My wife took her great Dane to be spayed. It was a good looking healthy dog. We went to pick it up and they told us it was dead !!! Broke our hearts and the staff just acted like oh well no big deal. My wife is blind and she loved that dog . It was her protection and they were best buddies. So very sad.

Recently moved to the area and have a horse that was showing signs of not being able to swallow (choking). They are one of the few vets that have the facility and equipment to scope him. Dr. Howton knows his stuff after doing it for 40+ years! No issues found in throat but after an exam of my horses teeth they do not line up enough for him to breakdown food. Scheduled a followup appt to get them floated.Great staff, facility and care!

I so appreciate this excellent team of loving professionals. Excellent experience. Dr. Howton tells it the way it is. Highly experienced and knowledgeable vet. They have helped myself and my animals so much. Advice? Go here first...they fixed major issues others vets would not deal with.

Just wanted to write that I’m disgusted with the lack of compasión of this vet . My friend took her cat yesterday , she was only 2 years old . The cat ate one of her daughters toys and needed a 1,500 dlls operation to remove the toy so the cat can live . My friend didn’t have the money up front so she was denied help, not even the option to pay the surgery on payments , they didn’t even offered to euthanize the cat . The cat was euthanized 24 hours later bcs the obstruction was in her stomach and she couldn’t ear or drink anymore.I am disgusted with places like that that are only doing this for the money , zero compassion for that poor and young animal . If this vet was doing this for the love of animals , the cat would be alive today . Shame on them

I can't tell you how much I LOVE our new vet, Dr. Howton, and the staff at Winnsboro Veterinary Medical Center! They are knowledgeable and kind. Their service is exceptional and their pricing is very reasonable. Our best friend, "Coach", is getting older - but it's comforting to know he has the loving care he needs to ensure he'll be living his life to the fullest, despite the complications of aging.

So, I have mixed emotions about this place. The actual vet, awesome. I absolutely LOVED him. He even waved his professional fee/office visit fee because help for my baby boy was gonna cost. I am also very grateful for them allowing us to pay out some of the medical costs for Bailey out over a few months. Even though Bailey did not make it, I know that they helped his final days be more peaceful and less painful.My only complaint is that an assistant/nurse/tech (not suue how that works) told me she thought we had negligently caused his illness. She's still kicking because I was absolutely distraught at the time.I should mention that I have used this vet for many of my other animals over the years and never once have we had a complaint with the service my animals and I received there. Excellent doctor.

Multiple visits to this vet. First one was for a dog, hubby took him and said he won't go back there. Second was a cat for spaying, her belly looked botched. Third one was for a cat for chronic syndrome, they looked at the history and asked me if I want the same treatment. I should've walked out at that point. No, I gave them chance to treat him, after the treatment he is in same condition. Definitely no.

I was referred to this vet clinic as my dog needed surgery. Although I really didn’t have an issue with the veterinarian, the thought of leaving my dog there for surgery brought me to tears. The staff was very abrupt and unfriendly. They treated me poorly so I can’t imagine how they would have treated my dog when I wasn’t there. I promptly canceled our surgical appointment and found another surgical vet. The care and treatment was night and day. Not to mention this vet was ridiculously expensive for preop evaluation and care. Will never step foot in this office again.

Dr. Houten is awesome. His staff is very professional and caring. He's taken excellent care of my cats 🐈 for many years. I rescue cats, so I have many, and as cats are wont to do, get themselves into trouble and incur injuries. The Doctor is very skilled and always on the spot to take care of any emergencies that arise. Thank you Winnsboro Vet!!!!!

This was a very unfortunate experience. We went to leave our puppy with them for 3 days. The ONLY person who would communicate with us was the recepionist. Our German Shepard (GS) had to receive shots, and room and board for 3 days. The vet and the assistants didn't come out to speak to us, explain the process or communicate with us the owners of the dog. It was very difficult to trust people to leave our dog with, and this experience failed to easy our trust concern. Their lack of communication was extremely unprofessional. This is a strongly needed skill if you are going to care for someones animal. It made us uncertain to leave our dog with them. They didn't instill confidence in us and when our dog was returned she was more scared and ready to get the heck out of there. We will NEVER use this vet, nor recommened this vet to people, if you care for your pets, please take them to a vet that shows they care and will address your concerns.Jeff and Carmen Wright

