Disappointing Experience with Adopted Kitten and Ringworm InfectionMy mother and I recently adopted a kitten from the Stark County Humane Society, hoping to give a loving home to a furry friend in need. Unfortunately, our experience has been far from what we expected.Shortly after bringing the kitten home, we discovered that it was infected with ringworm. This not only posed a health risk to the kitten but also led to both my son and me contracting the infection. Dealing with ringworm has been a challenging and unpleasant experience for our family. While we understand that shelter animals may come with health issues, we were disappointed by the lack of transparency regarding the kitten's condition. We expected the Humane Society to provide adequate care and ensure that the animals up for adoption are healthy and safe to bring into our homes. We have had to spend additional time and resources treating both the kitten and ourselves for ringworm, which has been a stressful and unexpected burden. We had hoped for a positive and rewarding adoption experience, but unfortunately, this situation has left us feeling frustrated and let down.In the future, we urge the Stark County Humane Society to be more thorough in screening animals for health issues before putting them up for adoption. Transparency and honesty about an animal's condition are crucial to ensuring the well-being of both the animals and the families looking to adopt them.Overall, our experience with the Stark County Humane Society has been disappointing, and we hope that improvements will be made to prevent similar situations in the future.

I called here on the afternoon of April 27th, thinking I would get some advice, and at the least, an animal lover willing to listen to my situation. I recently took "rescued" a dog living in neglect. A sorrowful boy. Immediately upon hearing that I took the dog and didn't call them for an investigation, she informed me that it is my responsibility and they have no interest in any kind of involvement. Said I should seek legal help. She was unwilling to listen to any details or circumstances, just repeated her canned response in quite a rude manner. When I tried again to ask a question, she put me on hold mid sentence without saying a word and never came back.Ohio Revised Code section 1717.13 clearly gives me the right to save this dog. She should read this. Furthermore, Steven Heaven, president of the Toledo Humane Society said in a January 2024 interview that if you do take it (a dog)it is advised that you bring it in so they can check to be sure it doesn't warrant further investigation.Again, the lady was terribly rude and unhelpful.... and interrupted me repeatedly. She is also incorrect and should be fired or at least taught how to treat people.I bet none of my pets would like her.I will send an email to the Ohio ASPCA, as well.

If you want your cat to actually survive long enough to get adopted, DO NOT bring them here!! Perfectly healthy cats get deathly ill here because of bad management & neglect to properly care for the cats! They put healthy cats in with sick cats & they all get sick & never recover. Their "vets" are a joke! They say they are a "no kill" facility, but THIS is how they kill!

Absolutely love this place and would adopt from them every time! I had some unfortunate luck with other shelters recently, but from the moment of calling and how sweet they were on the phone to how convenient and accommodating their hours are on top of the care and compassion they show their animals and their adopters. Some people look at this like a business but alls this wonderful staff wants is to get all their animals wonderful homes full of love. If I could give them 10 starts I would!

The people there were excellent. I called about a stray my wife had found on the road the night before. They advised us and encouraged us. The person who was going to pick up the pup even called different times to inform and guide us through the process. We could tell the people there love what they do and care for each animal that they cross paths with. We are certain 'Belcrest' will be under great care.

We got a cat there a 2 months ago. We took it back because it was peeing in my son's bed. We were told we could get another cat within 30 days..... every cat we were interested in on their website was either unavailable or at a pet store in Massillon.Drove there twice without getting a cat. Now I'm out my hundred dollars.Never again.

I think this is the closest to my heart. But some staff are rude. I give money 2 times a year they are in my will. I think they need to let the dogs have a day to adopt half-price . This is a lovely charity. Please adopt or foster or leave money to them in your will.. those furbabies really need a forever home. Handicap accessible please take donations of food toys litter they really need it. Your heart will be full.

I went to look for my wife's cat, who was gone a week. They were fast, helpful, and even posted a picture of our cat on their page to help find him. My wife was so happy! Thank you !

I have adopted 2 cats from here so far. I love them so much! They kept my older one in quarantine for an entire month to make sure he was healthy after a respiratory infection. I called every week to ask if he was better and they finally told me to come in and had me fill out the paperwork and sent me on my way. These are good people who care about animals.

