We've had an appointment for a month to surrender a lab, we've been put off 3 separate times from our original scheduled date and now have been told to call animal control because they're full. Why make an appointment in advance? Where's the professionalism?

Update: Great new dog park in back! Two sides for pooch separation.Perfect place to find a dog or cat. Staff could not be more helpful and there's a wide selection.I fostered this sweetietoday and hope to adopt after the foster trial period that also involves all the care -- shots, worming, flea bath and eventually neutering -- is completed.

I adopted my Sadie from here when I lost my dog Bella. The other day I had a kitten needing help, I didn't know what to do for the kitty! I took it here, Jessica was more than helpful taking the kitty inside, explaining the eyes were ruptured. Thankful that this place existed and I am sure the kitty was as well. Kudos to Jessica (clinician) for being an exceptional human being. More people like you are needed in this world. God bless you and the team there.

We adopted Milo just a few days ago. The entire staff was so amazing and welcoming and the adoption process was quick and simple.Milo is an Australian Shepherd / Rottweiler mix and we got him as a companion for our German Shepherd, Missy. It was love at first sight.While Missy has had to adjust to sharing her home, she is much happier and Milo is a huge help with her PTSD.Last night, someone was setting off fireworks so tonight, she became nervous again. She wouldn't eat her dinner and she would not come outside because she was scared.We sat outside with Milo with the basement door open. Milo was barking for her and coaxed her to come downstairs. He then went inside several times, urging her until she finally came out. He watched me rubbing her ears as she groaned in pleasure and he then started nuzzling the other ear and took over completely. She loved it and quickly forgot why she was worried in the first place.She went potty and they played, came inside and she finished her dinner.In 3 short days, Milo has been house broken, learned several tricks and stolen all of our hearts.

The staff was really friendly and helpful & ready to help. We have been to several SPCA an Animal shelters and this one in particular wins the best well kept animals, and cleanest, neatness, and the place didn't even smell like they had animals. Sorry to say but other SPCA's smell like urine & poop but not this one, it smelled so fresh in there and every animal that we pet they smell good that day we adopted 1-year old cat named Queen Elizabeth but we changed her name at home & she is an adorable cat and she is adapting great to her new home😺🐾❤ her favorite spot now is the window sill 😹

I just adopted my sweet Roman a few weeks ago. Everyone was so helpful and nice. Except for the lady at the front desk who was EXTREMLEY rude. I was informed that i could foster him until his spay/ neuter date which was 10 days away and i wanted to take his sweet soul home until then, so i went to the front desk to sign these papers and the front desk lady told me “ No you cannot fostering is not offered to just anyone” and then sent me away. With tears in my eyes i walked to the back and explained to the workers what happend. The sweet manager got me the papers and told me he’s mine to foster! Front desk lady made SURE to let me know this was a “special exception the don’t normally do” and that if he wasn’t back by his neuter day he will be seized by animal control. What an awful tone to ruin someone’s adoption day…. Roman is the happiest puppy and i am so grateful to the Manager ❤️

Adopted my cat from here. Adoption process was easy. The place is clean and pets well cared for. I recommend anyone to adopt from here. Their adoption fees are very reasonable too!

I fostered a little kitten from here and would have loved to keep him.Unfortunatly we were not a good match as Im on blood thinners and little kittens scratch even when they don't mean to. I hope he finds a furever home where he can be loved as much as he loves humans.

Omg, the interaction with the folks at Martinsville SPCA could not have been better. Marie was straight up a professional, Susan accommodating, Christina was so gracious and friendly. We had disappointing visits at the Roanoke SPCA and Angels of Assisi, also in Roanoke. Uncertain as to the policies and procedures, but clearly there is poor communication and an inability of the staff to define the process for adoption. We visited Martinsville SPCA and fell in love with Rhett and Scarlet. They came home with us and we haven't stopped smiling since. They are playful, unafraid and having a wonderful time in their new home. Thank you Martinsville SPCA. FYI, they have a brand-new beautiful new bed but that's a towel rack they apparently prefer to sleep in.

It's amazing how and what they do for those animals but I think there should be more things they can do as far as medical situations. They should have a animal doctor on site to tend to people's pets if someone brings a animal in hurt. It would be nice if they offered more Veterinarian services for the local community because there aren't any Veterinarians around this area and that means hundreds of pet owners don't have anywhere they can take their pets to be checked out or helped medically in the case of an emergency.

We got our two month old puppy a nail trimming. We are beyond pleased! The staff are incredibly nice, and we were in and out in barely 10 minutes. We will definitely be returning. Thank you, MHC SPCA, for all that you do!

One of the nicest shelters I've visited. Really nice set-up, very clean, nice staff, animals seem well cared for and happy as they wait for their forever homes. Update: Both my Mom and I have adopted dogs from here and they are neutered/spayed, vaccinated, and treated for fleas/ticks and heartworms (as appropriate for age of animal) plus you get a certificate for a free vet visit!!

My fiancée and I adopted our beautiful dog Athena about 5 months ago and we went back today where my aunt also adopted her dog Maverick. The staff is absolutely amazing! The facilities are very well kept. Maria (I believe her name is) in the front office is heaven sent. She has helped us through both adoptions and has been nothing short of AMAZING. To anyone looking to adopt a new furry friend this should be your FIRST stop!

Last week, we adopted Pogo (now Quinn) from the SPCA. I filled out the online application last Monday and then on Tuesday, I received a call saying my application had been approved. To hold her, I needed to pay the $20 adoption fee. I was able to pay over the phone. The staff made the process super simple and quick. Then, that same day, I went to pick her up. And what a super special addition she has been to our family! Thanks to SPCA for all the work they do in our community!
