My wife and I adopted a beautiful shepherd named Carmen San Diego. She has been an absolute sweetheart still going through her puppy stages and learning her new environment. You'd never know she only has 3 legs. The staff at McKamey we're awesome and super attentive even though they were slammed.

This facility has a team of hard workers and volunteers that only look out for the best interests of these furry friends! They offer vaccinations, spaying/neutering, life saving surgeries, daycare services and more for your pets! I'm doing the Trailblazer program where I can spend the day with a pet outside the facility to help get it adopted, and bring it back late afternoon. They also have a fostering program. Always accepting donations, I love McKamey!❤️🐾

I found these babies and Momma cat on the side of the road in a box. I took to McKamy’s because I didn’t know what to do and knew they needed immediate help. I was told they were too young, there was a respiratory issue in the building and I needed to take them back to the side of the road where I found them. What I sent to owners reply below so everyone knows:I hate to hear that you think my review experience was incorrect, but I can assure you everything I said was correct. I came in, I think it was Tuesday, after lunch. Two young ladies were at the front desk. A light/brown haired lady on the right. The dark haired lady sitting on the left, as you enter the door assisted me. We walked out to my car, a silver Honda Civic. I’m sure you have cameras to check this. She looked at them, told me she needed to check with the supervisor. I moved my car to the front of the building, stayed with the kittens and Momma cat, kept the car running because it was hot that day. She came back out, she had spoken to the supervisor, told me that the building had a very bad upper respiratory infection rampant at the time. She stated they would never survive, their immune systems were not strong enough, take them back to the side of the road where I found them and put them back. “They would have a better chance there than in the building at this time “. I asked her if she was serious, did you just tell me to put these babies back on the side of the road. She answered yes.I know you have to have cameras to check out everything I’m saying. I was wearing black shorts, black t-shirt and white tennis shoes and a baseball hat. Please do not say this was incorrect, I was there, it happened.

We could not be more Grateful for Mcamey! I believe the young woman who helped us was Molly. She was very thorough and answered all of my questions. We fell in love with our Fur baby the moment we met. She is such a blessing to our family and we have McKamey to thank!!

This non-profit needs to lose all funding. Inga Fricke the director doesn't return phone calls and Seth Watson issues bad citations with no violation of city ordinance at the direction of Mayor Tim Kelly's office. Not a single dime should go to this awful organization.

We’ve adopted papa tom on january 18th, 2023 and we must say we’ve had a wonderful experience with them! They were really kind to us and it was overall a pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend them! Now papa tom is in his forever home enjoying his senior life! 💗

Last week I went to McKamey to look at dogs. When I arrived I asked for help with my dog selection as they where helping the woman in front of me with the same question and they told me they where to busy for that, which I understand, but it was just frustrating that they were helping the woman in front of me with it. However, she offered to give me a tour she walked for about 10 steps to where the hallway split off in the four sections and said there’s animals in each four sections, and then she walked back up to the front. I walked around with a list they gave me to write down the name of three dogs that I would like to view individually. When I wrote down my three dogs, I went back up front and handed the paper to the lady that was very rude at the front desk. Then I sat and waited for an hour before they got me in a room. I do understand that they were busy, However, the people that were in the rooms were coming upfront and complaining that they have been left back there for 30 minutes without anyone coming back to check on them. The rude woman escorted me back and Brought out the first dog I chose and told me she would be back in 10-15 minutes. After being in that room for 45 minutes, I walked up front to ask if I could View the second dog. Keep in mind that there are people waiting to be In these rooms. She brought them the second dog witch was not a match for my household as well. After playing with that dog for 30 minutes, I walked back up front and they were assisting people With selecting a dog like I had asked To be helped with in the beginning And was rejected. Then asked for my third dog that I viewed to be the calmest dog they had. Well I found my best friend with that third dog. She was absolutely amazing. I just wish that would be my happy ending but it isn’t. The night of her adoption I noticed she was dripping pee with blood and not even realizing it. I called McKamey because they said if she had a health problem within the first couple of days to call them and they just blew it off like I was crazy and said she was fine. So I took her to my vet and she had a severe UTI, the vet said she had probably had it for weeks…

