I was in need of a boarding kennel for my FBL. I called Mike last minute and he was super friendly, concerned about my last minute situation, willing to work with me and agreed to take my pup. We are thrilled with our little yellow lab, Jazzy. My brother and I each got one of the girls from this litter. We simply can't believe how beautiful and how seriously smart they are. In just a few weeks, Jazzy can use a leash very well and knows many tricks, almost there with potty training and staying calm in her kennel. Most of all we both recognized the love and care that Mike Musick has for all of his dogs. He is very careful to put his puppies in wonderful homes, wants to know who is buying them, what the living conditions are for them to have a happy life, and makes sure the buyers know how to raise a puppy. Mike even texted me after a weeks to check in to see how everything was going....giving me another opportunity to get some tips from him. His kennels and property are awesome and very well kept. Mike spends a great deal of time going over details (even with a thorough checklist), provides a chip for the next vet visit, has the puppies bathed and ready for pickup. Even after having dogs for years, I learned so much from Mike to ensure we got off to the right start. The tips Mike gave me totally worked. We will certainly utilize his dog training as needed, even though Jazzy won't be a hunting dog. Mike is highly recognized for his dog training for hunting yet will also provide training for obedience. My brother, Dwight, and I just can't tell you how impressed we were with the thoroughness and professionalism that Mike Musick shows with his lab kennels. Mike is a true dog lover like us.

We decided long before we actually had a hunting dog that we would be getting a Labrador retriever from Mike at SoDak Labradors & Gundog Kennels when the time came. In a nutshell, that decision was based on my experience hunting alongside Mike's personal Labs on several occasions and noting their great temperaments and hunting abilities. When Mike told me that he has the parents of his pups DNA checked for possible problems before breeding, that further solidified my feeling we were working with the right person. We were very happy when we got the call that "Misty", one of my favorite of Mike's dogs, was going to have a litter. Mike helped us pick the perfect pup based on size, energy, and how we intended to house her. I kept track of the how the puppies were doing weekly, and even visited them several times before weaning, and all I can say is Mike goes above and beyond to make sure his pups get the best care before going to their forever homes. We now have a sweetheart of a black lab named "Bella", who has caught on super quick to her obedience training. Of course, she naturally loves to retrieve, and we are super excited for her upcoming bird and gun introduction training that was included in the price of our puppy . I’m rating 5 stars because that’s exactly what Sodak kennels deserves. I took my German shorthair pointer “Ellie” there because she was gun shy and didn’t have much bird drive. Mike had a good plan from the start on how to approach Ellie to build good bird drive then work towards the gun. He is very knowledgeable about hunting dogs. The kennels are very nice and clean. Big fenced in yard for the dogs to exercise and retrieve. Great area to plant birds and work with the dog. When I picked Ellie up after her training period was able to go down and watch her work the area and point birds. Mike did a great job and I can’t wait to take Ellie out opening weekend!

Mike has extremely well bred dogs and a fantastic training program for them. We got a puppy, Molly, from Mike 10 years ago, after hunting with the puppy's mother, Coal. Coal was a fantastic hunter, well mannered, calm and an excellent all-around dog. We wanted a dog just like her, and are 100% satisfied with with Molly. Mike trained Molly and also handled her in HRC hunt tests earning titles in Started and Seasoned. Mike is a highly skilled yet gentle and patient trainer. He understands how to work with each dog and their individual needs, and we have seen fantastic results not only in our dog, but all of the dogs he trains. He loves the dogs and his goal is to make them not only excellent hunters but also excellent family members. He also helped us to be good owners and handlers of Molly.We returned to Mike looking for another puppy, and waited for a litter. We now have Emma, a well mannered, calm pup. At 13 weeks she is retrieving and on her way to becoming an excellent gundog! We are anxious for Mike to train her as well. We highly recommend you use Mike for your training needs. First big multi-day hunt in the books for my Chocolate Lab Sansa. I can not emphasize how proud I am of her. She is only about 8 1/2 months old and she stayed focused, diligent and had the time of her life. I may be biased but I think she out-hunted dogs 4 times her age with way more experience. I couldn't have done it without Mike and Sodak Labs. Mike is the best trainer I've ever met. You won't meet a nicer man, or a better trainer. If you are looking for a top notch hunter, and/or a wonderful companion that cuddles with you in the front seat on the ride home, you need to contact Mike today! Many trainers are harsh on dogs, breaking their spirit to submission. Mike is completely different. He works with your specific dog to foster their unique personalities to use them to their advantage in the field and at home. We picked Sansa out of the litter because she was playful and bold. She takes that with her in the field being the first to the bird and being athletic in the pursuit. At home she can't get enough belly scratches, and loves playing fetch and going for runs. Mike has trained my dog and successfully taken her through a number of HRC tests. I have been very happy with the training my dog has received and how she hunts both upland game and waterfowl. I have hunted with Mike and dogs he has trained. I am always impressed with how his dogs work and how he cares for them. My dog is always excited to visit Mike and his kennel as well.

Mike has now trained four of our dogs over the years. He is very knowledgeable and patient with the dogs he works with. Our current dog, Roin , an Irish Water Spaniel, was a major challenge. He taught both Roin and I how to be able to work both on and off leash and has made a compete turnaround in the behavior of our dog. I only wish we would have allowed Mike to work with him earlier, he is currently just short of two years. We have tried many other obedience classes, but none compare to Mike's. He is proficient in willingfully and happily teaching your dog his obedience commands, rather than by forcing him to do them. Mike took a lot of time training me how to work with Roin with his newly acquired skills and answering any questions that I had. His training of proper obedience and e-collar training for those emergency times that you may need it to save the life of your dog from getting hit from a car or from getting lost or stolen, that is if you do not hunt with your dog are invaluable. He has helped transform our dog to a much more relaxed, pleasant dog to live with in our urban environment and also I will be able to feel relaxed and confident that he will able to run and enjoy our place in western South Dakota without becoming lost.He has also provided me with the tools to help correct the nasty habits that he has developed.

Called to get my dog scheduled months ago, Mike wasn’t quite sure when he could get my dog in but I was “on the list”. Called months later to check “on the list” still wasn’t sure when he could get my dog in. Haven’t heard from him since. Disappointing because he was fairly close to home

Mike broke my dog of being gun shy. He is very patient with the dogs. He also has a great place to work with the dogs and really builds up the bird drive. I would recommend!!
