It's always sad going to a animal shelter...but we lost our lab recently and wanted to find a new fur babie so we went to check it out. Everyone was very nice there. Lots of pups to choose from not many cats. We did come home with a super cute 5 months old puppy!

Adopted my dog Louie from here a few weeks ago. They had quite a few older dogs as well. For me, it was about finding the big dog that was calm and could deal with smaller dogs. Louie and my miniature schnauzer chihuahua, Poppa connected almost instantaneously. Definitely had to house train him and coached him out a lot of fears he had. But now he is almost perfect & the other grew to love him as well and he is very protective of them.Process was very easy and straight forward. There's always special deals going on for the older dogs (Puppies are always $300) spayed & neutered. If you're looking to for a new pup or adding one to the family please check here and rescue one of these intelligent animals.

I had a wonderful experience adopting my dog from Dorchester Paws and highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for a new furry friend! The young ladies who work at the front desk were extremely kind and took the time to chat with me and recommend the right dog for my lifestyle. I was able to meet a few dogs and they gave me plenty of time to ask questions and make my final decision.I participated in their “foster to adopt” program that allows you to take the dog/cat home and effectively foster them for a week or two before finalizing the adoption. I appreciated this because I have other animals at home and needed to make sure everybody got along. The staff was responsive to email during this time and it was easy to finalize the adoption and access medical records virtually.I have nothing but good things to say about Dorchester Paws and I think they are a great place to go if you are looking for a new pet. I visited a few other shelters in the Charleston area and had the best experience with them by far.

I visited Dorchester Paws recently for the first time. They have such a great program . I was so impressed with the cleanliness, their compassion for the dogs. We were welcome to tour the grounds and ask questions if we saw a dog that caught our eye. There is such a huge demand for dealing with pets who have been abandoned or lost. Dorchester Paws is really doing an amazing job.

Staff was extremely pleasant and happy to help. Seemed very glad to accept our donations, including unopened Glycobalance Canned Cat Food for diabetic cats.

We adopted an 11 month old female dog from Dorchester Paws a month ago and she is amazing. We already had a 3 month old male Dalmatian puppy and we’re set on getting a female dog who was a few months older than him and could keep up with his energy level and they certainly delivered. The staff does meet and greets with your dog and the dog you picked out to ensure that they get along. Beretta (Evee is what they called her) is the sweetest, most loving dog ever who never leaves your side. When she gets excited her entire body wiggles.

Went in and waited for one of the girls upfront to finish helping someone. The other girl in the front was on a computer… they both made eye contact but didn’t say a word to me. I patiently waited because I assumed the girl on the computer was busy and didn’t want to interrupt her. As soon as the first girl was done helping an older gentleman, a younger guy walks in and they both hurried to ask if he needed any help. I’m new to the state and times are hard… I was hoping to get a little dog food for a few days until my paycheck dropped. I’ve never needed help with dog food or pet supplies. And was extremely embarrassed and nervous being there but it was a last option. The one time I really needed … just a little bag for a few days they wouldn’t help because I’m not a resident of the county. I understand they have policies but to turn away someone truly in need.. they should be ashamed. I seen bags on bags on bags of food in the room next to the main office. It’s sad because I really needed it.

Brought an extremely malnutrition hunting dog home after finding it wandering. Fed it, made sure it was safe and called animal control. Animal control then brought the dog over to PAWS. Went to the facility to find out the well-being of the dog, only to find out it had been given back to the owner and the environment it came from...SMH

I love Dorchester Paws. All my pups have come from them. Staff is friendly and welcoming to volunteers. You can pick your task. Clean, organize, take a dog on a much needed walk, or just spend time playing with a dog or a puppy, and nothing beats puppy breath! Foster program is great. I've gotten to help a few dogs find their fur-ever homes.

Disgusting shelter that lacks empathy. I have a stray cat at my complex that I’ve given food to because he was starving recently I noticed his eye is either swollen shut or completely gone I called and asked them if I could bring him in became he’s friendly enough to be adopted and they told me that once I start feeding him he’s my cat?? And told me they could recommend me a vet so that I could pay for his treatment?? You should be ashamed of yourselves for denying an animal in need treatment and expecting random people to do your job for you. I will never recommend anyone to support your “shelter”

My family got greeted upon walking in. We said we were interested in possibly adopting 2 cats. Employee said they're to the right and left. So, we explored.Meeting the cats via paw touch through the 4x4 cage, petting ears, getting hissed at, pawed at..We fell in love with a brother and sister set.We requested to hold them and fill out an application. It was approved, I was asked about some bloodtests, they were negative. They are neuered and spayed, vaccinated, litter trained, microchippedAdorable, great with my kids, playful, happy!I prepared my children before we came to the adoption center, what we MAY expect....it went well. The only thing I would suggest is....send the parents of the new furbabies some sort of what to expect.I knew we had to get a carrier to bring them home. But I had no idea what to do after they got home, besides a litter box, food and water.I was Like....now, should I place them in a small room while they sleep to get the idea of a heater/ac running?....the knowledge of being able to roam freely.🤷‍♀️ I was not sure....so they just tookover my livingroom.🤣It's all good though. They are a hoot! I hope to adopt again. And I live the satisfaction of helping Dorchester paws and these little ones.

Dorchester Paws is great. The whole staff is wonderful and they truly care about their animals. I’ve adopted a dog and two kittens and I couldn’t be happier with the experience at Dorchester Paws. I also volunteer at the shelter and it is run very well and everyone there goes above and beyond to provide the best possible experience for the animals in their care.

