I've been riding a clunky old mountain bike since the 1990's and my daughter finally convinced me to take a look at gravel bikes. I went to OGE and talked to the bike experts. They asked me questions about how I expected to use the bike and then gave me a few of recommendations to test ride. When I found the one I liked, they made sure all the adjustments were perfect and that I had all the right accessories. The whole process was very easy and stress-free. I couldn't be happier with my purchases and the decision to buy local!

I visited OGE before the holidays and about 6 months after having had foot surgery. I wanted to see if my foot would fit into ski boots. I had no idea if I would ever ski again. I was waited on by Oliver who took the time to listen to my unique story, assess my foot size and shape and helped me try on 2 pairs, one of which I ended up buying! I walked-in not knowing if I'd ever ski again; I walked out with a pair of ski boots that felt like "a firm handshake" as he taught me. Oliver knew what was in stock, and what would work for me. He recommended a pair of inserts which we the same ones my physical therapist had recommended! He never rushed me. He knew his stuff. The other customers were friendly, we were all commiserating together with our unique situations with the staff. It was great buying experience. The boots did me well in Montana this winter and I'd Oliver to know.

Rick at the bike desk is the best bike salesman I've ever talked to. His love of biking and his humble passion for getting you into a bike that fits you and that you love shines through in every conversation. He is the guy you want to buy your next bike from. Knowledgeable, friendly and respectful of your personal needs. šŸ‘ Never pushy. 10/10 customer service.

I used to love it here, but yesterday made it clear I don’t want this store to have my business. I went to get a decent amount of items for my snowboard, and I went to check out, and I was using my dad’s card. I asked how to bypass the pin, and the cashier explained that I have to insert not tap to bypass, and it’s more complicated to bypass, so I should just enter the pin. I said, I don’t know the pin because it’s my dad’s card. (He did give me the pin, I just didn’t feel like opening my phone to look for it.) then I continued checking out, as some employee was like ā€œdid you say that’s not your cardā€ and I said yes it’s my dads card. He was being so rude, it really took me by surprise. He then said he can’t verify if it’s my dads, which kinda felt like he was saying I stole someone card… extremely disrespectful. So I showed him my debit card, which looks exactly the same and that we have the same last name on both cards. He then proceeded to talk to me like a child, saying it’s extremely illegal (it’s not) and that I cannot use that card to buy anything in any store, not just this one. I actually know a lot about this legally because I study law, but wasn’t going to explain it. I didn’t actually care about that part. It’s that he denied my business because I was going to use my dads card. I have more than enough on my own debit card, or I could’ve even used my credit card to pay, but at that point, I didn’t want to put any money towards OGE. So I left, went to a different outdoor store, and gave them my business. It wasn’t about the money. If he had kindly said ā€œ oh hey it’s actually store policy I’m so sorry I know it’s a dragā€ I wouldn’t have cared, and I would’ve just paid with my card. But he got very standoffish and condescending. Extremely rude. Kinda sucks but I won’t be coming back here for and if my maintenance or snow/climbing gear.

5 stars specifically to the service department working on totality day.I knew totality was a big day for a ton of businesses, and traffic was impossible, so I tried to take my bike out. Last minute issues of course cropped up, and I was anxious that no one would be able to help me.Cue Aiden and his peer in the service department (whose name I didn't catch, unfortunately) who came to the rescue! They noticed my face of concern as I walked in and quickly took care of all my worries, made sure my bike was ready to go and comfortable to use, and even gave me some great advice going forward.During a weekend where it felt like the city was bursting at the seams and residents were kind of lost or forgotten amongst the tourists, these two helped me remember why it's great to live here - connecting with the people, and getting outside for adventures. Thanks OGE and the bike department, you helped me have a once in a lifetime experience today!

So disappointing to see their consignment inventory has drastically decreased. The sole reason I frequently shopped here was to find some good deals on gently used gear. The children's section has dwindeled dramatically. Year after year we have shopped here and loved being able to dig through their bargain basement for some quality used items at a great price. Clothing that would keep our family warm and dry during our long winters, which we would EXCHANGE as the kids grew out of them. It seems OGE has forgotten their roots and chosen to cut back on the lower profit margin side of their business that the local folk once loved dearly.

Fantastic customer service! Had an issue with the shipment but they took care of everything. I usually shop online at Evo or Backcountry but not anymore. Highly recommend Outdoor Gear Exchange for all your outdoor gear and great customer support.

I love this place. The consignment section, though smaller than in its previous glory days, is smaller but the value remains the same—treasures are only easier to find now that it’s condensed!Outdoor gear exchange forever!!

Truly a bummer to see where the business is heading. Consignment and exchange are some of the reasons why I loved this business. They downsized the consignment to the back of the store rather than the downstairs. They tightened up what brands they sell and buy. One of my favorite coats I got there years ago was off brand. Just seems like OGE has chosen to prioritize the E less in their name now a days.

I bought my AT boots at OGE. They needed some custom boot work to get the fit just right. Josh was knowledgable, patient, and effective at working with me to get just the right fit. His customer service has made me a loyal OGE customer.

I'm giving them 2 stars because they have a good selection. I'm knocking them down 3 stars because I went in to buy a new pair of AT skis and after 1.25 hrs of waiting I still was not being helped so left. I'll take my business to Stowe where they actually have staff to help customers.

lifetime fan of OGE over here. From the incredible selection to things you didnt even know you needed, all the gear pro's on staff and eager to help, to a legendary consignment section, and the initiatives they support, this place has it all. Highly recommended for any/all outdoor needs.

