Today, I came to this vet with a very sweet kitten that my girlfriend saved off the street. When we walked in, we were not greeted by the reception and instead ignored until one receptionist finally looked up with an attitude to ask if we needed anything. Not a great start but I thought the building was very cool and I was still willing to meet the vet. When we went in the back, we waited about 10 minutes for the vet to come check on us. When she did, we let the kitten out of her crate to be checked on. She was pretty wary of the environment and all of the animals around, so it was clear she would need to be treated delicately, and if possible, given some calming spray (pretty common at most pet hospitals). The vet even mentioned that theres supposed to be a calming thing plugged in the outlet but for whatever reason it wasn’t on. Then, she tried handling the kitten but it was clear she was just making the little cat more agitated. The vet said “oh, maybe I should have washed my hands after working with that dog just now.” She then continued to handle the cat without washing her hands. The handling of the kitten did not seem professional in the least bit. It was a good thing I had a towel already in the crate, because our vet quickly grabbed that to assist in holding the kitten. Once all the easy checks were done, I realized I didn’t even know what she was checking for, she never said. It was just a very stressful experience up to this point so I forgot a lot of the questions I had going into the visit.After that, the doctor left the room for another 10 minutes, and when she reappeared, it was another staff member who just barged in without any care almost letting the kitten bolt out of the room. The staff member quickly slammed the kitten against the wall with her foot and very forcefully tossed her on the table and held her down. This put the kitten into a terrible mood, obviously, but the staff member with plenty of attitude towards us barked, “shes gonna be mad all day.” As if to say, good luck with that… thanks for absolutely traumatizing my kitten… so now that the kitten is completely out of its wits scared, the vet tries to give her two shots. I felt so bad for the poor kitten. The staff member was using brute force on my little 6lb kitten to hold her down to the table while the vet tried to give the shots, but the kitten was kicking the vets hand so it was very difficult. When they finally gave her the two shots, the staff member started yelling something that I could not understand. I thought she was saying “crepe” or “grape” and then she finally yelled “get the crate.” There has got to be a better way than the violent methods they used on my little kitten. The poor poor thing is going to hate vets forever because this incompetent staff cant handle animals with care, compassion, or even in an intelligent manner. We didnt even get the information that we went for because the whole experience was so chaotic and not well thought out or prepared that the questions were forgotten.Finally, when I left, I had to talk to the same receptionist and she did not acknowledge me at all. I wasn't sure if I was in the right place so I finally asked if I was supposed to be working this out with her and she said “well do you wanna pay?…” I cannot believe how rude the receptionist was. I of course said “yes, of course I want to pay, I just dont know if I’m supposed to be working that out with you,” because she never looked up or said anything to acknowledge me. Last thing is that she asked if I wanted to schedule the next visit and I’ve never said no so quick and firm. It was a 0/10 experience. Unfortunate, because its a great location and building.Edit: I went back for a spay and THEY CUT HER NIPPLES OFF! Please, if you care about your pet, do not bring them here.

I love this place I have taken my fur baby here since we got him as a puppy and every time something as went on with my baby they don't make you wait they say come on in and treat him right there I have nothing bad to say about anyone that works there ........they all are great people and has always helped me......

They worked me in for an urgent appointment on a Saturday for my dog Oliver. We have not been there before, so to have them help me out was awesome. They will be our new vet since we recently moved to the area. Super nice, affordable, and caring to my pitbull. Thanks so much!

We have gone to Madison Companion for a few years now. The staff is very nice and always helpful. The vets are top-notch, always there when you need them. You don't have to feel like you need a bank loan, to visit. Very reasonable.

Only have good things to say about them. They are patient while still being timely. They are caring and helpful. They have done phone visits for repeat allergy care with my elderly shi-tzu. They did emergency care for my mini dachshund in labor.

Charged me for services that they didn't even do. Two of the tests on the reciept were never done and he never called following up. I tried calling twice and the secretary told me to call me back. Charged me for an emergency but made me wait in the lobby for over 2 hours after he saw my dog only to tell me he didn't know, i was there for over 4 hours because he forgot about me. Almost $900 and no diagnosis or follow up. Ask about how much things cost or they will rip you off. You did charge me for services that were never used and I had to go to another vet for a simple diagnosis that costs around me $200. The other vet was more knowledgeable and was easily able to identify the problem in 20 minutes and for $600 less than this guy.

I had a very close friend lose all of his puppies here! The vet did not care about the puppies and only wanted money. My friend has successfully bred his dogs for I’m not sure how long I can even remember, and the first time he takes them here all of the puppies pass. It’s a true tragedy and vets like this should be ashamed of themselves. I hope they get sued and honestly this whole practice should be shut down because of things like this. If you want your animals to successfully be born, this is not the place to bring them.

