I’m going to share a quilters secret- this place is a Diamond! They have FABRIC at amazing prices! NO one to cut it- but they have it there! I waited for 20 minutes and asked 4 different people. NO one ever showed up. So I couldn’t buy any fabric, but it was fun to see I guess!Got some semi hard and old chicken tenders for the road, deli was eclectic, help was friendly corn dog was rubbery, but sufficient for road food.Thankful for the store being open. Maybe next time I will get to adopt some fabric, not just pet it and wish!

Nice, friendly staff. Grabbed a couple fresh donuts from the bakery. Holy cow...that was the thickest maple bar I have ever had in my life! I'm regretting buying 2. I may not need to eat until tomorrow. If you're looking for light and fluffy donuts, do not buy the maple bar lol

Prices are still way to high but it was awesome same great people down side they dissided people can't hang out for a tiny town they should set up hang out spot instead of making everyone go to bars

It’s a great market. Lot’s of items and clothing. As a tourist, I bought some John Day shirts here. The guy at the register was friendly and helped us out with some great hotspots in the area and how to drive. Gave tips about local restaurants too. Lot’s of parking options, plenty of free parking spaces. Would be cool if they would sell 1188 brewery beers too in the future.

Stopped here on an overnight stay. Huge grocery!!! Seemed to have just about everything and also an attached variety store. We loved this place. The variety store was very nostalgic for us .

I live in the Hermiston area,and was coming to John Day to celebrate my moms 75th birthday. I didnt want to travel with a cake so I called chesters to order her cake! The lady i called and talked to,we discussed a half sheet cake.I wanted pink roses,she suggested that we could do pastel roses on the cake! Sounded great,so I placed my order! Went to pick the cake up Saturday. Not one pink rose on the cake,actually there were no roses on the cake at all! I was not happy at all,but at this point i had no other options,so i had to take the cake! We to the register to pay and the cake was $80!! $80 for a cake that looked like a 3rd grader threw together! If i would have had any other options i most defintly would not have purchased this cake! What a dissapointment!! I think if you are going to charge $80 for a cake it should at least be what I asked for! Maybe your decorator needs some training! I would never reccomend this place for a celebration cake!Edit: The cake was absolutely horrible,dry like it was frozen for way to long! The frosting was dry and slightly crunchy! Should be ashamed to sell this garbage for $80!! Absolutely ridicules!

Chester's is a great supporter of kids and kids activities. My daughter has been able to set up her bake sale fundraiser multiple times in order to reach her goal for her senior project. Thanks for all you do for kids.

I have never been treated so rudely as we were today at your store by a supervisor. He honestly said the customers inside was more important than a 71 year old waiting for help at the cans for over half hour in the heat of the day. I had just spent $144 so I guess we only half count. As much as we can we will shop elsewhere!

The prices can be a bit crazy at Chester's. They normally have a good selection of most items. Produce is normally good quality. We normally only come here if Dollar General doesn't stock the items we need.

Typical small town grocery store. They have a large selection of everything you could need. Hot deli and bakery. 3 kinds of ice. They also sell alcohol and general merchandise. Basically they have it all here.

It's the only major grocery store in the county so we don't have much choice. Their prices are very high so you should probably bring your own food and tp. The checkers and stock persons are friendly and helpful.

Good variety . Prices are expected for rural oregon . Staff is always friendly and nice . The store has attached wing with many items from hiking boots , kids toys , pillows , rugs , art supplies , anything you need . There’s a liquor store in Chesters as well . Great small town feel

I'm a local and work nearby . I get food out of the Deli on a regular basis. This time I bought a pre portioned meal at 1:00pm from the deli. Today for whatever reason it was sold cold this time. When I got to work and took the lid off to microwave I noticed they had put a new sticker with current date over the old one that was expired. I will no longer purchase food from your deli as I can no longer feel safe eating the food.

Super friendly employees. Made shopping easy and store is clean. Has clothes for everybody, had household goods, had just about everything would need when visiting John Day. Would definitely recommend stopping in and checking it out.

We’ll Chester’s is the only game in town when it comes to groceries - that being said Chester’s was full service and friendly. From ice and booze, to pre cooked food - this is your local full service grocery store serving the John Day, Oregon area. Prices are a bit higher than I am used to in Vancouver, Washington, but understandable give the extra freight and delivery charges. We bought food and Ice here and could not be more pleased.

Very nice and helpful people. Prices are a little higher than I'm used to. However, much better than driving 150 miles or so!
