clean and nice to have a full kitchen and washer and dryer but definitely not what we were expecting. Oh and we had a 15inch TV. 😪

I actually did not get to stay but want to give a good review for the contact and services rendered. I was expecting to stay and had to cancel because it was much farther from our destination than expected. Black bear resort was very understanding and professional about it. Because of their customer service we will be spending time in their resort in the future. Thank you Black Bear Resort, see you soon.

We stayed at one of the cabins (Rest Assured) for several days. Very nice cabins nicely stocked with kitchenware, luxury towels and cloths for the bathroom, and a wonderful jacuzzi. Gorgeous views and a perfect situation to visit surrounding attractions.

We are vacationing in cabin #70. Extremely friendly and easy to work with staff. My young children love the pool. It seems huge and the scenery is beautiful! Mini golf is free and super fun, but not maintained extremely well...same with tennis courts. Maintenance men responds very quickly, but the fact that we needed the maintenance guys speaks for itself.

This is our tenth years coming here. We always love it. The cabins are fantastic and well equipped. The pool and facilities are always well maintained. The staff and other guests are always a blast. The surrounding area had plenty of things to do such as hiking, swimming, horseback riding, and enjoying nature.

We stayed at black bear resort January 2021. We spent two nights in cabin #39. It was cozy and clean. The resort is minutes from both Canaan and timberline. The staff was really kind and helpful. The entire process was very easy. Don’t be discouraged by negative reviews about this not being a hotel. For our weekend stay we had plenty of toiletries and towels. You are responsible for laundering the provided towels and stripping your sheets when leaving. There is a simple check list to complete before you go. We plan on using black bear in the future.

Unfortunately we had a family emergency and had to cancel our stay. I was dreading the call asking for a partial refund. The office manager was extremely helpful and offered a different date. Sadly we couldn't make a committed date and had to ask for that dreaded refund. Once again the office manager was more than willing to help and gave us more than a partial refund, no questions ask. I can't wait to be able to stay here!

Very comfortable has everything you need for a relaxing time away fro home. The staff at the office were very friendly and helpful. We had a small problem with the lights in a bathroom the repairman was there 15 to 20 minutes after we called and he was just as nice and friendly as the office staff. A fairly price rental that we will use again.

This is a unique place that ranks high on the places where I have stayed. One complaint is the mosquitoes. They are going to be everywhere, including in the house; so bring plenty of bug spray. The weekend became a little noisy, but this wasn't the resort's fault, just drinkers up the way that were a little too lively. The deluxe house was excellent, though. Perhaps these round homes are somewhat snug, they are packed with all the amenities of home. The pool was great. The grounds were well maintained. It was thoroughly a pleasant experience staying here, and I would return again.

The located was great and the property was beautiful. We stayed in Cabin #3 and it was definitely not worth the money we paid for it. It needed updated so bad and there was no hot water. Only enough for a quick 2 minutes shower no curtains and had a smell to it. Very disappointed

Enjoyed Black Bear Resorts so much booked a cabin again. Great convenient location. Recommend larger parties bring extra paper towels and toilet paper. We stopped by the grocery store in Davis and had a couple quiet nights in front of the fire. This was possible due to the ample firewood available.

Stayed for 3 nights on during a memorial day weekend. This resort located in a picture perfect location. We stayed in Unit #71. It is neat and well equipped with everything you need. It also stocked with board games. My kid loved one of the games. We played and have had fun. There is kid's play area across this unit. My loved the swing there in particular. Even this unit has bench swing. We booked for 3 nights and got one 1 extra night free. This resort has a club house, a pool and a mini golf course. We didn't use these much. One minor downside is like most of the pedestal cabins here in this resort, this cabin doesn't have AC. This can make the cabin hot in summer days. Even though the temperatures at night drops, there is no way you can open the windows to cool down the cabin.Another downside is, unlike a typical hotel checkout, you are expected to leave cabin as tidy as possible. You are also expected to start the laundry of the towels you have used before you leave. We have learned this the hard way. We left recyclable bottles and cans out trash bins(we could not find a spare trash bag) thinking the cleaning staff will bag them to recycle since we didn't want to put them in trash that ends in landfill. Instead we are hit with damage fee and the management also claimed we had a pet as they found pet hair. I called them to refute their claims. They said they will reduce the charge.I will stay in resort again.