If I could give this place a -10000 I would! Dr Pfaff is awful. Only after money. My 6 mon old kitten was hit. His bedside manner was absolutely atrocious! He did not handle her with care whatsoever, he was rough and unapproachable. When asked about internal bleeding he said and quote “I don’t think it’s a big issue” we had to put her down today, due to brain trauma he wouldn’t check for as he said he wouldn’t “really see anything yet”. But if she made it through the weekend he would do more, Her leg was broken and all he wanted to was charge us $700-$900 for an amputation, but not take care of her surface wounds that were causing bleeding and pain. He gave us 1 dose of medicine for pain and sent us home. Antibiotics we couldn’t even get down her. When I was asking questions all I got was and “it’s not a big problem” or “we won’t know till after we amputate” he didn’t want to even talk with us about anything. We ended up going all the way to Charlottesville to get help. I will never take my animals here again. This man is inhumane and only after money. He does not care about helping your animal, and to Blatantly lie over the phone when I called later ,when I was in the room with you is just the lowest of lows! Don’t make the mistakes we did in trusting him with the care of our animals. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FURBABIES HERE!

If I could put a 0 I would this vet took our dogs puppies extremely early !!! He is the one who scheduled the c-section and did an x-ray and then comes out and says oh 50/50 chance of the puppies living then proceeds to ask for a credit card ! Didn’t even care for the puppies at all ! I went to feed the puppies and they still had fluid bubbling from the nose ! One puppy ended up passing away not even 20 mins after leaving his office and within less than 48 hours another 2 have passed away they have been kept in a incubator so they are warm at what the temp should be and fed every hour ! This is the worst vet and when I called he didn’t seem to care and said oh nobody has thousands of dollars to waste on having 24 hour care for puppies !! I would spend every last dollar I have on the puppies ! This is a horrible vet ! Will be seeking an attorney to fight this case against this office !This vets reply back saying I’m a 3rd party slander when I am not I am a partial owner of these dogs . If you search these vets they are husband and wife you will not find that they are even lisenced vets as all that information is public ! I do not reccomend taking you animals here ! It’s sad he’s putting the blame on us when he is the one who was supposed to exam the dog to make sure her puppies were ready but never did so we also weren’t allowed in he brought our puppies and not one even made it 24 hours why because he decided not to check her on a ultrasound before just cutting her open for a c section!Also this guy never did the proper test to check if the puppies were even ready to be born , no X-ray done to make sure they were all functioning properly. No reverse progesterone test done on the mom before just cutting her open . The puppies were taken so early they had not a bit of hair on them !

My husband and I have been taking our dogs to this vet since they were puppies; about 5 years.Dr. Pfaff performed ACL surgery on our 4 year old bully. She recovered great. She’ll probably always have to be on anti inflammatory medicine so we are constantly at the vets to refill her prescription. She also has digestive issues and we always bring her to this animal hospital. Even when it’s an emergency and they don’t have any earlier slots, they’ll always try and see your animal in between appointments within reason. I know my dogs are well taken care of by all the staff. We’ve grown to really have an appreciation for all they do at Madison Animal Companion Hospital!

My great pryneess almost died in the hands of this animal hospital. Where do I start... My dog got neuter at this establishment, When I got home and took my dog out of the car I realized that his balls we're the size of a volleyball. I then proceeded to keep any eye on my animal as I know sometimes large dog have issues getting neutered, Since they have bigger balls. That was not the case here, something must've happen in the surgery room that led to my dog having internal issues. When I left the vet I was given minimal medicine at best. I later came back to the establishment to show the head vet what was happening. After the vet evaluated my animal I was told to leave because I was upset, I wasn't even told about the condition of my dog and the only people who know about the surgery are these vet so I was limited to there knowledge in this instance but was given nothing. To think this establishment prides themself on taking care of animals absolutly discust me. They're very clear with there motive which is money. I then proceeded to going to another vet and was given the proper medicine that I should've received from the beginning. I hope the owner of this establishment see this review and questions there business practices, because they're not in the best interest of your animals and I highly reccommend finding another vet.

I have a rescue dog that is afraid of anyone she doesn't know. Recently she has started barking at every little noise and even growled at a case of soda in my hallway. I explained my concerns. The Dr. explained that her eye site may be failing so she could be feeling unsure of her surroundings. They didn't dismiss my concerns and I really appreciated the patience and understanding.

The Dr was very thorough and took all necessary measures to assure my cat was taken care of accordingly. I needed an animal Dr the morning of and the mcah was able to pencil me in that afternoon. Best vet experience I've had with my cat. I highly recommend mcah.