I understand there is a lot of good that this shelter does. I understand that sometimes things slip through the cracks. What I don’t understand is the lack of transparency. I adopted a cat about a month ago and was never told that it had a history of litter box aversion, a scarred eye, or was going through treatment for a “cold”. So I was sent home with a new cat and a folder and came to learn all of this once I sat down to look through everything. When I called about him needing medicine, they told me that the medication was on the counter, so essentially saying it was my fault. I was never made aware that the cat needed medicine in the first place because I was not handed his medical paperwork until I was walking out the door with him so thats not my fault. When I did get the medicine, I was never given instructions on what to do. So when I initially had it picked up, it was left in the car for a while instead of being refrigerated like it should’ve been according to the label. The cat continued to have problems with a cold. I called as asked to take it back. They told me I had to wait five days. Obviously that’s long enough to fall in love and couldn’t do that to my kids. So I took it to the vet and right off the bat was made aware that the cat will suffer from chronic upper respiratory issues due to having feline herpes. So now I’ll have constant vet bills. I have two other cats and two young children to protect too. This is all an added stress on me during an already hard season of life that was completely avoidable. I am so incredibly upset with this place and how the staff was rude to me on the phone during this. I am all about honesty and compassion. At this point all I want is an apology at least and for others to know to ask for medical paperwork before they’ve paid for a new animal.

Will lie HEAVILY about the animals that they've got to try to find them a homeEdit: the dog I adopted you said exhibited "green flag behavior" he is in fact a walking red flag... he gets along with youngish females only, doesn't like other animals, doesn't like older people, and bit me because I didnt let go of his leash to let him chase a bird...

This place was AMAZING. This was our first time adopting and I don't think we could have had a better experience. Everyone here cares SO MUCH for these animals. They were so excited for our pups to have a forever home that their joy made me cry. Please support them in any way you can. They are doing such great work.

I'm going to start this by saying that Michael Parker-Badge #251 with McKamey's Wildlife rescue division is an angel.I read some of the reviews and to be honest I am shocked. I just wonder if it's the same place. I've never taken an animal to a shelter or adopted one, all of my animals were strays that I just kept. When my father was alive he would take large bags of dog and cat food to them and also gallons of odor ban. My sister and niece used to volunteer there. Some of these reviews were about people calling for animals to be picked up that were roaming neighborhoods and alike. *Keep in mind as you read this next part that I do live in the city limits of Chattanooga*. I came home last night and there was a very sick maybe rabid racoon in my driveway. When I got out of my vehicle it just stared at me. I wasn't sure what to do because there was a stray cat that we feed on the porch at the top of the stairs he was blocking. He finally went up those stairs and I followed him and grabbed the stray cat and took him inside (we've been feeding this cat for years). This racoon was not only sick but it was injured and I had no idea what to do. My sister called McKamey and they came out within the hour, this was about 7:30 last night. This young man was extraordinary, his name is Michael Parker and he was patient and kind to me and this animal. He was very professional and it was dark and almost impossible to see in this outbuilding that the racoon had decided to hide in, but he did his work quickly, efficiently and as humanely as he could. I was so appreciative for this young man and his attitude during this whole issue. Thank You McKamey for this service and Michael Parker!

My husband and I went to mckamey to adopt a dog. I understand places where animals live doesn’t always smell great. The urine smell was strong, in every room. I had to cover my nose and mouth with my jacket. I couldn’t even look for a dog, I couldn’t take the smell.

Great shelter, always follows all laws and regulations. They give you time to walk all the kennels when you have a lost pet, very attentive people. We got both of our cats from here (Zero - originally Rusty, and Voodoo - originally Toddrick) and were allowed to interact with the animals for as long as we wanted so we knew we had made the right choice. 100% recommend them.

Rude service! Got told “ For future reference they only take dogs on appointments only” with an attitude as she was walking away. I also felt like I was being interrogated about this pups. I found three abandoned puppies that I took in till the shelter open. Dropped them off Christmas Eve and I got rude service from this lady. Dogs looked like they had been abandoned for days they were starving and dehydrated they only thing I could do was protect them over night from the cold and feed them. So I took them somewhere where they could be more safe and this is the type of people working there. If you have a bad day don’t take it out on people or hate your job then don’t work there. It’s an animal shelter I thought that’s what you guys did take animals in when In certain circumstances! apparently only when they want or can

I had to put my beautiful baby Blue to sleep today. After only a few days of having her, I found signs that she had diabetes. A vet confirmed this and told me that it was very severe. Keeping her would require me to give her insulin shots twice a day that she would likely hide from and detest. The vet also explained that she was likely in a lot of pain from her sugar being so high (over 400). So, I made the very tough decision to let her go so she wouldn’t have to live with this pain. Please let me be absolutely clear: Blue was given what I was told was a full medical evaluation seconds before I left the shelter. McKamey Animal Center had to have known about these issues. They were also ignorant about her age (which the vet estimated was 2-3 times what I was told) and her gate (which indicated a lack of potassium) along with her diabetes.I would never wish on my worst enemy having to lose a pet in the way I did today. Especially after just getting attached. But McKamey knew and allowed me to adopt Blue anyway. If you choose to adopt an animal from the cruelty that is McKamey Animal Center, be aware that the information you are given is HIGHLY suspect. Confirmation from an independent veterinary professional is absolutely necessary. I now consider them to be inhumane. For Blue and for the many other animals that I am now sure are being abused, I believe that they should be shut down.