Took my Doberman in to get his ears clipped and our initial meeting went great. Was quoted a price around 350. Got the surgery done thursday and went back to pick up the dog friday. The lady behind the desk couldn't figure out to pay with a credit card so she said to pay during our follow up on Monday (3 days later). During our follow up they unwrapped his ears and the "dr" said they should be fine to leave unwrapped (a several week long process of unwrapping and rewrapping normally) and then charged us $535. The same day his freshly cut ears started curling so I took him back after 2 days of trying their rub method that they never fully explained. Was received with soooo much attitude. They did wrap them again while telling me condescendingly that I'm supposed to rub them straight. Then wanting me to come back 2 days later so they could take the wrap off again. We had to look online to how to do it ourselves but even now after 2 weeks they still curl when uncovered and will not stay straight. I guess the vet people think dog owners have all day to just sit and rub on their dogs ears until they are straight since when u rub them they stay straight for all or 20 seconds. Not to mention one ear is at least 1/4 of an inch longer. We had to cancel all follow ups and will not be visiting this place again.

We came here bc my in laws recommended them and I've tried 3 other vets in surrounding cities. I am happy to say we have found a permanent family vet! It cost HALF the price of others and they were treating the same issues as the other 3. Also, a very sweet elder couple (that seems they have used this vet for a long time) took their dog in to be put to sleep. I'm unsure of the issues, but it was a much older dog. They walked out crying, empty handed except for the pups collar and leash, saying it was their last pup to be put down. The staff was also heartbroken about it and as the elder man opened his wallet, they said no...we've got it. It was a beautiful moment in a heartbreaking one. I will be back bc because of that moment.

Dr Howton is an excellent vet. He has cared for all 4 of my parent’s beloved labs, their weenie dog, several cats, and my baby heeler/shepherd mix.One of our kittens would not have survived if the vet tech had not recognized her level of dehydration, which she got on immediately. The kitten made a full recovery and is now a happy, healthy, chunky 4 year old kitty. He saved my in-law’s puppies from parvo in the middle of the night and offered to let them pay out the services provided. I have never had an emergency, thankfully, but I know this vet would take care of whatever is needed, whenever.

I have to say that I LOVE this office! They have been nothing but wonderful and understanding with us! We picked up a stray who was in very rough shape. We decided to love and keep him forever! All because of the amazing care he was given here. We all worked together in giving Bubba a second chance! I plan on taking the rest of our pets there as well!

Dr. Howton and his staff are SOOO amazing! When our little Charlie was viciously attacked, they saved our baby. He had to do two surgeries (even removed his lung) and literally saved our pups life! I was informed this clinic could provide a satisfactory equine pre-purchase exam. When my vet instructed the Winnsboro veterinarian what films were needed the Clinic proceeded with the pre-purchase exam. At the conclusion of the pre-purchase we were informed that there radiology equipment was inadequate- specifically unable to image the spine of the horse. Therefore I had to drive 4 hours to pick up the horse (near the seller), 5 hours to my vet for the remainder of the examination and clearance of the animal.I was told that my bill at the Winnsboro vet would be $1800 for an inadequate pre-purchase exam. When I called to discuss the absurdity of this charge the customer service was AWFUL and staff incredibly rude on the phone.DO NOT USE THIS VET!

As of this evening, Pete the Cat remains "under observation" after the colossal BLOW of finding he had walloping mouth tumors. Up until a day or so prior we just did not know "anything" was wrong. He is a BIG cat with a Big Boy Face..... With the diagnosis of cancer, I was getting prepared to be saying goodbye to our beloved cat, who had been leading a full, fat and happy cat life. Had it NOT been for the gung-ho attitude of Dr. Horton, his affirmation that he had "done this before" ,and with the amazing imaging technology available at this Establishment to back-up his findings that the cancer had not spread to other organs, Dr. H suggested that surgery would extend his life and he would still be the happy lump we always knew. Otherwise, we, plus his kitty-sister Piper (not to mention his best friend, Newt the Black Lab), would have been suffering a big loss right now. Dr. Horton stated that Pete should, all things being equal, continue his full, happy (if not so fat!) life - even without his jaw. Dr. Horton gave us no-holes-barred (pardon the pun) prognosis. Dr. H WANTED to give Pete this chance too. THAT was obvious! He and his staff showed kindness and compassion - both to me, and the Cat. From the small exposure we have had with this clinic - our first visit, we could not give any higher review. As mentioned, Pete is still under Dr. Horton's care. He could not be in a better place right now. We look forward to bringing him home soon. God bless you, Dr. Horton, for taking that chance with Pete, and for your team's ongoing care
