Wow! Beautiful store, amazing selection of yarn AND they do cross stitch/needlepoint, too! I was visiting my sister (I'm in Michigan), and we HAD to go because I met one of the clerks, Molly Ann, on the plane on my flight to Charlottesville. She was absolutely delightful and had glowing things to say about her co-workers and the shop. Still, my sister and I were blown away by the diversity of yarns, needles, packaged projects (great for gifting), cards, notions, you name it. All in a small but well-designed space with super friendly and helpful staff. Susan, the owner, was incredibly helpful and fun to talk to. Within minutes I knew that Magpie Knits was a place I would come back to every time I'm in town. In fact... we went back the next day :)

Oh. my. word! This place is a-maaa-zing!!!! It's like Disneyland, candy store, Christmas morning and your birthday all at once. SO many samples that are incredibly helpful when looking for inspiration or just trying to learn about a yarn. And the staff is off-the-charts helpful, friendly, and encouraging. If you're not a knitter, there's still tons for you. I appreciated the needlepoint canvases and supplies and all of the fun gift ideas like candles and bags. And the baby items - oh my! You cannot go wrong stopping visiting Magpie Knits!

Lovely yarn store with very helpful & knowledgeable staff, and great selection! The yarn is high end and on the pricier side, but that is due to a large selection of independent dyers and rare yarns, not the shop marking prices up.

absolutely stunning yarn store!!! i was visiting charlottesville and my friend took me to this store and it’s got to be one of the best yarn stores i’ve ever been in! it’s got an excellent selection in colors, weight, fibers, you name it! it also stocks lots of resources in the way of knitting/crochet kits, books, and tools. i found the prices reasonable for the quality and the staff was beyond kind! it made me wish i had a store like it near where i live :’) but for now i’ll always sing the praise of magpie knits!!! please pay a visit to the really lovely people there :)

Colorful. Provocative. Friendly. If you cannot get excited about knitting or crocheting in this store, then you have not one creative bone in your body! It’s impossible to walk through this sumptuous store without touching yarn and imagining all the things it can become. Look for the display of knitted hats with bunny ears!

I've loved this shop every time I've visited! Staff are nothing but sweet and there's very often a sleepy dog hanging out. Yarn selection is very nice with more high end options as well as a clearance section. There's always a table in the back with folks crocheting/knitting and I always want to stay a while and join! Great atmosphere :-)

High-end yarn in a high-end shop with lots of things at expected high-end prices, but the yarn prices are right on par with same brands elsewhere. VERY pretty shop, completely friendly owner, plus Wade the dog made for a very pleasant experience. And, though I did not have time to take them up on their offer, I would have LOVED to let them wind my two hanks for me at no charge! Beautiful place with beautiful yarn.

Wonderful LYS, they have everything from cobweb weight to extra chunky wool and the sale section is really great. They’ll spin the cakes for you while you’re out in the mall and you can come back and pick them up later.

This is a gorgeous shop with ample selections of yarn from the uber soft to delicious color combinations. The shop is painted with soothing colors, has hard wood floors, and soft lighting in appropriately placed areas so you don't get glare but can still check out colors with ease. Nice prices to meet your needs too. The owner, Beth, was super nice as she helped me find some locally sourced yarn that I wanted to commemorate for our trip to the area. Beth also gave me some very helpful pointers and websites to view to enhance my skills. I think anyone who appreciates yarn crafts should make this a must stop. I personally will be back again.

Mostly yarn and knitting store with a bit of needlepoint. Nice selection of yarns, including some basics but also some unusual finds. Great collection of sample sweaters -- owner was kind enough to ask if I would like to try one on! Also a good collection of printed patterns that are not "the usual thing". This small store is very well organized, clean and bright, and fun to visit.

I found Magpie Knits online because I was looking for a new hobby. I took the Beginner Knitting class one Sunday afternoon and Beth was such a delightful teacher! She’s patient and explains technical things in an easily understood way. I also appreciate that she really does want to help new knitters “stand on their own two feet,” and teaches how to read patterns and how to fix mistakes. I’ve been dropping in to the Wednesday open knit evenings, and they really are a highlight of my week. The shop is always so cozy and inviting. Highly recommend to new knitters (and experienced knitters) in Charlottesville!

Cute shop, lots of variety for yarn, but nobody said anything to me or even really acknowledged me until I was ready to check out, except for the young woman there with a trunk show for her beautiful jewelry. I was underwhelmed, but will probably come back next time I'm in the area.

This is a great little shop on the historic Downtown mall. The owner is the greatest. She's always friendly, helpful, and has the patience of Job. She has helped me "tink" many a project without getting frustrated with me or being rude (which unfortunately I have encountered at other places, and not in Charlottesville, I should add). I highly recommend stopping in and taking a peek. The different array of yarns and colors is enough to bring a happy, fuzzy feeling to your psyche. Even if you don't knit or crochet, stop by anyway. You just might get "hooked!"
