Very kind folks that care for the animals and are knowledgable. The place is a lot cooler than a petsmart. There is a smell but this is virginia, its humid here, and there are a ton of aquariums. I really enjoyed checking out their large selection of fish.

Really nice staff, this is a "mom n pop" type of store, so you get the unique experience of quirky, but fun unlike the big chain pet stores. If you are looking for pet supplies, probably best to order online for cheaper options (as all pet stores are known for higher prices), but if you're looking for a pet, this place probably has it... really fun experience! We love our rabbits- they are healthy and sweet!

HORRIBLE FISH CARE!!!! Betas are in 2 inches of dirty water. The containers they’re in? Drinking cups. Stacked on top of each other. Saved 2 betas that were damn near dead. The guy behind the counter tossed the bag in front of me, with the fish in it. Just horrible conditions.

The staff here is excellent! The selection available is great, and the prices are just right. Definitely recommend for your pet care needs. Come ask their knowledgeable staff, and if they personally don't know, they'll find you someone who can help.

I am torn in the middle when I write this review. The employees are very friendly and helpful. However I feel like the animals could be in better condition. They have the chinchilla and the sugar gliders near the bird cages. Chinchillas and sugar gliders are nocturnal. Why place the nocturnal animals right next to the loud chirping birds? It causes extreme stress for the chinchilla and sugar gliders, you can tell the animals are stressed because as soon as you walk past either of the critters they lash in a defensive act. You don't even have a nice "hideaway" hut for the chinchilla to relax in. The chinchilla has no privacy except for his bath house. I would be more than willing to buy the chinchilla a shelter so he can have a privacy hut. Also the times that I have visited I have not seen anything for the chinchilla to chew on to grind his teeth down. I would also be more than willing to buy it chew sticks/blocks! I'm serious! Please reply back to my review if you would like to take me up on my offer to purchase the stuff for the chinchilla.Edit: I got a question how come it smells like straight up ammonia by the mice/rat section? Do you really let the urine and feces build up that bad before cleaning out their cages? Changing to a 1 star.

Please read (truthful review). My wife and I have been coming to this location for many years however, it has gone downhill more and more every single day. The biggest issue is the quality of care and time that is allotted to the animals, many are underfed and not kept to proper heating and UV standards. Most of the creatures here are sadly dead... or dying. The working staff (excluding the owner, David) is excellent at caring for the customers, but not for the pets!Regarding the owner of the company, he is not deserving of our hard-earned money. He will often ask customers "Why are you buying that?" or will say harsh things to his hard-working and underpaid employee's. I have actually seen him physically lay hands on his workers in addition to working them for almost a week without pay for new hires. It is really unfortunate to see a business treat its community, workers, and customers like this. Please consider shopping elsewhere... more like VetWorld.Thanks for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful day!

I have shopped at this location for over 30 years. The staff has always been great. Especially now. The owner his always been customer friendly. They have done many s.o. sales for me. I am most impressed by the integrity that they have. Example ,I have seen fish before that I interested in and they have said let's wait and make sure these guys are healthy here before you take them home. I have also done some returns through the years and always have treated fairly, unlike the big box stores you treat you like a thief. Also they have a rewards program that really does pay you cash back on what you buy. 5 stars

Excellent people, knowledgeable staff, competitive prices, tank prices better than anyone. They keep much healthier fish and animals than the chains. Huge selection compared to the chains, the general supplies might be on sale somewhere cheaper but you will never get the care and knowledge that you get here. I've been doing this as a hobby for many years this is one of the last true pet shops.

I wish I could give 1000 stars. My husband and I came in today for supplies for our turtle tank. We were able to find the filter we needed, the floating dock, their food, everything. The people who work in the store are AWESOME I spent over an hour in there. Top notch customer service, their selection is huge, and they have every fish you could imagine. We will be going back once their rope fish are available to buy and spending our money in that store for any pet or aquarium needs we may have in the future. I can’t say enough nice things! And their prices are even cheaper than amazon for what we got today. I would have spent $200 easy at any other store but I left today with a new filter (very large one) and a backup cartridge, a large turtle dock, several fish and shrimp for my babies to eat and a few other items for $80 plus they do a rewards program. Yep we will be customers for life! Thank you for your wonderful store guys.

Friendly staff. Decent selection. Not the most knowledgeable on Saltwater fish. Also noticed they feed live brine shrimp which is probably good for makes it difficult for a novice to care for marine fish purchased here unless you grow live brine shrimp.

