It's disheartening to see North Star Restaurant receive one-star ratings when it clearly embodies authenticity and a warm, laid-back mountain vibe. The staff's genuine nature contributes to the welcoming atmosphere, making it a local gem. As someone with extensive experience managing a chain of breakfast restaurants, I consider myself quite discerning about my egg and cheese sandwiches. I can confidently say that North Star's offering is exceptionally delicious—perhaps it's the magic of mountain ingredients! If you're in the Blue Ridge area, this restaurant is an unmissable experience.

Small old time country restaurant with great food at great prices. It's very clean. This is a local favorite. A family of 6 has a standing 3:00 pm reserve. Our waitress was nice. Their tater sauce and cocktail sauce are made in house and were very good. We had the seafood platter which we enjoyed very much. We usually never order fried foods but glad we made the exception.Kid-friendliness: There are cute signs on the walls to make you smile.

This is a keeper where locals enjoy great food at reasonable prices. Pancakes were awesome. Bacon crispy, not burnt, eggs over easy were perfect. To help out, several local patrons bused tables, refill coffee and water glasses, I suspect it's a regular thing...we have more trips up and down I-81, and will stop in again. It was a totally enjoyed meal.

Bring some cash as they don't accept credit cards. The food is delicious. The gravy is homemade. Great hospitality.Vegetarian options: Vegetables are available.

Cash only! This is not a fancy place but it's a half mile off the interstate and it's open super early. If you're looking for something super "local," then this is the spot. It'sFriendly service this morning with a limited menu. Omelets, eggs, biscuits. No avocado toast or oat milk latte on this menu. Probably not even decaf coffee.I chose the ham and cheese omelet with coffee. I could hear the cook start on it immediately. Definitely fresh and a good portion. Simple and tasty.Note that this is a cash only establishment but they have an ATM.Parking: Dedicated parking lot.

We've been driving I 81 for five years now and sorry we didn't find this hidden gem sooner. What an awesome local place! We stopped for lunch and they were busy, but we did get a table immediately and service was great: friendly and attentive. The food was really good, hubby had the fried chicken livers and said there wasn't a tough one in the bunch, and the serving was a plate full! lol. I had the best hamburger I've had in quite awhile. But the topper was the blackberry cobbler with ice cream, of course! Oh my, it was awesome! Prices are very reasonable. FYI it is cash only, however there is an ATM. A return visit will definitely be in order next trip through the area.👍👍👍

small and cozy place we found in our trip to Louisiana, for a moment I thought it was my grandma's dining room, the costumers knew each other and most of them greeted us, made us feel like we were in our neighborhood's restaurant for a moment. the food was very quick, nice portions, the food was tasty, simple but nice, that's what we wanted, not shenanigans, almost forgot! the Mac and cheese was fenomenal definitely not a restaurant receip, I think it's a place to comeback.

We moved here a year ago USE to love this place. We went today..go in it's busy. That's ok. So after a little time we ordered..several people come on order food get there food..We waited A HOUR AND 15 MIN and still never got our food. A little after us A COUPLE AND THERE KID THAT CAME IN AFTER US GETS THERE FOOD..ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO CAME IN AFTER US. WE ARE LOCALS ALSO..THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE. I know we are not in the "in crowd" but Jesus christ...I watched all these other people come in after us and it was clear yall know those customers..they all ordered and got there food quick..after we had been there. We will never ever come back or bring people who come visit us

We were driving home from Tennessee to West Virginia. My wife was getting impatient and needed food. Most of the restaurants were fast food or chain. Barbara was our waitress and took care of us. Everybody inside was very friendly and beware not to order a double cheeseburger because they're huge. I had liver and onions and my wife had beefsteak and gravy. The food was amazing real American cooking. Very inexpensive. While it may not look like much this restaurant hit the mark. We will be back again for sure

We were looking for a locally owned diner and yesterday we found this place on Google maps. WOW! WHAT A FABULOUS PLACE TO EAT. Just off route 81 in Virginia. The price of their food was unbelievably inexpensive.Food was sooooo good..I ordered fried chicken livers and my husband ordered the country style steak. We shared a blackberry cobbler for dessert. Everything was so delicious.The server was wonderful, attentive and sweet.I cannot say enough about how happy we were. Walked our full, with a doggie bag and purchased more of their incredibly delicious corn bread. Real southern cooking!

Great no fuss Diner, cash only, and won't take your self lovin attitude.If you have any qualms about a country Diner stay away, if you have good manners and enjoy the quirks of a country Diner would highly recommend.Great serving sizes, eggs done perfectly, fantastic huge western omelet, great biscuits and gravy, love the grits and the coffee as well.

I walked in and you could hear the sounds of both happy customers and happy employees. Laughing and enjoying each other's company, the atmosphere and the food. The lady up front had a really cool Grateful Dead shirt on. She took fantastic care of me, and brought me my food right away. I went looking for vegan or vegetarian food. I got four veggies, plus potato wedges. Plus the cornbread. Everything was down right delicious and nothing tasted like it came from a can. Nothing was too salty. I'm up and down I-81 and this was not much of a detour at all. Well worth it. The four huge portions of veggies with a piece of cornbread plus the potato wedges was $11.50 out the door. I will be back.

Nice place, good food, and great prices. You can't beat the burger. Its big, tasty, and filling. I was sad to hear that Debbie, the owner, sold it and new owners will be taking over in May (2021). I hope the prices, food, and atmosphere stay the same.
