I wish I could give negative stars. This place was given court ordered proof that someone was not suppose to have animals due to abuse.. They are all about the $ not the dogs. They signed that dog's death certificate.

I adopted my dog Bruno from there over 4 years ago. The only con about this place, the price to adopt, is way too high .

I love that volunteers come & walk the dogs. They have a nice facility for animals waiting to be adopted & maybe no foster home to care for them.

This company is by far the worst to work with. My dog who was 4 months old got out of our fenced yard (she’s deaf) couldn’t find her and when we did they chose to foster her and not release her back to her family of 3 boys who dearly miss her. They steal your dog and resale them. It’s a market. Not family or happy shelter to help one’s find their missing animals. I would post on fb and take care of these lost animals before taking them to the shelter as all they want is to profit.

I've been applying for dogs for months and either they get adopted or the rescue flat out ignores me. At least they were polite enough to let me know. But after this last application I'm done trying to adopt dogs from small picky rescues. Buying a dog from a breeder is so much easier to do then try to rescue a dog these days.

We recently adopted a puppy from them and enjoyed our experience! They were prompt with responses and transparent about expectations for their animals and health conditions. We love our little pup!

I need a dog SO BAD!!! MY 12 YR GOLDEN had a stoke she did not make it. I am a retired Delta Captain and am not to picky would love a dog with all that I have. I heard this house of protection really loves dogs and thought I would try here. I Have found nothing in Portland that did not have personalitie issues.. I can travel so could come get them. 3 adults in family. Mom sis and me. No kids and no animals. Would consider bonded pair. AcreAcre

Christie is a wonderful person to work with while looking at adoptions and going through the process. Her patience, positive attitude and skill set with dogs and people are admirable to say the least. This is a wonderful, caring facility with great people.

I love what I see. A personal Facebook referred me to you so that I could fill this void in my heart. I lost my dog 8 months ago and they heard my story and saw my videos and they referred me to you so on that gesture I give you a five-star rating

Loved my experience here with Mike, an Adoption Coordinator. He walked us through each step and was so nice and caring. We love our little Chiweenie pooch whom we rescued here! 🐶

Got my Bella, after losing my previous dog, at only 3 years old, from a horrible disease (she was also a Bella...). I'm disabled, she's learning to be my service dog, don't know what I'd do without her!

Compassionate and professional. So many lucky dogs get a chance at a great life here.

One of the main "Volunteer" Staff members here (a woman, not sure of her name) is very rude, demeaning and condescending and had no problem treating myself and my GF like trash because we needed to find a new home for our dog which we had for one year. She even felt it was ok to scream at us across the parking lot at us while we were leaving, saying: "FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU@@@@@@######## YYYYYYOOOUUUU!!!!! Don't ever think about adopting a dog from us again!!!!!!! Mind you, the dog we asked for their help in finding a new home for we did not get from this facility but I had gotten a dog from them about 9 years previous to this encounter with them and he was a blessing to have but eventually passed away from diabetes complications. Had I known asking for their help would have entailed the kind of treatment we endured when we arrived their, I would have found a healthier place to have taken my dog, with healthier people associated with it but there was no way I could have no, and no indication until we arrived. I did post the experience on the Hood river Adopt a Dog FB page and promptly the next morning a reply was written from the same lady we encountered during our experience there essentially calling me a liar in a very sweet way and saying things that were untrue and a lot of verbal character assassination aimed to discredit anything I had said, both my review and the adopt a dog response remained on the adopt a dog FB page for a week and a half until about a week and a half latter my GF read the adopt a dog response to my review and found it very unsettling so my GF left a comment as well asserting that this woman had lied and was very rude and mean as well as cursing at us. Then immediately after my GF posted her comment being a second witness to my initial review and explanation of the treatment we received, my review was then deleted along with all comments including their own (from the Adopt a Dog woman) from the FB page and the two of us blocked from being able to see or read reviews leave comments, except on other people posts to that FB page.

This is a top quality place with people who genuinely LOVE animals. The dogs are treated with love and care, and the staff is wonderful to deal with.

I volunteered here for 3 years as a foster dog home. Doggies are number one and it is a no kill shelter.
