We Drove down from Richmond to have a piece of equipment fixed and it was totally worth the ride..Jim is very knowledgeable and the customer service he and his wife gave is to be awarded. While helping me he also helped others with questions and pointed them to the correct place in the store to find what they needed. This Business is a must to visit.

Been coming here for a few years. Jim is always very helpful. Bought a more expensive item last night and he took time to very carefully show me how to set everything up; very personable guy who knows his stuff.Have also taken lessons here in the past. Mike is a great teacher and one of the few I've had where the lesson doesn't just consist of the teacher throwing some knowledge at you and then noodling around on their guitar while you're trying to ask questions. Recommend highly.

It's a really laid back environment. The store owner doesn't dog you to buy nor will he run you off for being hands-on with a piece you're interested in. Jim winter won't try to sell you more then what you need or are looking for, & his expertise is invaluable. Recently went in to get a roland amp serviced - the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They took a lot of time and looked over the amp, taking out the screws and looking inside. At the end of the day, there wasn't any maintenance that could be done, but they didn't charge me to look at the amp even though it took them a lot of time. Very good experience - would definitely come back again.

I feel so lucky to have this business in my community! Over the years I have purchased 5 acoustic guitars from Winter Sound and each was a high quality instrument offered at a very fair price. I was able to play each of the guitars, many times, in a great setting, with no pressure, before making my purchase. Just a matter of time before I buy another guitar I guess!

Excellent selection! I am a guitar player and he always has a good stock of electric and acoustic. Plenty of amps too! There’s also Bass guitars and Drums too. New and used. Prices are the best. I have always shopped online for the best prices before I came here! New Jazzmaster under MSRP? New Boss Katana under MSRP too? Unheard of. Especially with the inflated prices everywhere else due to Covid. Check it out!!

This is a simply awesome music store. Great music stores are hard to find, between the presentation of their instruments and their used guitar inventory, it was an amazing experience. It helps their owners who run the shop are extremely friendly. I ended up buying a vintage guitar here, it is hard not to support a store like this.

It doesn't take much for this place to get busy. There's usually 1 or 2 people working. Mainly Jim. And he's gonna help you out and hook you up the best he can. He's done so for me on many occasions. Very knowledgeable guy. Love him. Love the shop!

This music store is awesome . . thought I had to go to the boutique shops like Wildwood Guitars, SoundPure or Rocket Music - (love SoundPure and Rocket Music) but Winter Sound is awesome . . Personal service, excellent selection of acoustic guitars, great knowledge and they won’t sell you something just to sell it to you -I have bought three guitars from them already!!! I had an old guitar that needed new tuning machines. The man who owns the place understood precisely what I wanted and helped me pick out a cheap but good set of tuning machines for me to install on my guitar. Then, at no charge, he let me use some of his tools in his shop for me to install the tuning machines. Very helpful, very considerate.

This shop has all the guitar knick-knacks that I could need in a pinch. Reasonable prices very very comparable to online - oftentimes better when factoring in shipping. Customer service is top notch and very knowledgeable. I'm 5 mins from another guitar specific shop in hampton but I'm happy to drive 30 mins here each time because it's that much better.

Jim Winter and his friendly gang of instrument techs have been around for as long as I can remember while also being my go-to experts since I started first playing guitar 15 years ago. They've fixed up more than one of mine when they got damaged or I just didn't have the time, and have plenty of stock of other instruments and amps and everything to choose from. Go and try one or two out while you're there! I believe that they also do lessons, although I've never personally paid for a session myself. They also used to own a small recording studio way back when, often catering to high school acts trying to get their first albums out, but I have no clue if that side business is still going.

Winter Sound is THE go-to place for musicians in the Hampton Roads area. I recently moved here from Florida and needed some work done to my Seagull S6 acoustic guitar, which had a cracked bridge. I asked a colleague of mine who is exceptionally knowledgeable about all things related to guitars and he said the absolute best place to go to is Winter Sound. He went on to explain to me that in his 15+ years of studying guitar at the highest levels, he has never come across anyone better than Mike at Winter Sound for all things related to guitars. My colleague informed me that he knows many highly talented musicians in the area, and basically all of them go to Winter Sound for all things related to their instruments.Mike at Winter Sound is an absolute professional. He informed me that I had basically two options to fix my guitar: reglue the bridge, or replace it all together. Though the bridge was extensively damaged, he was confident that he could fix it without replacing it and encouraged me to go this route instead of replacing the entire bridge, which would have cost quite a bit more. I took his advice and I simply cannot believe how amazing my guitar sounds now. I am not exaggerating when I say my guitar sounds considerably better now than it did the day I bought it, thanks to Mike of course. My colleague was not surprised. My colleague pointed out to me that Mike actually modified the bridge to make the guitar sound better, which is something Mike hadn't even told me. He probably did a few other things as well, which is testament to his reputation for the pursuit of perfection. I genuinely intend to go back and tip Mike for the excellent job he did on my guitar. He deserves far more money than what he charged for the job. Do yourself a favor and go to Winter Sound, even if you just want to check out their incredible collection of guitars. Be sure to ask for Mike. He's a super friendly guy!