We fostered a kitten and a puppy for the storm and the staff made the process so easy. We have now adopted our new kitten Ozzy and my stepbrother adopted our puppy. It could not have worked out better.

Got my sweet kitty named Scotch from here! It was super easy to adopt! They gave us a voucher for his first vet visit to a few places. They gave us some medication he was taking at the time. He was neutered at this location. Dorchester told us he was 2 year old but the vet said he was actually 10-12 months HAHA but anyways very happy with our kitty 💕

We initially fostered then later adopted our pitbull mix, Winter, from Dorchester Paws in 2020. I can't say enough nice things about Mollie and her team. Everyone we ran into during any step of this process was genuine and caring. DP is a wonderful place to find a pet to give a forever home to.

We got a very cute kitty here. She was sick with a respiratory infection and immediately had a few hundred dollars worth of vet bills, but it was worth every penny, we love her!

I am asking for donations to Dorchester Paws for my birthday on Facebook and in loving memory of Scruffy, the old ferral cat that they helped me with. If you have it in your heart, please make a small donation in honor of Scruffy and all ferral and homeless animals that are in need of help. Scruffies story as follows : I took a old ferral cat there in hopes that the vet could fix his foot. This cat was extremely ferral, so I had to trap him to take him there. The huge abscess bursted while he was trying to escape from the trap, it was so awful 😥 I asked if I could get him back because I had two more ferrals and they were one big family. When we got home the vet had left a message on our machine to call her back. She said the cat had a autoimmune disease and would require treatment the rest of his life. That would be hard for me to do with him being ferral and terrified of humans. As much as it hurt me I made the choice to have him euthanized, he didn't need to suffer in pain anymore. Now I know why he would walk so far out in our field and then lay down. He was in pain and resting his feet 😭. I know the other two ferrals miss him, and one of them was calling out to him the 2nd night he was gone.In

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE!! My mom had a very young kitten dropped off on her porch and she took him in to dorchester paws. The lady that helped my mom fill out paperwork told her he was around 4 weeks old. My mom told the lady that she wants to adopt him when he is ready bc the only reason she took him in was bc he wasn't eating. They lady told my mom she will note the account and write on the form that she will be notified when he is ready and she will get first chance. My mom has called up there twice a week since then and made sure they still know she wants to adopt him when he is ready, they told her yes that is fine. She called today knowing he was almost 8 weeks old and asked if he is ready and if she can come pay his adoption fee. The lady told my mom yes come on in he is ready we close at 5. My mom told her she would be up there, then the lady put my mom on hold, came back and told my mom he just got adopted. My mom asked why did they allow that and the lady kept making excuses. My mom told her to please stop the adoption since it wasn't finalized yet and the lady refused then hung up on my mom. I have adopted 2 kittens from here but I will not again. I cant believe how they run this center. They are a bunch of liars and obviously don't care about the animals. There are plenty of other places to go. Don't give this place your money or your business. All they do is lie. I hope u all feel ashamed. My mom is very upset bc she loved that kitten. And to the family that adopted him, his name was Abel at the center, I hope u enjoy him and take care of him bc he would have been very loved by my mom but he was ripped out of her hands.

Dorchester pause is my life saver. They are my salvation. When my children were gone for 3 to 4 months. And I had to pin down somebody to help me. And I had nobody to help me with 2 dogs. 3 dogs in a cat since then. I've given one dog to the Berkeley County animal shelter. But she should no charge me $25. Cause I begged her, I didn't have it and another thing. I just lost the cat. Our male cat just died pretty quickly. He wasn't paying but everybody has been so good to help me with everything. That I have as helpful. They help me with food. Everything for these animals well except one little thing, the tablet to kill fleas. I wished that the animal shelters could help with bombs. So we can bomb the houses to get rid of fleas. Cause oh my God, my son's room is infested. I mean fested so bad where the cat was. And so I know those tablets. If they get in their bloodstream. It'll killum and I need to bomb my house. 3 or 4 times they really feel get rid of these fleas. But I just thank God that I. I enjoy going to Dorchester pause for many reasons. One is I can look through the wheelbarrow and sifters anything that I could use or need for the animals and it's just a blessing. I mean you, I am just overwhelmed with appreciation if you only knew I was scared in the beginning, how am I going with my income? How am I going to afford to take care of these animals, I can't do it and I don't wanna lose tiny and I don't wanna lose Layla but I can't deal with this please. I can't deal with the fact that I don't have the money to buy food. You'd be surprised. Dog food is extremely high and so is cat food and especially cat litter. And they even give me toys to give me bowls. They give me some Alicia's. It's just amazing. I love them. It's it's pretty bad that Brooklyn Berkeley. Animal shelter would not help me like these people. This place needs to be recommended to everybody and they're awesome. Some everyone have a deserved races from the front door to the back they deserve races. They are very friendly and they're very nice. And I could say more need. I say more. Have a blessed day. Thank you bye bye my name is donna thank you god bless

Update: We adopted Eva, a 3 year old female pit bully mix 5 months ago. Her 1st three years of life were in a horrible hoarding situation. She is now living her best life! She loves her morning 1+mi walk, is now comfortable in so many situations she didn't even know existed, stairs are a norm now, has bonded very well with us AND our 12 lb, 13 year old male. Loves our neighbors! She has come a long way. It just takes love, patience, praise, hugs and Repeat! Thank you Dorchester Paws!