I love this place the down home feel that I get here is unmatched by the so-called “big” retailers. The owner is such a nice and friendly person who’s even went out his way to order things just for me. Melissa’s fish knowledge and customer service skills are impeccable. Bought a veiled chameleon from here and the required setup. The owner was extremely helpful along with the staff. And this was before they knew i was about to spend a decent amount of $$$!! Great staff,good selection and range of supplies and animals. Price:average to Slightly above average.

Extremely poor conditions for every creature they carry. The smell of the cages were over powering and nauseating. Most everything was filthy.I was looking for a place to stock my aquarium, but the fish were not healthy looking. A few appeared to have ich or other diseases.Between the smell and the sad state the animals were in, I could not wait to get out of there. Disgusting.

Used to love coming here even though, its a 30 minute drive for me but the last couple experiences ive had have made me change my mind. I came in to buy some fish and aquatic plants and was helped by kaylie who was very unpleasant. She did not have good customer service skills and when asking what the price of a plant was her response was " i dont know" and left it at that. Very unprofessional.Update (7/27/21): Great selection of products and animals however. I hate giving this place my business. Customer service sucks. While getting help from an employee that was catching fish for me. She talks to another employee about how annoying it is when customers ask for certain fish and then shortly after tells me that if there's any other fish that I want then I'll just have to get whatever she gives me because she's tired of trying to catch the fish.

I visited the store and politely spoke to the young man that was near cash register; No response did I hear and then walks up to him Caucasian lady that works there and completely acts like I was not there. I then walked out of this place! I am from out of town and to be regarded like this because of the darkness of my skin color makes no sense.

Went in to the Warwick Blv. Location today just to browse. The cages were appallingly disgusting. The smell of the small animal cages was nauseating. When asked how often they cleaned their cages, an employee told us we’d have to ask someone else, but that it’s okay because they are “just feeders” never mind the fact that they are living creatures who deserve to be treated with humanity.They had three employees that were visible. One was sitting, playing on her phone. Another was using profanity talking to the other. And the male employee tried to suggest that the crested gecko that has dropped its tail would regrow it, which it will not. And several animals reptiles that appears unhealthy or very thin. And to make it better there were literally roaches crawling out of the wall and could be found all over the store. It was sad and pathetic and they should be ashamed.

Horrible experience. Do not buy aquatic plants from here. Mine were covered with dead baby snails (HORRIBLE stench), and the plants were dead themselves. Not even difficult plants - java moss and duckweed. How do you mess that up? When I called in they said they do not refund live purchases. Poor service and poor product don't waste your money here.

I wouldn’t recommend this store to anyone, nothing but bad experiences here with the management and animals. I recently purchased a budgie who died within the same week, I called the store and was offered store credit or a new bird, I don’t want another bird that’s just going to be sick and die within a week’s time again, and I don’t want store credit as I will no longer bring my business to this store. The manager was extremely sarcastic over the phone and not helpful at all. I should’ve known better than to take a chance purchasing an animal from this store again, as the same thing happened with a bunny we got here a little over a year ago.

I loved the way everything was kept, clean and neat. All of the fish tanks looked algae free, all reptile cages were perfect, all of the animals looked healthy and happy, and a massive selection of cages and decorations. This would be the go to place for this area for any fish or reptile needs. Maybe not for cats and dogs though. I'm pretty sure that is what the Pet Co. around the corner is only good for.The employees could possibly be a bit more active and nicer, and interact with customers, but I wouldn't say they are rude.

All of the staff has been very helpful, I go there frequently, I just began a new salt water tank. The owner is a little stand offish but his staff makes up for him not being very welcoming; as I have become a regular customer. Jacobi, Sabrina & Chelsea are particularly helpful and always takes time out to teach me so for that I am very grateful.

First off the staff were very friendly and helpful. If I'd went in for aquatics I might have a different review because that selection seemed vast. However I went in for kitten supplies and there weren't many options. It was the prices though that shocked me. The kitten formula and bottles were almost double of what I found online and later at other pet stores.

Staff was friendly and helpful. They had the fish I had been searching for for months. One of the better options around Williamsburg/Newport news for harder to find fish. If anyone is looking for discus they usually have a tank of them. Not sure about the saltwater selection as I don't usually look but they do have a wall or two of saltwater options.
