We come here often to ride our bicycles. It’s always a pleasure. There are two new areas that need smoothing out but otherwise the trail is always very well maintained.

Visited for the first time in early April. The beginning of spring made for easy access to the river and I found a number of places where you could easily get into the water. The fisher people mentioned catching rainbow trout 🎣 There were a few guys up and down the river. The trail is stunning. Great for bikes or walking with a child or dog. There are occasional seating areas/picnic tables. There are historical markers along the path as well.Restrooms: Port-a-pottyDog-friendliness: 💯

Did the whole 13.5 miles on AllTrails. Relatively flat although you will have over 800 ft in elevation spread out in and back out. Beautiful Piney and Tye Rivers run along the trail. Beautiful bridges and a few farms. Scale house at the end at 6.75mi.

Beautiful and scenic trail for biking. Approx 7 miles long (14 round trip) across covered bridges, meandering along rivers and pastures. Fairly level, some gentle grade so you feel like you got some work out. The crushed stone does create a dust that was irritating to my eyes the first go round. This time I brought these inexpensive workshop glasses and it solved the problem. Highly recommend. 👍

Loved this 14 mile round trip bike trail! The trail is well maintained. It's nice and flat, makes for an easy ride. Great views along the bridge. Nice picnic tables along the way. Two convenient bathroom options near the trailhead too. I would definitely come again!

Beautiful ride on our bikes on a very warm February day. I have an electric adult trike and loved the ride. Restrooms were not open, but there was one portable at the main entrance. The path is about 7.5 miles long with several picnic tables to stop and enjoy the views, so bring a picnic lunch along! Trail is well cared for and a great place to walk or bike.

Mothers day trip! I love this trail! It is flat and gravelly no dust and mud like some trails... perfect for biking ...mostly everyone we passed was biking... and the bathroom just past the bridge on your way in is immaculate... seriously cleaner than a bathroom at a big box store... in the middle if the woods. There are lots of places to get down to the water and lots of picnic spots along the way... we only walked 3 miles in...can't wait to visit again!Horses are also welcome here!

We love cycling on the Piney River rail-to-trail. It's great for multiple-generations as the gentle slope making a great practice pad for kids and we've brought grandparents along for the full family experience. During the warmer months there are a string of swimming & playing spots along the river as well as a few picnic tables for fancy lunch spots. A+

This is great well maintained trail located in Nelson county. The trail is quiet and has some beautiful views of the river. It is good for hiking and bike riding. The full trail is over 6 miles long but there are rest areas with picnic tables too

Nice level paved trail for a tranquil hike or stroll. Suitable for a baby carriage or wheelchair. The fishing is good in that section of the piney river, hover it is catch and release from October- the 1st of June.

It's an ok trailhead. Gravel parking lot, no water and a porta potty. There are a couple of interpretive signs and a map of the trail. Leaving the trailhead the trail is paved for a short distance but unfortunately riding it is like riding a washboard due to the tree roots so your glad too get to the crushed stone which is lumpy but doesn't rattle your teeth out.

We had a wonderful horseback ride as always on the BRRT. The wind made it chilly, but the trees were a good buffer. The water was higher than usual, and it made for a nice river view. Every single person we passed was polite and friendly.

A lovely place to stretch your legs! Opportunities for fishing as well as a story walk for kids. It's roughly seven miles one way, so unless you have a bike, you likely can't walk the whole trail in a day.Restrooms: One Port-a-John, so be prepared to wait sometimes.Dog-friendliness: Perfect for a nice long walk.Picnic area: Several benches and picnic tables scattered along the trail. There's a picnic pavilion near the 4-mile mark.

This is one of the best trails in Virginia. Lots to see, great access to the river, covered bridges, and not that many inclines or hard bits. Enjoy!

This is almost the perfect bike trail. It's in a beautiful part of Virginia, and winds along the Tye River. It has a good level surface that's mostly sand or gravel, and it's slightly challenging with some very gradual inclines. The only thing that would make it better is if it was longer.

Great mountain river rail trail with fantastic views, interesting scenery, on a flat well maintained trail. Just the right length to be a worthwhile ride, but not overly intimidating to recreational cyclists.

Great flat, easy trail that typically has enough traffic to feel safe but not so much that it hinders your experience.

Fairly flat, mostly unpaved path that follows the Piney and Tye Rivers. It's 6.5 miles one way, with no exit at the South East end, so you have to turn around so some point. It's nice that every quarter mile there's a marker. You only cross one road (very rural). There's a display of an old railroad scale at the far end.

Great ride on hard-packed unimproved surface, although there are some ruts. Great views of the The River. Mountain and hybrid bikes. There a couple picnic areas.

Loved this under the trees shade trail. We biked it and enjoyed not being too crowded. Well maintained too, even though it's not paved.Restrooms: The ones near the parking lot are CLOSED (boo!) but there is a portable one not far from it.Dog-friendliness: Bring your dogs (on a leash, of course) so they can enjoy nature too.
