Located at the top of 153 hill next to Khol's, Academy Outdoor is conveniently located right at the edge of Hixson. It and Khols are the only two department stores located in this center. So it's easy to get in and out of the center as well as you can always find a great parking spot even though they are always busy. We usually buy all of our tennis shoes, sandals, and casual loafers here because they have a wide selection as well as they carry a variety of brands. Their prices are normally pretty competitive. However, even if we go there with the idea of purchasing shoes, we always browse the entire store. Because of the wide range of items they offer. You will be able to find anything from workout equipment, weights, sports equipment for golf, basketball, baseball, softball, and all the other sports. They carry bicycles for all ages. They carry clothing for men, women, and children, camping gear,BBQ supplies, fishing, and any other outdoor activities that you can think of. They'll have supplies for it. I also love their large selection of sunglasses. The employees are very friendly and professional. They always have a line for checking out, but it always moves quickly. I also like that they carry collegiate apparel for all the major universities in the south.

Ordered some discounted items on-line at a great price.When arriving at the store, items were bought to us in within a couple of minutes.Good experience this time, as well as in times past.

Absolute worst experience. My wife and daughter walked in to buy a kayak and a paddle board. We put the paddle board in our cart walked to look at the kayaks, took a picture of the sign advertised in front of the kayak and above them brought it to the register to pay. When the worker said they will meet me back there to grab it turns out they had it mislabeled. One of the associates who was helping me started being rude to me for asking about the mix up. The manager on duty wouldn’t barely talk to me to fix the issue so I refunded the kayak up front and have filed a BBB complaint. Will update asap!

Wow! Haven’t been in there for a while, but I was amazed at all they had! The store was clean and the employees were very helpful! I’m excited for the chance to go back in next time I’m in Hixson! I go down to Ooltewah for my doctors appointment pretty regularly so I will definitely be stopping by again.

Wish they had more items on sale in the fishing section. I mean it is Memorial Day weekend. The other big store a few miles away had a decent sale. Other than that store was clean and pretty organized. Did drive an hour and a half just to get here but I’m sure I’ll return or day

Only sporting goods shop where I have had to show my ID just to handle a firearm, everywhere else doesn't require showing ID just to handle a firearm.

I still like this store The prices are good. The store is always clean but someone in their infinite wisdom decided that it would be a good idea to remove someone from one of the registers and just put them in a seat near the front door. Basically all they do is just wave at people and say hello to everyone. Academy doesn't need a greeter. What time I've been having to wait to check out lately at this store is way too long during some parts of the day. Get rid of the greeter put them on a register.

Omg I love this place. I got Little Q some shirts and belts within my budget. I searched online prior to going to the store and everything I saw online matched the prices in store. Wide selection of things and very easy to find what you are shopping for. I loved the staff, they were very nice while assisting with check out. I forgot the women’s name but she works during the week in the mornings. I will be coming back for school shopping for my boys. Thank you for giving me a great experience shopping at your store.

So many items in one place, I was a little bit surprised, but the main thing I was going for they had a bad selection of(water shoes) almost sold out, which I kinda understand, but it's still summer time, so it seems poor management?? I got a few things I didn't go there for because the stock was there, so not all bad, but I didn't go to Walmart because I wanted selection, which failed in my case but rated 5 stars because I want to believe if I go back the next visit will be better...

Bought gun safe. When I pulled around back to have it loaded the safe was damaged from handling. I was advised it was the only one they had but they offered me 10% off to keep the safe. I declined. 10% is not worth the trouble.

Good location, great staff, and they have a lot to offer. They have anything you can think of outdoor or sport related. They also have things that don't relate to those categories. If you have any trouble one of the staff members will very happily help. The only thing is it is a little difficult to get pulled out at the red light, due to all of the traffic. Overall great sporting and outdoor store.
