My husband gave me one of Penny's puppies as a 50th birthday present knowing GSD's have always been my favorite. I couldn't have been happier with our boy, Hans. I received a cancer diagnosis when Hans was just 5 months old. He laid in bed with me for 6 months while going through treatments and never complained. Hans would greet visitors in the driveway and walk them to the door. He was super protective of me and my children, and everyone loved him. Hans passed away during COVID, but he was the absolute best dog anyone could have asked for. Penny and Will do a phenomenal job holistically raising their animals.

Everyone in Vermont that comes across Sig always ask if he’s a Stronghold Shepherd. I am very proud to say he is. We can not thank Penny enough for selecting the best shepherd for our family. Sig is not only breathtaking, but his temperament and personality fits perfectly into our family. He is a great companion and protector of my two children. Not only has Penny been great in supporting us with Sig’s nutrition, but introduced me to supplements that rejuvenated my 15 year old lab. Her knowledge is incredible. I highly recommend Stronghold.

I’m interested in getting a working line German Shepherd and this is the best place I can find. The owner clearly cares for her dogs deeply and has a ton of knowledge on this breed. I’m extremely impressed with them for their treatment of their dogs and am looking forward to getting a puppy of my own from this great breeder!

Decided to go with a different breeder been weeks and no deposit back. Got a great puppy at a different breeder and I’m happy I did. Update recovered my deposit thru small claims court. Maybe she will think twice next time she thinks a deposit is non refundable

Tonight marks a week of our beautiful Avi failing to respond to treatment for her Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, an inherited disease. She’s lost over 15 pounds in the last month and a half, we are terrified that she will not survive this. At three years old, she’s had four operations on her front legs as a result of an inherited joint problem that took a year to fully treat. And understand that we live near New York City. We are taking her to a veterinary specialist in addition to her regular vet.I bought Avi from Penny in 2019 and learned of her joint problems within 8 months; Penny was dismissive of my concerns. Like, actually said that she didn’t believe Avi had the problem although I sent her copies of the medical records.When we brought her for her first check up two days after pick-up, our vet said in all his years he’d never seen a dog so full of worms.I want to be clear, this dog is a part of our family, and is the best friend of our other GSD (from another breeder) and her illnesses affect us all deeply.And each issue she’s had (and there were several others that were treatable) means sleepless nights and worry. On top of the thousands of dollars we’ve spent.I am so sorry that on a whim I went to this farm, and didn’t do more research on the breeder. Save yourself the heartache and pain and just go somewhere else, otherwise you’ll be holding your beautiful three-year old like I am, wondering how much time she has left.

I still am in awe of our puppies - Kilo and Cash. They by far as the smartest dogs I have ever had!!!It was a pleasure to work with Penny and Will. ​We drove for about 3 hours and when Bill and I arrived, we were meet with a few dogs that were polite and respectful. We spent about 2 or so hours on our first visit at Stronghold and never felt rushed and had our questions answered.The care given the dogs and puppies at Stronghold is above reproach and our next German Shepherd would be a Stronghold pup!! (although we know that might be quite awhile with the 2 we have).Thank you Penny and Will...

I had two shepherds at home that were getting on in age and thought it would be nice to add a new puppy to our family. I first saw Zoe and Bruno when they were 6 weeks old and fell in love with them. I brought them both home when they were 8 weeks old. They are great protectors and wonderful family dogs; and they are the smartest shepherds I have ever owned! Anytime I have a question about diet, training or behavior; Penny is always so supportive and willing to help.

We love our GSD. My wife and I did a lot of research on breeders before deciding to go with Stronghold German Shepherds, and we could not be happier. Our dog is great. People stop us and are constantly asking us where we bought him, how beautiful he is,how good he is, etc. Penny and Will are great people and great breeders. I would recommend them to family and friends.

Been 15 weeks since we picked up our dog. We have yet to receive AKC papers, bill of health or even a pedigree. We paid for a purebred animal with papers, she promises there was a problem with the parents paperwork but 15 weeks seems like a resemble time frame to give us something. I will change my review if I receive our paperwork our puppy is very great tho. Gorgeous and well mannered

We met Penny and Will almost 6 years ago when we got Kuno, a Lex pup. Kuno has been a absolutely wonderful dog. We always say that he is a wonderful ambassador of the breed. We have kept in constant touch with Penny and Will, visiting often and letting the pups play together. We have since got another GSD from Stronghold and are just as pleased with Anya. We have met many of the Stronghold pups and they are all wonderful GSD's. They are well adjusted, strong, smart and loyal companions. I would not look anywhere else for a GSD. Penny is always available for help and advice when raising the dog

This is the greatest place to buy a wonderful GSD. Penny and Will are awesome people to deal with. We drove 8 hours to get our puppy and it was well worth the trip. He really is the best dog I have ever been around. I would give these guys 10 stars if I could. If you are looking for a GSD this is the place. I HIGHLY recommend Stronghold German Shepherds to my friends and family.

Penny was recommended to us a little over 2 years ago when we were looking for a companion for our dog,Baron. That is when we met Keira (then Jeanna). Her mom is Sammie, a DK puppy, and her dad is Reiko, a police canine. Penny tells us that Keira was born on the 4th of July and she is truly a firecracker. She is small in stature, but has the biggest heart and the keenest mind we have ever seen. After meeting Baron, Penny knew that Keira would be the perfect fit--this lady knows her dogs! Based on their website you can get the feeling that they care strongly about their animals and who is looking to have them. A very through discription as to what they provide the animals and how they provide the new owners with as much information as possible on the new puppy and it's temperament as well as their needs as it pertains to care. Hey Penny and Will!(From July 2014)This weekend we traveled down to Massachusetts for my nephew's first birthday. Niko was again fantastic!!! His recall is almost a guarantee. My sister and family live on 7 acres in the woods and have deer, bear, moose and coyotes about so all kinds of smells and he just stays around. If he gets on a scent, I can call him off it with one either word or sound. And most importantly he LOVE kids.In the house, several times Niko would lay beside or in front of my nephew and just look with curiosity. As if understanding "this is a little one and I must lick him wildly". My nephew loved it. He was very gentle, except when he would put a paw on him. It's a big paw and there's no being dainty about it. :) He just wanted to play.Then while outside, my nephew was playing in Niko's water bucket on the lawn and Niko just kept his eyes on him with ears up as if on duty. Niko and my nephew played a game. Niko would drink, my nephew would put rocks in the bowl. After every drink my nephew would put more rocks in the bowl.. Very cute!!It was funny because as the party wore on, there were 20 people there, I had parked my Yukon in the shade with the back gate open to make more room for parking. When Niko had enough of the party and craziness Niko just jumped in the back of the car and took a nap.. didn't run off as they could easily taken off. He just hung out in the back of the open SUV..He was very friendly with all the guests and we received many compliments on his beauty and temperament..He was meant to be with us. :)Thank you Penny and Will!!