The know it all woman all the way to the left of the office when you walk in, with short hair that sits at the computer has a nasty attitude at times. Should find a job that you actually like and stop making someone feel uncomfortable like she did the other day with me. Unprofessional and very rude. Will not be back.

no kittens, they send their kittens to Petsmart far away. So whenever they do that, there’s no kittens to adopt at the Humane Society here, you have to drive 100 miles where they send them. So how do I get a kitten in Canton Ohio from the Humane Society if they’re always sent out to Petsmart and not the Petsmart that is in Canton. Ridiculous.

Oh my gosh! What to say?! I adopted a 3 month kitten about a week ago - the decision was very hard. So many GREAT furry friends that need a good home. Wish I could’ve walked away with more than just one.The staff there was very friendly, informative, and, I felt, that genuinely appreciated that one of their fur babies was going to a new home.Please. If you’re thinking about getting another member of your family (in the form of a wonderful and needing feline or canine), please consider going to the Stark County Humane Society. There’s so many great lifelong friends with paws that you could meet.Thank you for reading my post and I hope, if you can, stop by there…you could just meet your next best buddy. 😊

My Service dog Buddy loves his 2 little sisters. Black and white is Tazzy. White and tiger is Sassy. Their large scratching post and covered litter pan is on its way. The young lady that helped us was great. Explained everything. Now 2 babies have a forever home, dog Buddy and lots of goodies. Thank you all for service you provide.

Adopted a new family member while there. So that kinda speaks for itself. Staff was friendly & caring. Clean facility. Helpful when I called with questions afterwards. Very reasonable fees for everything that was covered. Don't know how they do it. Blessings to the donors who allow them to function. Super happy & so is our dog who's been quite lonely since his best bud passed last year. It's early in the game, so to speak, but seems like a win-win all around.

Came in for a kitten, the worker showed us which ones were available (she was sweet and said she’d be right back after finishing an adoption), found one we liked and were bonding, waiting for the nice worker to come back. Then a family walked in saying they had already planned on getting it. No hold sign or nothing. Another worker walked over and ripped the paperwork off the cage right in front of us. No “sorry this cat isn’t available”, nothing! Very rude.

Amazing place. You can tell everyone has a big heart and really cares for these animals. We adopted two cats from the cat room that are somewhat bonded to each other. Before we left they made sure both had the vaccines they were overdue for! I really appreciated that. They made sure all the paperwork was perfect for us to take how. Really impressed. I will definitely choose the humane society for any other pets.

What a horrible place for animals to be in. They deserve so much better. This place receives so much money and it obviously isn't going towards the animals.People in charge obviously don't care and someone better definitely needs to come in and give these babies a proper shelter. I have been to many and volunteered at some on the other side of Ohio. I can't believe this shelter is still such a cruel dump. It is the only shelter that is difficult for me to go into.Where is all the money going? Maybe go to other shelters and get some ideas. Maybe resign because you definitely don't have any right being involved with animals! Disgusting and infuriating.

We adopted our girl Lady, now called Tillie. We got her at age 2 and now she's 9. We love her so much and what a quirky and wonderful personality she has. Everyone loves her! Thank you for our great girl. But I believe she picked us to be her family. She is so beautiful 😍💖

This is a great place to adopt a companion. These animals are fully vetted and the staff gives you as much information as they have about them. I highly recommend adopting from here, and if you can't adopt maybe consider volunteering or making a donation. Donations can be with money, food, toys etc.

We really enjoyed taking the Volunteer orientation class! This organization is just wonderful and take such wonderful care of the animals that are brought into their custody! Their are truly cared for and in fantastic health and are completely clean. We even had a joy of bathing a puppy while we were there, it was so much fun! The staff was amazing!!

Our cat got out and we thought he was gone forever for a few months, then one of my friends found him in the website. We went to go get him the next day with pictures of proof that he was ours. They made us pay $80 for the vet stuff that had happened and everything which was fine, everyone was so nice and once he saw us and was so excited to come home. So happy we were able to find him again, he was well taken care of.
