After my home renovation went sideways I reached out to Joel at the recommendation of a friend in the business.He fixed everything that had gone wrong in the first place, completed the project, and provided the ideas and know how to make it better than I had originally envisioned. He was super responsive by text or phone, showed up, worked hard, and charged a very reasonable rate. I have referred him to several friends and call him Literal Angel on Earth Joel, after he took us from having a home that was unlivable to truly beautiful in a matter of weeks.Just as importantly, he was a pleasure to have around. Even when my husband was home he spoke to both of us, rather than assuming that my husband was the sole decision maker.The next time that I need any work done on my home he will be my first call.

Joel is a great contractor. He is very knowledgeable and as far as I can tell knows how to complete any kind of home construction/remodel. He does not sub out the work to other contractors. He did all the work himself with his own crew and did a great job. He was very transparent with prices, time-line and how he would complete the remodel. I would definitely recommend his services to anyone that needs some remodeling or larger projects. I will definitely use his services again in the future if I need anymore repairs or remodeling. Hired Joel to replace the facia on a 40 year old barn in July of 2023. He had done work for us previously on a couple of small jobs and appeared to be honest, responsible and reliable. Previously, his work product was, albeit expensive, adequate and done in a timely manner. He held himself out to be a master carpenter, and so the replacement of the facia board on an old barn should have been well within his skill set. Unfortunately, what we got was a wavy mess of crookedly place boards that looked liked they'd never seen a chalk line. The job was so poorly done that we had to hire another contractor to repair the work at an additional cost to us. To add insult to injury, Joel charged us 2.5 times the going rate for similar work in this area. He took advantage of a couple of senior citizens who trusted him. He exploited our lack of knowledge of the construction industry while charging us an exorbitant amount for what should have been a rather simple and relatively inexpensive job had it been done correctly the first time. Needless to say, we won't be hiring Joel for any future work and would advise others to look elsewhere for their home improvement and remodelling needs. Follow-up to your response (3/23/24): Joel, integrity is when you do a good job for someone at a fair and reasonable price. Integrity is owning up to it when you do a poor job and/or overcharge someone. The "roofer" which you referred to us, was paid in full, and then some, for all the work he did. He was given the siding job because his bid was half of what you were going to charge for the same job. Oh and that "roofer", he was your most ardent critic when it came to the facia boards. In fact, he complained so often about how crooked the facia boards were that I finally had to tell him I didn't want to hear it any more. Also, I doubt there's any where near $2000 in materials in that facia job you did, and the acutal amount of time you and your so-called crew put into the job was more like a day and a half, not 3 days. Joel did you really think that people wouldn't eventually complain about how you overcharge them? I stand by my oringinal review

Before a predicted big storm surge, I called A-1 Home Repairs to ask if they could do a quick reinforcement/repair on my leaky skylight. Joel came the very next morning and made that skylight waterproof, to my great relief. He was easy to talk to, and good at explaining what he was doing. Let me tell you - I love to get myself in over my head by attempting my own home repairs and whenever I get in too deep I call Joel to bail me out…which has been twice this week so far 😂 He’s super friendly and makes himself available to come do work ASAP. Turnaround is quick and he has always offered to explain or answer any questions which I really appreciate. His prices are reasonable. Work is clean and looks professional. He took hastily drawn plans and produced all aspects of the master bedroom, bath, and adjoining closet/sewing room coming in under budget and on time. Came the same day as promised. Stayed late in the evening to complete my work. Was very thorough, even crawled in the attic to fix a duct someone else had left venting into the attic. I hired Joel Lane to remodel my historic home in Bastrop. The house is 130 years old and needed a lot of updating including a full kitchen tear out and rebuild. Wood floors were installed, new fence built, and numerous rooms painted in addition to new kitchen cabinets in the full kitchen remodel. It took 4 months of full-time work, but Joel worked hard and got the job done. Everything looks amazing and turned out better than I imagined.From the beginning of the project, Joel took a very proactive approach on everything he did. He always asked my opinion on everything before he did it. He is a great guy and is dependable, hardworking, and very conscientious. He also has a great attitude with everything he does. I would change the plan midstream and he would always be flexible to incorporate all my crazy ideas. Joel is more than just your everyday handyman, and calling him one should be an insult. I can say I am completely amazed at the work this man can do. He is professional, honest and efficient.
