Flew in to the UOS airport and walked the goat trail to this fantastic favorite local gathering spot. Inside and outside seating, March madness on the television but the real action was that the entire Rhodes lacrosse team pulled up in their bus and had lunch with us! We had the fish and chips and the blue chair salad and a nice conversation with the owner Jerry and his wife Sara. Highly recommend!

A few days ago my family and I ate at this quaint little restaurant.THE FOOD:We each ordered something different, and we were all very pleased! Good portion sizes, and super tasty. We also purchased a huge rice crispy treat and a delicious cinnamon roll from the cafe- wow, they were perfect!THE LOCATION:Super cute street, several quaint shops around, easy parking. The restaurant, has a cafe section next door which is open for breakfast. The cafe has a huge selection of muffins, cookies, pastries, etc. The restaurant has inside and patio seating. Lots of shaded areas in the outside patio, and dog friendly!!THE STAFF:The young man who took our orders at the counter was the son of the owner, super friendly, sharp, and accommodating young man! He got our orders right. Our server was great as well. Again, she too was extremely accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. The best thing was getting to meet the owner Jimmy. He spoke with us for a while- what an amazing man- we all just lived his personality and hospitality!! Jimmy visited with all the tables and made everyone feel right at home.We will be visiting this place again for sure!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking a trip out and stopping by this super fun cafe!Dietary restrictions: Offer gluten free options

We were very excited to come back to the blue chair as every time we visit sewanee for family we make it a point to stop here. Every time we have been very happy with our time, this time less so. The food was great and coffee pretty good. But the customer service was lacking. The woman at the counter was very patient with our big group helped us with everything. But there was obvious signs of stress most likely form her coworker running around, being rude, and forgetting many orders and names. His customer service was less than desirable.

Highly disappointed in our experience. We came in early afternoon for lunch and sat in the cafe. We noticed immediately that the place had a lot of character and had a very comfortable feel. The waitress took our drink order and food order quickly and that was the end of the good service. My husband ordered the Nashville hot chicken and I ordered the catfish. I opted for the catfish on a croissant and the menu stated that it came with slaw and the option of tarter sauce or marmalade. I requested tarter sauce. My husband’s plate was delivered to him fairly quickly and I didn’t get my food until at least ten minutes later. It sat in the kitchen window for minutes prior to her bringing it to our table. When the waitress brought my plate out we immediately noticed that my catfish was covered in marmalade and there was no tarter sauce to be found. She said she would be right back with tarter sauce - without me commenting or asking for it, which tells me she knew my order was incorrect. I did not send it back because I was very hungry and did not want to wait for a new plate. While the catfish was cooked perfectly, it was not seasoned and neither was the tiny scoop of cole slaw that was on the sandwich. I did not enjoy the marmalade on my catfish (I know this is a taste preference), it just didn’t work for me. The waitress never came back with my tarter sauce and only came back to leave the check after we finished eating. While I realize it was a little busy, the customer service could have been far better. The waitress was busy having personal conversations with other staff members. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this cafe to dine in. As a side note, I was so irritated once I received my plate that I forgot to snap a picture before eating.

The place may be uncomfortably small inside, but man, the food is delicious! We were in town sightseeing when we noticed it was lunch time. After a quick search on Google, this came up. Due to the great reviews, we decided to give it a shot. Thank goodness we did! Everything we ordered was beyond delicious!! The pretzel bites? Salty and crispy on the outside, yet soft and airy on the inside. Chicken tenders and chicken sandwich? Both cooked to perfection, and the breading was fantastic! The fries and homemade chips? The best i have had in such a long time! The food was so amazing we had to order some baked goods to go to know if it was just as wonderful. (They most definitely are).I really didn't know what to expect from the Blue Chair Cafe & Tavern, but you guys exceeded them. This food alone will have us stopping back whenever we visit Tennessee again!

My first time experience was terrible. Walked in and asked if this was the bakery. He said yes, go next door and get what you want and come back here to pay for it. I got some muffins and went back to him and paid for it. Most of the bakery items looked bad, so I grabbed some muffins and a brownie. The muffins were so stale and crumbly.. I had to throw them out. The brownie wasn't any better. I'm pretty sure I won't be back.

We had a great lunch with The family. The kids got a Mac and cheese which was creamy , sharp cheddar delicious. I got the cheese steak which they put A1 sauce on it so be warned if you like that. Next was chicken salad sandwich. The bread was very crunchy and chicken salad was fresh and creamy. Last was the star of the afternoon which was the meat and three chicken pot pie. Crust was amazing and chicken delicious. I would recommend this place. I can not wait to try breakfast.

Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and vegetarian options. Wednesday is two for one drinks, busy so go early if you want a table. Blackbeard burger was delicious and mildly spiced.

We stopped in after a friend recommended to us who went to college at Sewanee. We had battered chicken tenders with battered fries, fish and chips, a Bearwalker brew, and iced tea. Food was cooked fresh and plenty. Seating is tight and cozy. We enjoyed the large TV to watch the ballgame. Before leaving, I walked into the adjacent bakery (same building) and grabbed some to-go treats. I absolutely recommend the salted brown butter rice krispie treat.

We visited The Blue Chair Cafe for breakfast while staying in nearby Tracy City and now I can't wait to go back to their tavern next door. The breakfast was simple which is exactly what I wanted! They also have delicious coffee and lattes served hot or iced with flavor options as well. The owner was there and he was super friendly. He gave us a lot of great recommendations for hiking in the area! The outdoor seating in front of the cafe and tavern is very inviting. I'm excited to go back to enjoy their outdoor space!

Most personable waitress ever. She delighted us with local history and gave us directions to a town treasure. The bakery is filled with delicious treats too!

Loved it. The patty melt was a tasty mess, as one should be. Made with locally sourced beef in a huge burger. My wife loved her Benedict with veggie sausage. (Morning Star. Good stuff.) Great they have several vegetarian friendly options. Can't wait to get back to try the bakery and ice cream.

Delicious lunch and great community vibe! The cesar salad with grilled chicken and beer-battered fries hit the spot. Jackalope lovebird hefe and IPA beers were great - love that they have these Nashville brews. Also love the dog-friendly outdoor seating (they have water bowls and brought our dog a treat!). Will be stopping by next time I'm in Sewanne! Service was excellent.

Came to Sewanee to mountain bike and visit for the day and grabbed a late lunch at The Blue Chair Cafe & Tavern. I always love to stop in small towns at the local restaurants and getting a feel for the vibes of the town. The Blue Chair is truly a mountain town gem. I got the best burger and beer money can buy, and ended up hanging out with Jimmy, the owner, and some of the other locals shooting the breeze for quite a while. I can't wait to come back and hang out longer.

Let’s start w/Brooklyn N attitude. It’s was the worst I’ve see in a long time. You don’t just tell a customer, here, sign this(the receipt)w/out using please or thank you. She walked by us at least 7 times and didn’t even stop to see if we needed anything or to find out if the food was good. The owner, an older gentleman did the same thing exact thing as well. While the food was okay, nothing spectacular, I’m pretty sure the bed of lettuce they put my burger on was from a salad as it had salad dressing on it. Overall, we see no reason to come back or even recommend it to others. Also, pretty sure a waitress was outside laying down on one of the picnic tables. Overall, you have what appears to be several other places in this area to give your money to. I’d check them out before coming here!

The people and atmosphere were very nice and relaxed.. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The pretzel bites were saturated in butter or grease, asked for no onions on the patty melt, but got chopped up onions on it, and the sweet potato fries came out cold and very greasy. On the positive, my grilled chicken fingers were very good. Perfectly cooked!
