For the love of God, PLEASE do your research about this place and DO NOT SUPPORT BUYING FROM HERE!!!!! Do the owners not know how to clean anything? Came in just as they opened and was welcomed with a pungent poop smell. After walking down the aisle, you'll find birds, rabbits, and more, SHOVED into tiny cages that look as if they haven't been cleaned for a century. This is abuse. 1 cheap, grimy, rusty cage with 15 conures in it?! The birds did not have ANY access to fresh water, as too many birds in a small cage cause it to become contaminated quickly. The bottom of their cages had mounds of seed piling up as if they haven't bothered cleaning the bottoms of the cages, either. They also shove quakers and conures in the same tiny cheap cages that are very uncleaned and with barely any water.Now...the poor rabbits? I saw 8 of them in a cage even smaller than the birds. They all looked very sickly, malnourished or about to PASS THE BRIDGE!!!! I'm going to file a report to this business for inhumane breeding conditions, abuse, and straight out unsafe environments for animals. This made me so furious that I left and didn't even pick up what I was looking for (dog treats), I didn't even have the heart to check out the poor amphibians. I would never support a shop like this one. You would be better off supporting someone else.PLEASE DO A BETTER JOB CLEANING YOUR ANIMALS HABITATS!

I came to this store a few weeks ago and when I first walked it I was extremely surprised by the fact that these little pet stores are still allowed to sell puppies. The first enclosure at the front of the store where the puppies were was disgusting. You could see that the puppies were not being taken care of well. I move to the back of the store where the rest of the puppies were playing. I kept seeing people go in and out of the play area not washing their hands or putting on hand sanitizer before touching the puppies. You could clearly tell that the puppies were from puppy mills and many of them were sick. One of them had an eye infection and was extremely low energy. The play area was disgusting. You could clearly tell that it had not been cleaned in a while. The bird enclosures were just as bad. I saw a group of birds in one of the smallest enclosures I have ever seen birds live in. They were all at the bottom of the enclosed probably because they had no room to fly. You could tell that they were extremely stressed because of their feathers. This is the worst pet store I have ever been to. I do not understand how this store is still in business. The owner should reflect on these reviews because I have seen multiple people with the same issues that I witnessed and the owner seems to come off as very defensive. If multiple people are telling you there is an issue with you business there probably is. Do better.Edit: I do not work at Subway nor do I live in Brookings. I was visiting a few weeks ago so I do not know how many puppies you have currently but a few weeks ago you had about 8. Thank you for your response because it really shows what kind of person you are. I didnāt take many photos but I took these.

Update August 2023: Bunyan turned 2 years old this past May! She is doing fabulous and is very healthy. She was spayed few months ago and healed up well and she also received all of her vaccines since she travels a lot with us. She comes on all of our vacations and loves the plane rides and hotel rooms. She's been an amazing addition to our family:) I just wanted to thank you guys for giving us the opportunity to meet and bring home our wild and crazy Bunyan šš šMy family and I were searching for a Lionhead bunny. I had a Chinchilla Rabbit for almost 10 years but he passed away due to old age.I know a lot about how to care for bunnies. We checked all of the animal shelters for bunnies, but couldn't find any bunnies in Southern Oregon that were available for adoption. We decided to try our luck at Carson's Critters. We read the good and bad reviews, but ultimately decided to go and see for ourselves (living in a small rural area, you come to understand that it is a breeding ground for rumors and false claims, so don't believe everything you hear!)Upon entering the shop, we saw clean, happy and healthy kittens and puppies. The store was clean and staff was playing with the pets. One staff member was even cuddling a tiny bunny when we walked in! We ended up purchasing the tiny Lionhead Bunny. Staff was informative and kind. They had puppies running around the store and playing freely in play pens. The reviews we read were completely false. I am a huge animal lover, so I have high expectations of the moral treatment of animals. We now have a new furry addition to our family! Our bunny is lively, happy, and healthy! Thank you, Carson's Critters for introducing us to our new baby!:)

This place smells awful. First thing that hits you as you walk in is the oder of rodents and dogs. There are flys everywhere and the animal living conditions are quite bad. The store is dusty and grimy.I do like the fact that there is such a store local on our tiny town, but I wish it was better looked after. This store really could be an amazing thing with the proper care.

