What a wonderful experience. The staff is amazing, educated, honest and helpful. They have a fantastic group of animals available that are heartwarming. If you are looking to share your home with a loving animal that you and your family will love this is a terrific place to look.

Wow, what a wonderful sanctuary for animals and place for us to find our next beloved family member! The facility was spotless, and even smelled fine which is a first for me - and I've been in many shelters! The animals were peaceful and in excellent shape. Clearly getting ample medical care and love. Their enclosures were meticulously kept. Staff were so gentle, kind and knowledgeable. Kristin, the queen bee who runs things, is phenomenal. She offered solid advice, patiently answered all my questions, and welcomed my slow decision making process. It's clear she loves animals and her important job. I highly recommend this shelter - even if you are out of state! Love my new puppy, Jade so much! Thank you!

I don't know what professional woman answered the phone for a previous reviewer but that's not my experience. I'm apprehensive to leave a bad review for a shelter, and if you want to adopt then still do because the animals deserve it, but the woman who answers the phone (at least the 2 times I've called) is rude and unprofessional. Also no one responded to applications to foster/volunteer. I guess if you're a private shelter and don't have to take animals when you don't want to or can't, you're not concerned with making space. But if you care about making space for more animals, therefore saving lives, you should respond to every reputable foster and volunteer who applies.

I got a kitten from the Humane Society, I got him for myself but he’s actually in love with my husband. 😂The humane society made it super easy to adopt him, he’s perfectly healthy, snuggly, playful, everything I wanted in a kitten except that one little thing where the little Judas loves my husband more than me. 😂❤️🤗10/10 would recommend.

I got the fur aby for life! The people were wonderful and patient. Talked to me over the internet for weeks. I need a service dog prescribed by my dr and saved a friend who will save me.

Doesn't even take dogs from the public what's the point of a shelter funded by tax dollars that only gets dogs from kill shelters in other areas.

When you take your pet to be neutered or spayed you need to be there between 8:00 & 8:50, before 9:00! Otherwise you have to make another appointment. They close the doors promptly before 9:00. Opens again at 10:00. Not so promptly.

I had adopted from the jefferson county humane society before and knew this was the place I wanted to go. I was interested in looking for a kitten and all of them were extremely cute. But I really liked carson, I renamed him prince. The staff were super friendly and the whole adoption process was extremely smooth. I think for 75$, that was a very fair price to pay to make sure the kitten would be going to a good home. Overall, they were extremely friendly and answered every question I had to ask of them. I highly recommend going here if you want to find your new pet and friend:)

This was the first time I had been there. I took my daughter and grandson. It's very clean in there and the girls that were there running the place are awesome! There weren't any puppies and the kittens were too young to be adopted. However they had beautiful older cats that were really sweet.

A NO Kill shelter that got back to us when my daughter and I were trying to find a place for a mother cat and 4 kittens. The place was clean, animals well kept and the staff was friendly. The staff was knowledgeable and handled all the cats with experience and care. We left feeling relieved that the mom and family would b in a good place, taken care of until they find their forever home. We were gonna take all animals back to WI cause all the other shelters said they would kill them if not adopted within 2 days! Thank you for being the light and reaching out when the cats needed you. I highly recommend the Humane Society of Jefferson County.

My granddaughter and myself went by the humane society last fall to look at the animals. A Middle Aged shorter lady was out front working and ask me why we were there. I told her that my granddaughter wanted to look at the pets available. We were told she could not let us do that. That it would only cause chaos and get the animals stirred up. But as we were speaking another car pulled up & walked right in. I don’t know if this lady thought we weren’t serious about adopting, if she thought we didn’t look good enough or rich enough for her taste or what her problem was. People like her are one of the reasons the shelter is overrun with animals. It is not up to her to decide who looks worthy and who isn't when it comes to viewing the animals. I could have been and possibly would have been someone wanting to donate supplies to the shelter. I guess according to her it’s more important to be in the elite class than to actually help the shelter itself. FYI “Do not judge lest ye be judged. “

Our humane society has very thoughtful associates. I will always adopt my fur babies from them. We brought a kitten home and a 5 year old cat this last month.

Friendly staff. They no longer spay or neuter there but were more than happy to write down and give me a referral for another low cost option. Thank you for all the kind work you do helping animals in need.

I wanted to compliment a gentleman that I passed in Walgreens Wednesday evening off of Western Avenue. I walked into the store and noticed an orange tent outside Walgreens and a lady smiled and waved at me as I quickly walked in. Once in the store I was trying to locate some cough drops for my wife and was having difficulty finding them and then I saw a gentleman with a lanyard around his neck, glasses, a joyful smile, and jovial countenance. I reached out towards him and asked if he could help me and he quickly stated “absolutely, I don’t work here but I’m here enough I can probably show you” and we simultaneously burst into laughter, shock hands as if we knew each other, gave a quick chest bump hug, and smiled walking away from each other. I stepped into an aisle and was quickly greeted again by the gentleman who pointed out the correct aisle I should be in. Once I purchased the cough drops I then exited the store to once again cross paths with the lady and gentleman in whom greeted me with smiles coming and going but this time we spoke and laughed a while then they very concisely and passionately expressed there presence at Walgreens. I stated that I give to many organizations and didn’t feel that I wanted to give at the moment but I wanted to write a positive and glowing review over the gentleman and lady in whom I was speaking with. It’s nice to meet individuals who are real and represent their company well and their passions even more. ASPCA should be proud to have individuals who represent their company like this gentleman and lady. My apologies for not remembering their names but this particular exchange took place on April 12th around 6:30-6:40pm at the Walgreens 4423 Western Ave. Knoxville, TN 37921. I also asked to take the gentlemans picture so I could post his picture with my comments. He gladly welcomed it so I took his picture. Thanks again for your great attitudes!!!!Thanks,Chonci Houston

We had a wonderful experience when we adopted our new baby. We were allowed to spend time with her for 2 days. We then picked her up after she was spayed. She is the sweetest , most patient and tolerant dog we have ever had. We had to have patience bc the office personnel was short staffed, however, it just gave us more time to spend with our boxer mix. I'm sorry for those that had bad experiences. Ours was great! Thx!

The shelter was very clean. The director is young and enthusiastic. She spent a good amount of time talking with us. I plan to volunteer there. If you are looking for a nice dog to adopt there is a shy beagle, very stressed by all the barking ,who needs a loving home. His name is Jerie. He has been there since April, longer than any other dog. Please consider him.
