On my way through to Williams River, I dropped in for a late lunch. The staff were pleasant and attentive, and my cheeseburger and onion petals arrived much faster than I'd anticipated. The place was only half full on a Friday afternoon and that shocked me, but it was still a pleasing experience. I'd have to say that the Hilltop is a pretty decent diner and better than average in the area.

Granddaughter and I came for my class reunion, the best biscuits and gravy I have ever eaten and she agreed. Also sausage, eggs and hashbrowns. Nice atmosphere, and server was very nice and helpful.Parking: Nice parking

The food is truly amazing. Home cooked food is out of this world. The waitress is always so nice. She remembered us from our last visit months ago. There is no doubt this is one of my top places to eat while traveling. Always a great dining experience.

Stopped here on our way to Charleston. Food was very simple and delicious. Staff was attentive and sweet. I also loved their chocolate and butterscotch milkshakes. I ordered grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Will definitely come back.

We visit WV every fall and have stopped by the Hilltop 2 years in a row. Some of the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had, eggs are always perfect. The lady who served us is so friendly and the laid-back atmosphere is nice. We love small, locally owned restaurants and this one is a gem. We will keep coming back.

Honestly the food from here is always amazing. The food is freshly made always. The menu has reasonable prices. I generally stop here couple times a month when I don't want to cook due to these reasons. Really worth visiting at least once.

Looking for a good home cooked meal and happy we stopped. We had the roastBeef dinner and hamburgerSteak dinner with onion rings and mashed potatoes and green beans. By far the best meal we had in a long time. Service was somewhat slow but made sure each plateCame out as ordered. Staff veryFriendly. Portions were perfect and food was as good as homemade.

It was great the first 3 times. Then disappointing after that. Don't order their taco salad. You get more chips than meat or anything else for that matter. Be prepared for a wait on anything ordered. 6-18-22 once again tried taco salad, horrible. Used lettuce from one of their salads, had cucumbers in it. Chips were pounded down to crumbs underneath. Hamburger was "fake". Nacho cheese was like Velveeta. Plain sloppy and lazy.

The food was phenomenal and even though it was a packed house and the waitress was busy, she was very respectful and prompt about taking orders and delivering the food! The first time I've ever been there and I definitely had a delightful meal with my in-laws!!!

I love the Hilltop! I come to Cowen with a church group twice a year for church camps/retreats, and our setup team always makes sure to go to the Hilltop for breakfast at least once. The staff is always friendly, and the food is DELICIOUS. Everything is prepared in house and definitely tastes just like the food Grandma used to make. It does take awhile for the food to come, but it's so good that I honestly don't even mind the wait. I'm incredibly grateful for this little slice of home.

Compared to what it was when Brownie and Betty Hardway owned it years ago it falls very short of expectations. Sometimes service is great, sometimes it's terrible. Same for the food and it often takes a very long time to get your order. Aside from that, they've priced themselves so high that it's cheaper to drive out of town than to eat there. Maybe out-of-towners passing thru from bigger areas who are used to paying $15.00 for a cheeseburger and fries think their prices are a deal but for most locals it is anything but a deal.

Food is great! Service is great! Atmosphere is great! Sweet tea is the best! This country diner is the best in cowen! (It's the only one in cowen). Free wi-Fi. It's the hangout place of the mountains. Real down home folks coming and talking with everybody like they're you're best friend! I love the atmosphere! Have to try it...

Got over charged, hostess kept wiping nose on arm before reaching the food, & failed to elaborate upon lack of food stock until time to retrieve food. By then, the reorder of a new meal left the rest cold. All this was only the tip of the sad iceberg. After eating, the parties who'd gotten their meals at this particular location had gotten ill. I'll definitely pass not time.

I never pass by without stopping in. I've never had a bad meal. From the amazing breakfast bowl to the some of the best hotdogs in WV. Don't leave without trying some desserts or a milkshake.