I went in here looking for a filter for my tadpole setup and as a former vet tech of 16 years: HOLY PERSONAL 7th LAYER OF 9-LAYERED HELL! When I first walked in, I noticed a bunch of toy/small breed puppies in what looked like a ferret-type display cage. Immediate thought: WOW, a pet store that still sells puppymill puppies (BECAUSE NO REPUTABLE BREEDER WILL EVER SELL PUPPIES TO A PET STORE! NATIONAL CLUBS, BREED CLUBS, PARENT CLUBS PROHIBIT MEMEMBERS FROM DOING SO). A desperate backyard breeder/greeder might unload some puppies to a pet store, but that's the best you're gonna get and even then... ugh. Then I noticed the smell... it wasn't the worst, but it was bad enough to take me back to my vet tech days... In a back corner I found the reptile/amphibian section and I was utterly appalled. The cages were abysmal. This is not what exotic animal husbandry looks like. At all. Parched substrate, no temp/humidity gauges. No gradient heating for reptiles. Overhead heating for amphibian... Yikes. Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos, and a Pacman Frog... all very hardy species, but still. The most vulnerable--having worked for several exotics vets--was the Pacman frog. A tropical species requiring 75-85 degrees and 50-80% humidity, without proper gauges, impossible to maintain. No damp substrate for burrowing. While hardy and able to go into estivation for survival, young Pacman frogs aren't as likely to survive. And to make things even worse for the frog, it appeared (which you'll see in the photo) that what water was in the dish spilled, quickly being soaked up by the bone dry substrate, never allowing the frog a chance to soak. Pathetic. I debated buying the frog because I HATE supporting anyone who would treat an animal so poorly. In my book, this was abuse. Basic tenets: food, water, shelter were not being met. And anyone who thinks: but it's just a frog... well, lemme tell you buddy, if corners are cut here, I'm sure they're cut elsewhere. I seriously stood in the back of that store for several minutes debating about buying the frog, or leaving and making a break for it. I bought the frog. I couldn't leave it behind. I bought a few additional supplies, and as I walked up to the counter, I entered mental fog soup when I noticed all the other puppies there. Including my beloved Doberman breed. A Dobe, Boxer, Weimaraner, Huskies, maybe another hound like a GSP, more small breed puppies in a large pen. There were so. many. puppies... taking care of ONE puppy at this age is hard enough. Their mental, physical, emotional growth from 8-16 weeks (assuming none of them were younger than 8 weeks) is so integral to their overall development. Large breed, high energy puppies need so much! Even small breed puppies need tons of socialization and stimulation to various sights, sounds, smells (WAY beyond what a pet store can offer...) When I checked out, the lady behind the counter mentioned getting in Dumpy Treefrogs... another hardy species of frog but seriously... seriously... unless Carson's Critters is committed to improving husbandry standards by 150%-200%, please don't get any more exotics... I wish the selling of puppies would stop too, but I suspect that's a plea that will be entirely ignored. I think it would be phenomenal if Carson's Critters stopped selling puppies entirely (partner with South Coast and hold puppy/kitten adoption events instead!) And if committed to improving husbandry standards by at least 150% maybe turn into an actual exotics/pocket-pets pet store. We also need an aquarium store in town. Encourage proper husbandry, vivarium building, and aquascaping.*Edit to ownerās response: I have ZERO affiliation with the shelter. I absolutely DID NOT ask you to order me a frog. You also had a min pin, a few small spitz (Pom, Am. Esk.), frenchies or something small and brachycephalic. Didnāt look too hard ācause I didnāt want to see more. I made small talk to TRY to be polite, there was a lot to unpack. This is my real name.*

