This is a great place to pick up your outdoor gear. The management and staff are so nice and helpful. If they don't have something in stock, they'll see if it is in their Winchester store. They co-host the Base Camp for hikers with free showers, laundry, and a place to safely store your pack while in town.

This is a dual review; Retailer and Manufacturer.Although I've been to Mountain Trails before, in Winchester, for footwear, this experience was at Front Royal store. I went in looking for a wine bottle opener, with any configuration. I bought this combo knife/wine bottle opener. The bottle opener and the knife is of very good quality. Wood handle, sharp blade right out the box. It has a nifty twist at the heel of the blade to lock/unlock the blade. Fits and feels good in the hand.Thank you to the gentleman working that recommended this item.

A very friendly outfitter, and great to have in Front Royal. Their footwear selection is surprisingly large and with the patient and knowledgeable help of Hanna and Jonathan I walked out with a great-fitting pair of trail shoes. I'm a past thru-hiker and this was a much needed addition to our AT town, thanks again!

This shop is conveniently located on Main Street. There is a nice variety of brands for outdoor gear, such as packs, shoes, clothing, hydration, headlamps, tents, trekking poles and much more. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and they even have a tool for measuring a hiker’s torso for an exact backpack fitment.

I love this place. Everyone that works here is always so helpful. How often do you walk into a store and they give you a demonstration? Well they do it here. Don't worry about buying something here and then trying to figure out later how to use it or put it together. They'll assist you start to finish. Support these wonderful little shops where customers are not only acknowledged but fully taken care of!

They have an incredible selection and pack more in to their small space than many larger stores I've been to. Plenty of resupply and the staff was very personable and a big help. They have an arrangement with the brewery a few doors down offering free services for hikers (showers, laundry).

Disappointed. I bought a pair of sandals (on sale). When I tried to wear them the top strap was rubbing and hurt. I immediately put them back in the box to return. BUT per the salesperson they have a strict NO return policy on sale items. When I bought them this was not explained to me and I didn’t see the small sign near the register. Disappointed as I shop there when looking for good walking shoes and clothes. But they lost a customer. *Buyer beware.

I’ve been to great outdoor shops. I’ve seen shops that really try to get a variety of useful gear and brands. I’ve seen stores with helpful staff. This place, though. This place goes above and beyond. I came in off the AT with bad shoes and a broken tent pole. Charles handled the situation like he was family. It felt like asking my dad for advice and him not wanting to just sell me something but looking after me. He contacted Nemo about my tent poles and got the ball rolling on that when he saw he didn’t have the replacement parts on hand. He let me try on…basically every shoe in the shop until finding the perfect fit. I wish I could pick up this shop and carry it with me to have in hand next time I need something. Clothes, gear, accessories, maps. Just a great shop.

They have an excellent selection, fair prices (as compared to big box/online, b/c let’s face it…good gear isn’t cheap, but this place stays competitive on pricing) and the people who work there are super nice and exceedingly helpful! Awesome little local store. The guy watching the counter was very attentive to all the customers that came in, he mentioned all the discounts that might have been overlooked and helped everyone with his knowledge of the store and experience with the outdoors. I’m a local, but I could hear him giving really good guidance and recommendations to all the customers that were visiting the area. Excellent experience that will remind you the value of a local store.I had been shopping for weeks online prepping for a huge road trip. The day before departure I thought of 5 more little things I had forgotten to order, this little shop came through with several choices for all 5 things! I even found a few additional things I hadn’t planned on getting but will find extremely useful while on the road.I will be back!

Love this place. All the staff are knowledgeable and super friendly. Kathy and Charlie are awesome, and the pups that come in are wonderful.I love that they help support Basecamp (a shower, laundry and rest facility) for hikers of the Appalacian trail and elsewhere. You can get great camp, hike, climbing, anything outdoors then head next door to Down Home Comfort Bakery and if really thirsty, go next door to Front Royal Brewery! All those fantastic businesses help support Basecamp!Check them out next time you're in FR! 😊💗

Great outfitters off the Appalachian Trail. Very friendly staff. Very clean and organized. Had a lot of different options for equipment. Picked up a few things for resupply.

Excellent place. My daughter hikes in Seattle Washington were she lives. Not only can I send her melting pot pizza, but a care package from mountain trails💝 love the barefoot dude. He's always made back and helpful.

Couldnt care less if we were there or not. Super not helpful. Went in needing shoes to get back on trail, had to go to the check out desk and ask for help even though no one else was in the store, girl couldn't be bothered to look for sizes, guess I will be off trail a few days waiting on an amazon shipment.
