Mice excrement and droppings were on the brand of canned dog food I went in to purchase. I saw a mouse scurry behind food. Droppings were on the floor, inside boxes, on the lids of canned food, and inside water and food dishes. Ben, the manager, and Kate, the dog trainer, were very helpful though understandably embarrassed. Kate and Ben brought what they said was industrial-grade cleaning solution and began spraying and wiping the cans. It was unsettling to realize that the employees were unsurprised. They said mice have been an issue for years, that corporate is aware, and that exterminators treat sporadically but don't always return. This store owner is lucky to have Kate and Ben, who insisted that things are getting better even as other employees lamented the ongoing conditions with comments like, "The mice droppings used to be only in the cat section. Now they're in the dog food?" I'll never return to this location.

great petco! i usually go to burke one but grew frustrated as all of there feeder insects were getting sold dead. this fairfax location is awesome! you can visibly see that there all wiggling and alive! also very large store and clean. big signs to point you in the right direction. will be getting my insects from here.

Very pleased with my experience. The employee was so courteous, friendly and helpful. I had gone in to do my first ever Happy Return (which got me a coupon, was very easy, and I would do again) and I found a great selection of items for my menagerie of pets.

I'm tempted to give lower scores because I'm pretty disgusted the rats (and mice) are sold primarily as feeders, not pets. I've been in Petsmart where someone even joked about getting a rat as a feeder and the sales person shut the sale down, yet you've got salespeople who nonchalantly talk about knowing their animals are going to be used as feed. I get that snakes need to eat too, but I much prefer how in the UK it is illegal to feed live invertebrates. One salesperson was clearly upset by it and hated that they are sold as feeders more than pets. She tried to influence me into getting (at least) one of the rats as a pet. I can't afford more right now. I spent $5000 on my rats in the past year alone. Knowing those beautiful babies are going to end up as snake food is horrible. One of the girls that I had been complaining about being alone was bought as food right in front of me.Petco should be ashamed of itself. You've even got "humane society certified" or some such. Laughable. I would rescue all of the babies if I could.Get some people with more empathy too, and stop selling live feeders. The guy I spoke with was very cavalier about telling me about how the rats and mice are mostly sold as feeders, that they don't even keep the mice up front because of it.Make people who won't or can't switch their snakes over to frozen/ thawed go searching for fly by night stores not supposedly respectable establishments.

We bought our female betta fish Artemis 2 floating moss balls here. The staff were prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. We would come again. The animals and fish looked healthy. I liked the variety of bettas as well.

I had to return a dog toy that broke very soon after I bought it. The return was easy and quick and there were lots of replacement toys to choose from. Good selection and nice clearance prices too.

Kate, and Brandon helped my and my partner in AQ and getting a piebald Ball python. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Ben at checkout was very kind. Great people.

My Mini Goldendoodle was completely shaved even though I was told that would absolutely not be necessary. The groomer also did not clean his ears properly. He had a ton of wax and hair in them when I picked him up. Also, even though the groomer fully shaved my dog, she was so-called “scared” to shave his private area. My dogs behavior has also completely changed since him being shaved. He has lost all his personality and spunk. It’s very upsetting because my dog doesn’t want to eat and has been sleeping in the bathroom by himself. I called Petco 3 times and left a message to get more information on what happened. No answer. I ended up fixing up my dogs private area myself and taking him to vet to do something about his behavioral change. I will never bring my dog here again.

I never write reviews…I went in today to pick out a fish with my kids. I am so glad I came here…we met Brandon, who was AMAZING. He answered all our questions, gave us some great guidance and helped us get started with everything we needed without being pushy or salesy. Most of all, he is passionate and gave us such great service. I was honestly so surprised at the level of customer service from a chain store. Thank you, Brandon!!

Love walkng around with my wife and kids looking at all the cute animals we'd love to bring home. Almost brought this Syrian hamster home to add to our collection, but with one pregnant at home...maybe next time. Loved the markings on the Guinea pig. The ferret was sound asleep and cute as can be. Always a good selection of supplies and the membership guves crazy discounts compared to non-member prices. Will stop by again.

The grooming appt was fine and they did a great job. My biggest complaint is that the store hours are 9 am and the store employee that opened the store was late with no apologies or explanation. No customer service when checking out for items after leaving pet for grooming appt. This has led us to not return to this location despite our pet going there several times. Not sure if these 2 individuals lacking customer service were employees or managers. Disappointed.

I'm literally sitting in the parking lot writing this review. I came in with my children to buy fish for our fish tank and a snake plus all the supplies for a snake. Not once were we greeted or assisted by any of the staff the entire 30 min plus as we waited patiently for assistance. I'll take my business elsewhere. Something Management may need to focus on.

The Fairfax location once in a while has an interesting selection of fish that you normally don't see at most pet stores. The tanks are very clean and the aquatic plant selection is quite healthy.The store also supports my favorite cat rescue organization. The kittens and cats are well taken care of and most are friendly. We've even adopted a kitten from there. This is one of my favorite local store to get aquarium supplies.Petco has a vast selection of cast food, treats and supplies. My cats love the Tiki Cat brand of wet food and treats.

Well-stocked but somewhat overpriced. Most items, even bulky ones, are cheaper on Amazon. Big issue, though, is the grooming service. We brought our dog for a scheduled appointment, and he ended up crated for hours while they attended to other customers. This dog is rarely crated, and never in one other than his own. He was anxious for a couple of days after.

I wanna make complaints to whoever that it at the vetco this after noon 14:00-14:40. She is literally like we owe her something. We brought our three kittens to take vaccine. But we don’t know we should bring separate carriers. If so we still won’t cuz they are too afraid in separate ones. Because they are only two month old. After we arrived, she firstly refused to take these three cats and said they should be in separate carriers and suggested us to buy the carrier sold by Petco. And finally we said ok we can, but she still refused to take our three kittens and said we ran out of time. But we made three appointments and there is no one after us. I don’t know why Petco has staff like this. I know vetco is not the main business but that person sucks. I’ll never buy animal supplies from Petco again. Learn from chewy please!

Got a dog grooming. no one called me, i showed up 4 hours later and was told to wait till I received a call, waited two more hours still never received a call. I call and ask if they are ready they then tell me they were ready 2 hours ago.

Honestly, I feel like this just needs to be said - the grooming staff here is incredibly lazy and they truly just don't want to work. This is the second time we have gone to get our girls nails trimmed and the staff just decided to leave early out of nowhere. When people are taking time out of their busy days to take their dogs to get a nail trim in the middle of the afternoon, we expect you to be working during your posted hours of operation.Needless to say, I will be having a word with the manager, and I will never be coming back here again.

CALL AHEADCall ahead to see if they’re open.I drove her right after work to pick up a mobile order I had placed. Google says they close at 8pm. Arrived at 7pm only to be met with a closed store.I understand that they are short staffed but an email with the currently hours would have been nice instead of driving an hour out.(They’re the only Petco with the item I need in stock)

Eh, I really don't like being pressured to buy products and two employees up front just would not stop convincing me after I said multiple times I'm not interested in a product. Made me feel like a careless pet owner for not buying it (they insinuated that). Besides that, it's fine. I changed my rating from a 5 star because it really ended up ruining my experience. I understand that they care, but don't pressure your customers so much.

It seems the store is reworking some of its sections, so I had a small issue finding the product I was looking for. The employees were friendly and courteous.