The parents of the person who stole from you blocked you because they'd rather deal with the police then the likes of someone who talks down to peopleOf course people have the right to choose where they get their animals but with the amount of animals who need homes it's just sad, so don't assume so much honeyMa'am you have followers who have contacted me talking bad about my children and calling me names, and yes I spelled adopt wrong which is okay because I'm dyslexic āØļøIt's funny how you post about me on your page but also have my blockedYou delete any comments that make you look bad and you only address people when you feel attackedI have been in contact with the people who stole from you and they have paid you back from what I understand. It's clear you were upset that the parents didn't want to interact with you and you threw a fit because they would rather handle things a tasteful way rather then drag things outAnyway have an amazing day sweetheart , I figured since you posted a screen shot of this you brought an Audience to your Google reviews. So now, when people look at the post you made on Facebook. They can hop up on to google and see my edited reviewThis owner slanders under age children on Facebook and then blocks people who call her outThere's a way to handle situations in a small town and posting about it on Facebook when it comes to under age children in not itNot to mention that brookings has humane society filled with dogs that need homesIf you want a pup go adabt

I went to Carson's for the first time ever and can I say that the staff are amazing and are willing to accommodate my special request for my daughters Christmas gift this year. This is very helpful because there is no way to hide this gift. I feel for being a small pet shop the animals all have clean bedding water and plenty of food. I am getting a little hampster for my daughter and the ones I saw looked healthy and the staff member that helped me was very knowledgeable. The puppies had clean bedding, food, and water. I will definitely be back to buy this hampster with Carson's and appreciate all the help in advance.

I NEVER LEAVE REVIEWS, BUT ANY WAY I CAN HELP TO EXPOSE THIS PLACE MADE ME FEEL THE NEED TO WRITE THIS. Came in here while on a coastal vacation with friends. I had seen this store on Facebook (since brookings had few attractions) and we were excited to check out the animals. This was months ago, and the thought of this store still haunts me. Disgusting conditions. Those poor conures in cages that could hardly be considered large enough to house multiple parakeets. EVERY animal section was heartbreaking. I even thought that MAYBE I was being a tad picky, because I was the live animal caretaker and manager for a large pet store for years. But upon leaving, my friends were also horrified by the conditions of that store. Without asking, they shared how they felt as soon as we walked out of that store. The woman there was pushy with selling the puppies when we commented on how cute they were. So friendly when she wants money, but i now have read how unstable this woman is. The Facebook rants are unbelievable. After reading those, it pairs perfectly with the many comments i have read in her reviews of how nasty and unprofessional she is towards her customers. Now that I have read comments here and have taken a closer look at their Facebook, I see that I should've saved myself from experiencing such horror of abuse and neglect. I pray this place gets shut down. Shame on oregon for allowing this to go on. Those poor, poor animals. This place is a shop of nightmares.

OK NOW LISTEN, ALL YOU NPCs giving 5 star reviews need to get off someoneās D AND REALIZE that this store needs shut down, animals abused all around, dogs were sick and birds all cramed into one cage, I get if you have low money levels but this is just not cool, if your low on money then DONT SELL ANIMALS!!!! And if this owner replies, I want you to know you deserve nothing but a choker chain and a bowl of dog food for the rest of your life

worst conditions iāve seen in any pet store by far. we came in and the kittens water dish was bone dry. multiple dogs were clearly sick. you can see in the picture the dogs diarrhea. none of the puppies are fully vaccinated and nutered. the owner was telling us about when puppies were killed in store by customers, and people dropping dogs on the ground. and when we asked about fostering, she explained that they only have people foster animals when they get too skinny, stop eating or become sick. she openly talked about how dogs have died there. donāt get me started on the hamsters. she aggressively hit the glass to scare them when they were FIGHTING. and most of the hamsters had scabs and open wounds. puppies were overpriced at $2900 and in poor conditions housed in their own waste. most of the water dishes where filled with wood chips and made it impossible for the puppies to drink. i would never buy from here. the store stinks.

The lady that runs this place was so rude to me and my family especially my 9 year old daughter. I was letting my daughter hold a puppy as she was trying to pick one so we could give it a forever home and she freaked out on us saying she canāt hold the dog. I asked her well how is she supposed to pick out the puppy she want if she can hold or interact with them? This is the worst place for animals and the poor reptiles⦠I felt really bad for the pythons that were there all in the same cage. Eventually she just said get out of my store and I replied with okay thatās fine I wonāt come back again. Ps I spend two thousand on a puppy that ended up having issues and I had to take her to the vet. Terrible lady she was!

