Came in to purchase a piece of live rock for a new tank. I was assured the rock had been “washed and scrubbed” by the owner. Added it to the new tank (only rock in it) and not even a week later, hair algae is taking root across the entire tank. When you’re charging $10 a lb for live rock, it better be clean. Get to restart this whole system now. Last time I step foot in this place.

After spending way too much money at the chain pet stores, we drive to Waco. The owner of North Waco Tropical Fish was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We now have HEALTHY fish who are thriving. I will never buy any fish at the chain pet stores again!I highly recommend this fish store 🐠

Fish have parasites and disease. They knowlingly sell dead snails and are proud of it. They openly talk about scamming people on trades. They knowingly sell dead and infested plants and fish while proudly saying to customers they are saturating the market so that people keep coming back to buy replacements after telling the customer its their fault the stuff they bought is dead. If a store owner thinks they have to stoop that low to keep a customer base they do not deserve a business. They have large vicious dogs trying to attack people through a flimsy chain link fence close to the front door of the shop and think it is appropriate to defend the bad behaviour of the dogs. They ought to be shut down. The owner is a sexist malignant narcissist who has no problem telling you he believes he knows all there is to know about everything in his store and then some. He spouts off myths and scifi fantasy as truth and runs his mouth about obviously bad information when there are scientific peer reviewed papers that have been written to prove most of what he says to be untrue. Even if you hold a PhD in Aquatic Biology (according to him he has no formal education in anything aquatic because it is just a "hobby" to him), he will know better than you and will talk over you to tell you he has been in the business for so many years and knows better than the scientific community. This place is a complete disgrace. I have only visited this store a total of 5 times. Everything that I have written here I witnessed happening mostly to other people while in the store and very minute amount of my own experience. A lot of the good reviews were more than likely promised some sort of discount or are written by family. I will not be going back here again.

Cheapest driftwood I've been able to find anywhere. Cheapest fish too, and all of them were very healthy. The owner and lady working there were also nice. I will visit again.

Visited today, got a few floaters and a plant, very well priced. We also got some wood, and it was way cheaper than the things at commercial pet stores, not sure If I need to boil the wood though. Plants look healthy and employees are very helpful! They have rocks, wood, plants and fish for sale as well as tanks and tank acessories, freshwater and saltwater! Everything you need, with low prices compared to other stores. Definitely reccomend!

North Waco Tropical Fish Store is the best. I have been shopping there since I was in college at Baylor. I love fish. Neil has really been helping me with my salt water tank. I come in on a regular basis; I enjoy the conversation and the advice on what I can add or do to ensure my fish thrive!

Friendly family owned! The tanks are always clean and i never have had an issue with sick fish unlike the big name stores! The prices are reasonable and the candles in the store are amazing! I have 7 thanks they help me keep stocked and always willing to give advice on which fish go with the others!

Most rascist experience in my life!!! Drove all the way to Waco from college station to purchase fish for me my 3 huge tanks in which I own many tropical fish. I usually don’t write reviews, but I definitely was livid!! I’m black or (AA) as described in the US. Well a Caucasian woman walks right in before me and is greeted by both the man in woman working at the store (which I’m sure the male was the owner and lady a family member). Long story short, neither of them said a word to me the entire time (until I asked the guy about other fish room;that was it) the lady remanded on her phone like she didn’t even see me. I had my fish already pick out as I had visited the website and drove and 400 bucks worth the tropical fish picked out. I was so upset at the way I was profiled and treated, I just silently walked out the store and drove back to college station… but yeah, most rascist experience ever!!

Has several different stock. Busy place. They have corral, a couple with a huge colony and very few salt water fish. Most however are freshwater. The fish i have purchased from them have all survived with no signs of parasites or bacteria. Shares knowledge on tank cycling before/ during purchase. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is they have inventory in the middle of the walk way, making it very crowded when there are more than 4 coustmers in the store.All in all its a great little place. I will visit again and again.

Locally owned and operated for multiple generations. The people are very knowledgeable and the tanks are very clean without parasites. They have two rooms with lots of varieties of fresh and saltwater fish, plants, and corals. The fish are stocked each week but do run out from time to time since this is a very popular store with locals. It can be a bit hard to locate but it is a gem hidden a bit off the beaten path.

Staff is very nice, they have a good selection of local bred stock. I recently pick up some dwarf rainbow that were a very good size and some good quality kio angels that are doing great.

Super friendly family owned place to get your fish. They are knowledgeable and willing to help figure out what you need to be successful with your aquarium. We travel from Temple (about 35 min drive from our house) to buy livestock for our aquarium. They package the fish appropriately and we make it home without any problems. The times I've visited the store I have always seen healthy livestock, coral and plants in clean, maintained aquariums.
