You can get good deals on sale 8tems, but regular price are really high. An 8 pack of Yoplait yogurt at Walmart is $4. And at Food Country the same item is $7.

It's a nice grocery store. Always looks clean and well stocked. But the biggest footprint but plenty of variety. The bakery and deli seem above average for grocery stores. The indoor eating area looks inviting and I haven't tried it. They also carry a neat seasonal area with interesting items.

The obvious pro is that this place offers a selection of goods that makes it possible to pick up something when you don't feel like making the 15-20 minute commute to Walmart or Food Lion in Wytheville.Flip side of the coin is that prices are considerably higher than those same stores. Use it to fill in for stuff you forget when you're in town, but it's not worth making it your primary grocery store.

Produce is always fresh....expiration dates are always checked....staff works hard to have a nice grocery store...and they are always pleasant and ready to help customers.

Very convenient location. Always check dates on anything you plan to purchase because I've made the mistake of not doing this and got home with potato salad that was 3 months past the sale by date. If you check dates closely it's worth shopping here to save yourself a 20 min drive to another grocery store. The store manager at this particular location is very rude and disrespectful to the staff and customers. If you ask him for assistance he's standoffish at best.

It's was good. They have moved things all around in the store so alittle difficult to find items. I'm sure after a few trips it will be fine.Finally learning were things are at. 🙂

We stopped overnight in this area of VA on the return leg of our Christmas trip. Being vegetarians and traveling with dogs, restaurant dining wasn't really an optiony so I ran over to this local grocery for something that could be eaten cold or heated in the microwave. I found this store to be well stocked and offering many options acceptable to our diet. This clean, well-lit store was staffed by friendly folk as well. All in all, a pleasant shopping trip as I went in expecting the worst since we were in a quasi-rural location with no evidence of any nearby competition. Prices seemed reasonable as well.

Got to admit, I wasnt impressed with this store when I first moved to this area but it checks all the boxes, pretty competitive and I've come to appreciate the convenience and the service!

I bought a serving of grape chicken salad and it was essentially a mayonnaise soup. I threw most of it out. As for prices, they're slightly higher than fair market value. This place is also in the middle of nowhere haha

They seriously need to do something about their freezer cases. There's stick layers of frost on some of the food, and some of the stuff has the appearance of having thawed and refrozen. I avoid this place even though I do like to support our small local grocery store, I just feel like they are taking advantage of people in our area. They really ought to take a loss on the product and claim it on their insurance or something.

I am writing this review because I e-mailed Food Country USA via their website with this complaint on Thursday. As of today they are continuing to ignore me.I have lived in Fort Chiswell all of my life and have frequented the Food Country location there since it was opened. However, in recent years I am sad to say that the quality and management have become nigh intolerable. Last week as I was picking up a few essentials I grabbed a bottle of pop from one of the coolers while the cashier rang up my other items. I walked back to finish my transaction and heard one of the managers say "were you raised in a barn? You didn't shut the door all the way." At the time I thought she was speaking to one of the employees, and I thought it was an incredibly rude thing to say. She repeated herself by saying: "I was talking to you. Were you raised in a barn? You didn't shut the door all the way."She was talking to me.I did not say a word because I was extremely shocked at the lack of respect shown toward a paying customer. I simply finished my transaction and walked out the door, uncertain if I would ever go back in a Food Country store if that is how management treats those around them. It was rude no matter the circumstances, but remarkably so toward a customer. Instead of simply shutting the door and going about her business, she felt the need to call me out.I worked at Food Country for over a year, and treating a customer that way wouldnot have been tolerated under any circumstances.I am writing to say that I am extremely disappointed in the direction these stores are heading, and even more disappointed that they are apparently not interested in fixing it. Managers should be there to serve, not admonish, and until this is made clear to the Fort Chiswell management I will not be returning to that store.

Very friendly cashiers and employees. For the area, this store has an excellent selection. Prices are a little higher than Wal-Mart but overall this is a great place. Excellent meat selection and low priced meats!

Great staff. Small store limits selection slightly but still my favorite out-in-the-boonies grocery store. Food Country does not require customers to carry one of those pesky purchase tracking cards.

Cashiers are always talking to each other, on their phones, and prices are outrageous. Check expiration dates because employees don't. Have seen green meat on the shelves and bought several bad dairy products here. Also during the pandemic the managers allow cashiers and patrons to pull mask down under chin or not wear one at all and I've seen managers even without them on.

I had 2 toddlers in the car asleep and I called the store and they came out to the car and got money and got my milk and juice for me so I wouldn't have to wake up the babies! I thought that was awesome!! Thank you Food Country in Max Meadows, VA

A nice 'country' atmosphere, friendly employees and reasonably priced. It's a bit of a drive for us but we make the effort to shop there every few weeks.