Being lied to about the source and conditions of her animals is an insult. I don't care that she claims to love animals. Her shop is filthy and it stinks! But the lies are unforgivable and delivered with a smile. I keep hoping she will go out of business. I got my dogs at the shelter. Our local humane society shelter is a much better resource for dogs and cats. There are a few reputable breeders around and you can visit their kennels.

The shop owner will smile and tell you what you want to hear to make a sale but if you call her out on any lies or mislead information she provides, she will become aggravated. Very unprofessional responses to any criticism, major or minor. She will blame the buyer of any critters if health issues arise, even after two days of having said critter. I won't be surprised if I get hate from her for this review. I've bought from her before but never will again. It's truly sad. Please do some research into who you buy from.

We were visiting Brookings and googled puppies for sale. Carson's Critters appeared. We went by and the staff could not have been any friendlier and/or more helpful! We held a few puppies, but could not purchase one that day because we were staying in a hotel. We went back the next day and the puppy we wanted was still there. She had a sister and we did not want them separated so we bought 2! The staff went above and beyond and I cried when we left. The staff really cared about the puppies and us as new owners. I would highly recommend buying pets and/or supplies from this business. We love our puppies and could not be any happier!!

First of all all of the pups at Carson's Critters are worth getting. And it's a very fun experience playing with all the pups to find your perfect one. My husband and I picked out a pup two months ago and we are super happy with our decision and never looked back. That being said, we purchased a puppy that unbeknownst to us had giardia and coccidia. Both illnesses cause diarrhea. We have had our pup to the vet many times and 2 months later, and several hundred more dollars for vet expenses, I believe we have gotten him well. I did contact Carson's Critters and share the diagnosis. The pet store owner said it was likely the puppy's exposure to our home is what made him sick. We have no pets and we did not have him in any public places before seeing the vet. The insurance plan that comes with your pup does not cover parasites so none of the expenses for these illnesses are covered. The additional insurance policy I purchased at the time of puppy purchase doesn't cover preexisting conditions so there is no financial support for any of the vet costs. I did not have a good experience problem solving with the owner. I know she means well but customer service was definitely lacking. My interest in calling her was concern for the other pups given our pup's diagnosis. Unfortunately it turned into a difficult communication between us. My reason for writing this is to encourage ALL people who purchase a pet from this store to have the puppies fecal tested before purchase. Contact a local vet in Brookings before buying the pup. Taking this extra step may save you hundreds of dollars. This isn't an isolated incident. If you look through other postings to the FB page you will see that other puppies have been sick too. Again, these pups are all in need of wonderful homes like yours. Just be smart and have the pup's fecal tested before you make your final decision. Best of Luck!

Absolutely Amazing! Very cute dogs and cats. I went in there to check out the puppies, they were so adorable and healthy, I got a Dwarf hamster a few months ago and he was the best little guy ever! He was in good condition. I went back to check on the hamsters again a few days ago and they were so nice and pretty! I love this place. Will definitely go here everytime I want a new critter! Thank you. āŗļø

I had just gotten a MALE guinea pig from another pet store and my sister wanted one as well. My mother and sister went to Carson's Critters to buy a MALE guinea pig. They went to the store and went to the supposedly MALE section of the store for guinea pigs. The owner even reassured her that the guinea pig was in fact male. We introduced the guinea pigs and it was fine. However, 2 months later we noticed that the guinea pig from Carson's Critters was getting a little chubby. We figured it was because he was eating too much. Then next thing we know she gave birth and we ended up with four guinea pigs! Since we weren't experts on how to identify the genders of guinea pigs we didn't know she was a female. We were very wrong. I would not recommend buying pets from this store. The owner clearly doesn't know how to gender animals.

What a mess. I know it's a business but clean up and actually put these animals into better surroundings. I'm a local and we weren't impressed. I feel sorry for the reptiles and those puppies. Clean up your dutch bros, and focus on the animals