It breaks my heart to leave a poor review for a store that I've loved over the years, but three recent terrible interactions have confirmed that the recent changes have made the OGE experience worse to the point where I can't trust or support the store like I once did. I hope this message gets to the right folks that can correct some of the devolution I've experienced recently as I don't want this to just be a litany of complaints. First: I went to check on a jacket I had on consignment that I was surprised wasn't sold. I looked at all the racks and couldn't find it anywhere so I asked an employee if it had perhaps been sold. They told me they didn't have the time or staff to fill a missing item report but that I could keep checking back. The next few times I looked again for the jacket and was concerned because I couldn't find it and wasn't paid out. Other employees mentioned they thought a co-worker bought it; when I mentioned that to the consignment manager he said "you know what they say about assumptions.." implying I was an a**? Finally I asked again about the jacket and the lead of the department grew frustrated and suggested maybe this wasn't the right place for me to bring my items if I wanted them back and agreed to just pay me out. I was simply concerned it was stolen, but it seemed the staff was stretched thin and stressed as it was and the whole experience made me feel awful. Second: I requested a check for my consignment balance on 12/18 and was told it usually takes a week or two and to hold tight. After three weeks I asked again and was told they emailed accountings again. After 4 weeks I called and was told they emailed again and I got the check in the mail 5+ weeks later. Third: I bought a pair of pants in the store and when I got home I realized they still had the security tag attached. So I drove back the 20 minutes and paid for parking again the next day and brought the tag with me, stood in line for the register, and the employee thanked me but didn't offer anything in the way of an apology or something to make up for wasted time. Mistakes happen, I know, but this seems to be keeping with the trend. I apologize for the diatribe but I hope this in some small way helps OGE reverse course and return to the wonderful experience it has been in Burlington for so long.

Brought my bike in for it's yearly tune up and OGE made her feel all sparkly and brand new. Thank you to the bike department!

First time I visited this store in 2020, my mind was blown at the size of the place, the selection, and the overwhelmingly friendly staff. Not sure what happened. Walked in 2/5 with a reusable bag that was already partially full from the days shopping and keeping my hat and scarf in it, and the guy about 5'8"-10" with the short dirty blonde hair and beard, wearing the brown pants basically followed me around the whole store. Asked me if I needed help finding anything very awkwardly and let him know I was just browsing for now and he hovered near me for nearly 30min. Maybe longer. I know you're just doing your job my guy, but if you have suspicions of theft, you could have started a friendly conversation with me. An easy, "hey, where you from?" What kind of gear do you use? What kind of outdoors activities do you do?" You need to improve your customer service skills beyond stalking customers my guy. Was looking for a new day pack and comparing and researching on my phone while waiting for my partner to try on some pants and I decided not to make a purchase. Store selection: 5/5 (considering season and foot traffic) atmosphere: 5/5, the guy about 5'8"-10" with the short dirty blonde hair and beard, wearing the brown pants 2/5. Didn't give you a 1 because you have a beard.

I tried to order ski bindings from this store because they offered next day shipping. I paid over $60 for the next day shipping because I had another set of bindings I was trying to mount get lost in the mail and needed replacements as soon as possible. Instead of shipping my order with UPS Next Day Air as promised, their team decided to ship using regular UPS ground, resulting in me paying for bindings and upgraded shipping for nothing because I wont be able to use my skis on my trip now. If youre not going to actually provide next day shipping or upgraded delivery services please do not offer them to people.

Will not set foot in this store again.Tried to shop in the area to support local businesses, but being called out and labelled as "all these new winter walkers" by a staff member was disgusting. Coming off an ankle and knee injury, I went searching for a new winter shoe/boot that will be lighter than my normal winter boots. The gentleman that helped me find the right fit was nice and helpful.

The OGE is THE place in VT. I love the consignment section both as a contributor and a buyer. Good for the environment and the wallet. It’s a VT /BTV institution, and we’ve got to keep the OGE (pronunciation: the ōj) alive!

What ever you do, don’t ask the guy in the back with the English accent if they have the canoe paddles that are on the website. He actually answered my question by giving me a Google lesson in the rudest, snobbiest way possible. ā€œNext time you are looking for a specific item, you should Google the item and then type in near me.ā€ Thanks for the lesson, bud. That’s exactly what I did to find the canoe paddle that I’m asking you about.OGE has clearly changed for the worse and should not hire rude jerks.

Saw all the glowing reviews and decided to support a local business for ski purchases for a family of four. Stopped in and had 3 employees walk by us as we were checking out equipment. One of them actually made a noise as he walked by as my kids were blocking his path rather than saying ā€œexcuse meā€ or something similar. When no one offered to help I asked two employees for help with something, and was simply told ā€œit’s over thereā€ before he turned back to his chat with his friend. Went home and ordered the gear online. I’d avoid going here due to the poor customer service

I am based in South Carolina and was looking for a VERY nice SUP paddle for a friend. My coupon codes weren't working and I couldn't come into the store (unless I flew there). Nick J. emailed me IMMEDIATELY and then took my call when I became confused. His customer service and authenticity are AMAZING and I couldn't have asked for better help. Thank you Outdoor Gear Exchange (esp. Nick), for saving my day!

There is a reason this is my only gear place. Not only do they know what they are talking about, each person I encounter is helpful and seems to really just like what they do and the people they help. For example, as a consigning customer at times, I am forever impressed by Simon and his comedic routine of caring while having fun doing what he does so well in the consignment department! This entire organization is representative of the top management and their philosophy of caring about their team as well as the customers.