Smells like pet urine really bad, and they seem to mix quiet good and old dogs with loud aggressive dog youths in every room instead of having a dedicated quiet dog room. Also there were only 2 cats, about a hundred dogs though

McKamey is worthless, I say that confidently and genuinely. After 50 days of documented photos and texts, with other neighbors corroborating the same complaints, they still have failed to prioritize a vicious dog jumping people's fences and aggressively snarling and barking at me in my own yard and others walking down the street. McKamey specifically said that "wasn't a priority".. "main priority" is "saving animals from the extreme cold. "If you have a family and animals that you love and care for, DO NOT wait for McKamey to protect them. I'm leaving this review as further documentation that I have attempted to handle this civilly within their system, they have no interest in resolving this. Thanks for nothin👎Also, The funny thing is that McKamey won't hesitate to go give someone a ticket for something stupid. They've done it to us before.. OUR dog not on a leash, in MY yard, while I'm right there WITH HIM for 30 mins. But they just can't bring themselves to stop an animal from tearing me or my dogs apart in MY FENCE! 😂

Short version: The facility took in a stray on a Sunday when no one else would/was open. Very punctual, compassionate and kind.Long version: My boyfriend and I were driving through Chattanooga during our vacation yesterday, and found a half starved dog with an enormous tumor on his backside wandering in the middle of the road in an industrial area. Of course we had to stop and get the poor thing, we fed him a tuna packet that was in the car and he jumped right in with us. It was a little difficult to find a place to take him on a Sunday and we really didn't want to drop him at animal control even if they were open. Finally we got ahold of admissions at this animal center and the girl who I spoke to was so sweet and told us to bring him in. The girls who came to do his parvo test were just as kind, as well as the gentleman that we walked inside with to fill out paperwork. The facility was very nice and didn't seem too loud which I appreciated for the other animals. We offered a donation and left with peace knowing that Walter (yes we named him in the short amount of time we had him) would be well taken care of.

Absolutely fantastic animal center! The staff is incredibly friendly and the animals are simply adorable! They have this “Trailblazer” program where anyone can sign some paperwork and check out a dog for the day to walk and play with (see picture for Bronson, a dog my girlfriend and I had for the day). You can also take most animals in the shelter in a private room and play with them as much as you want. This place is excellent for de-stressing, getting to know animals, dates, and an overall great time!

I wish you could have option for ZERO stars! EVERYONE I know has had a bad experience with them and says the same as I feel that you can't get anyone to come whether it's a dog in need or a dog that's out roaming the streets. Mckamey socks big time👎

Called the hotline. Someone hung up on first call immediately. On second call Kristy was rude and the opposite of helpful, upon matching her energy she turned it around and seemed to become helpful. The customer service was the equivalent of call the IRS.

Adopted our dog (pinwheel pam) who is now "zada." Absolutely the sweetest animal we've ever had the privilege to call ours. Remarkably patient with our children and continues to fill our home with joy everyday. We adopted her about 2 years ago and she is nothing short of a family member at this point.

The dog I adopted from here bit me and sent me to the hospital and ran off and a lady from the neighborhood tried to get him out of the street and he bit her too. My daughter put him outside because i went out of town and he tried to bite her. Then they were called about him being outside and they came to get him and had me charged with animal cruelty and neglect. As long as me or my children won’t be bitten again i am happy!

I would give zero stars if I could. The staff is nice enough if you can get a hold of them, but I had to call their emergency line every hour for 5 hours in order to talk to someone on Monday. This is after I've called every extention, leaving voice mails and texts and having emailed all three emails listed on their website (still no response to any of them today too). And unfortunately, I was calling about a pitbull having attacked another dog (for the second time). McKamey had already taken this same Pitbull away for charging at pedestrians while off leash with no owner to be found. We called the police that time because no one at animal control answers the phone, but then the police get mad if you don't call animal control.McKamey also refuses to do anything about these Pitbull attacks besides a "court date for the owner" because the owner won't willingly give up his Pitbull. How can the law allow an aggressive dog to attack it's neighbors multiple times and charge at pedestrians with zero consequences? I sure hope he doesn't attack me or a small child in the time it takes to finally get this aggressive animal placed elsewhere. The picture is the aftermath of the second attack and the Pitbull still gets to remain with his current owner who has allowed this to happen multiple times...
