My wife and I were in Whitwell, TN on vacation and this is the first place we chose to eat. When we got to the restaurant, we got excited because the parking lot was full of locals (we knew the food was going to be great when we saw this). It did take a few minutes to get waited on because the restaurant was very busy but the staff was great! Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was very nice. Food was great! I had beef liver with onions, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, hash brown casserole, and "The Elvis" milkshake. My wife had a veggie plate and an absolutely delicious hot fudge cake. I definitely recommend Cafe on 28!Parking: Very accessible parking lot - easy to get in and out of. They also have handicap parking available near the restaurant entrance.Kid-friendliness: We didn't have our children with us but there were lots of children there. There are plenty of kid friendly options on the menu. The restaurant has a great family atmosphere.

Wow! I found a truly wonderful home cooking cafe. It's located on Hwy 28 , Downtown Whitwell TN. The food was awesome. If you're traveling between Nashville and Chattanooga. Jump off I-24 and head about 12 miles down Hwy 28. It is worth the short drive. The fried squash, fried green tomatoes, pork chops, pinto beans, cornbread, and sweet tea were just like my granny made!

Based on google reviews we rode our motorcycle through the mountains from Soddy to eat at this place. What a mistake. We’ve eaten at most of the diners in the area including sue-bobs, Jonny hook, and chefs. This was the worst! Masked waitress lost our ticket and blamed the chef for getting both of our orders wrong which she obviously did not check before she brought it to us. She didn’t even offer to remake it. We would have declined anyway because it already took over an hour to get our food. Had to scrape off the mayo that I asked to not have on the turkey bacon swiss sandwich. The yellow mustard packets they gave me were gross and must have been super old. Looked like brown paste. Would never go again. Too bad because we ride through that area all the time.

Very friendly! The food was surprisingly good! Turkey bacon swift melt, seasoned fries, and cheese pizza was good. The homemade banana pudding was bomb! If you’re driving through and need food give them a try!

Great 'little' hole in the wall. The food was amazing! Meat and 2 for $7.99! Fresh made chicken fingers and fried fish. Just don't get the pintos. They weren't seasoned at all! The fried green tomatoes-yum!! And the Johnny cake - SO GOOD! We will definitely have to stop back by here next time we're passing through. Service was a little lacking , but there was only one working the whole floor, not her fault!

Love the hometown atmosphere and decor of the restaurant .The staff was very friendly while maintaining professional service .Food was excellent well worth the price and I would recommend it to anyoneKid-friendliness: Waitress was very nice and made a very delicious ice cream cone for my granddaughter who was excited to get 2 scoops that she included with her meal

Drove through the rain for a pizza that was subpar. The dough very thick with bubbles and so little cheese , that it is not even a topping..... so disappointed with this ...don't get me started on the wings.... soggy and very expensive for what it is ...poor quality! Ruin my date night with husband.. thought I was going to bring this back home and have a great meal boy was I wrong. Other things maybe good but this isn't one of them

Cafe 28 is not just a good restaurant in an area that does not have a lot options, it’s a great restaurant whose food is better than most from McMinnville to Chattanooga. It is definitely worth the detour south if heading past Dunlap or the detour north if heading past jasper. Or a quick drive down from lookout mountain. Was passing through on buisness and was fortunate enough to stop at such a great eatery. Have now been back several times and it never disappoints.

Visited my brother today and he suggested Cafe on 28 for his birthday lunch. It was my first time eating there. Both the food and service was outstanding!The chicken livers are some of the best I've ever had, the fried squash and potato casserole was also very good!!..wish I lived closer because I would eat there several times a week..its that good!!

Called ahead to see if they could handle 10 of us. We got there and a table was ready and we had drinks in minutes. Food came quickly, piping hot completely as ordered and reasonably priced. Everyone said their food was very good and the waitress couldn't have been any better. A well earned 5 star.

My wife Terri and I stopped at Cafe on 28 after finding our usual favorites closed on New Year's Eve. Terri was in a mood for some catfish and I wanted something a little lighter. Fortunately for us, Cafe on 28 was open and serving up some great dishes!We were greeted by the very friendly staff and quickly seated. After perusing the specials on board, we were happy to find dishes to please us both, to include catfish for Terri. I am also a huge fan of fried pickles, so I couldn't resist trying the fried pickle platter appetizer that included fried pepper rings.When our food arrived, it was so plentiful that the plates could hardly fit on the table. I had half of my spicy tuna bacon avocado wrap (I was pleasantly surprised to find they use their homemade pimento cheese spread in the wrap!) and then helped Terri with a piece of her catfish. (I swear there was an entire catfish on that plate!) The sides were excellent and plentiful as well.Our bellies full and very satisfied, we packed up THREE to-go boxes with the leftovers from our appetizer and entrees. With a generous tip, this New Year's Eve feast cost me less than $50.Needless to say at this point, Cafe on 28 is the newest addition to our list of favorites in the Sequatchie Valley of Tennessee! I highly recommend you add it to your list of places to stop by when you're in the area.

My wife and I are regulars and we live on top of Suck Creek Mountain. Today everything was greasy.. I told them that they need to change the grease to keep the food good. Probably growing pains because they have been pretty busy.
