Dr.McCarty has been taking care of my family animals since I was around 8 years old before she started her own practice. She now takes care of my animals. My baby went under for a dental cleaning on Friday and he received nothing but 10/5 stars. From the front desk being patient with me checking in because he was shaking, to the wonderful tech who took him and talked Taylor Swift with him , to the very obvious Dr McCarty. They treat your pets like you would want them to be treated and I don’t think you can say that about every vet. As always thank you for taking such good care of my baby ❤️

Howell Avenue Pet Hospital is amazing. They have so many friendly staff that seem to truly love pets. Dr Johnson is amazing. As a pharmacist I can confirm her knowledge of medications is excellent. This office is a little pricey but the care, knowledge, and availability are worth it.

This the best vet office in Cincinnati. Our cat, Han, got a terrible UTI a few months ago. The office got us scheduled quickly and in to see Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson was so kind and very knowledgeable. The UTI kept coming back and each time we were able to get in to see a vet either same day or the day after we called. Everyone at this office is so kind, especially Kelley at the front desk and Dr. Johnson. Ultimately, we made the decision to put Han down due to the UTI causing liver failure. We saw Dr. John for this and he was also very kind. Obviously it’s not the outcome we wanted, but we know this office did everything they could for our sweet girl. We will forever be grateful.

Best vet office in Cinci. Locally owned, and so, so special.The staff at Howell Ave Pet Hospital are all incredible. We found a puppy in a bad state Thanksgiving weekend 2020, and they got us in for an emergency appointment the same day. (Neither photo is from that weekend. Too graphic to post, honestly.) We kept the puppy, and the staff at Howell became a second home. Our dog turned out to be extremely special needs, and it is not an understatement that we were in the office every other week. From medications to specialist recommendations, they were so accommodating to help Chance live his healthiest life. Unfortunately, Chance had a short life, but even his end of life care was in the best hands.A special shout out to Dr John McCarty, who was there from Chance’s first visit to his last. John worked so hard to make sure Chance had the best care, and for that, we are forever grateful.To the staff at Howell, there aren’t enough words to thank you for everything you did these last two years. We are so, so thankful for you, and Chance loved each and every one of you.

This is so long overdue, but this place is simply THE BEST. This vet is genuinely top-notch, the doctors are stern but kind. They tell you like it is but are incredibly empathetic to your situation. I won’t go anywhere else for a major problem and the professionals on staff are worth their weight in gold.Story time:Dr. McCarty (young) may tell me that my dogs are fat whenever they come in there, but he was the only one who gave one of my dogs, Gremlin, a chance (including me). Grem showed signs of aggression to the point where I called to put him down. And that man spent an hour talking to me on the phone DURING HIS LUNCH, to discuss the options. And while this isn’t comparable to professional training in that sense, he recommended some medication and exposure (please keep in mind, every situation is different). But he’s a different dog now. He can now co-exist with my other dog and be around strangers (muzzled, of course). I love my dogs so much. And if it weren’t for the kindness, empathy, and diligence to everyone on this dang staff, this wouldn’t have been possible. They care about the animals that come through there and they care about their community. This is the spot.

The BEST vet I have EVER been to. You can tell the staff genuinely cares about you and your pet! I took my cat in and he ended up having to get emergency surgery and the team was PHENOMENAL.They were extremely transparent with pricing (they also don’t charge for what you don’t need) and moved efficiently to make sure my animal got the help he needed. Dr. John and his team cannot get enough praise for me and this will be my home vet for as long as I have animals and I will be recommending them to anyone that has an animal. Thank you to the Howell pet hospital!!

To say this is the best veterinarian hospital in the city is a vast understatement. I take both my very geriatric (17 year old) cat and my relatively young (4 year old) dog to see Dr. John McCarty whenever the need or regular checkups require it, and every time the fantastic professionalism of the entire practice is on display. Dr. John himself is a supremely talented practitioner who cares deeply for all his patients. I cannot possibly recommend them enough, and do so to every pet owner I can.

Our vet of choice. I am not sure how they fall in the price world, but they saved my cats life with gusto(I scheduled him for an appointment, and got so worried that I called and was like "he's really scaring me he needs to come in sooner" and they were like okay, bring him). They stock all of the prescription food they prescribe, which is unbelievably helpful. Super-kind, top tier, animal loving people.

We began seeing Dr John McCarty when we moved to the area about 1.5 years ago. He was so kind and compassionate with my elderly dog and with me. He was willing to try anything to help my guy stay healthy and I truly believe he gave us another +6 months of health for my beloved boy. We just said goodbye to our old man but if we ever get another dog we will certainly be going back to Dr John. Thank you for everything Dr! I wish we would have found you sooner!

I love this place, its close, they send appt. reminders and are usually flexible, and I always have a good experience. My doctor (Dr. John if I can remember) is awesome and professional as well.

Was a long time client with several pets. After multiple visits of blatant incompetence and willful indifference, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. I have found a much better vet and have since confirmed with other people that the quality of care at Howell Ave Pet Hospital has seriously declined in recent years. 1 star at best.

The people at Howell Avenue Pet Hospital have always taken amazing care of my 3 cats. From simple checkups to surgeries, I trust them with my fuzzy family. They are well priced and if they can give me advice or answer questions over the phone, they will. $350 later a set of x-rays and a lot of meds our kitty Max has a horrible UTI. I stayed home with Mom but the vet was able to speak to me directly the next day and put me at ease over his issues. He lost a lot of blood but he's doing OK now. Great place worth every penny.

Called to schedule an appointment for my cat struggling with constipation, and they fit me in same day, no questions asked. They seemed to treat her very well and reasonably quickly, and made sure to give me information on how to prevent future issues. The price was reasonable, especially considering that I was also given an 8.8 lb bag of prescription food and medication to assist her recovery. I feel very comfortable with how they care for my pet.

Services used for nearly 4 years, excellent staff. Thank you for above and beyond to Maddie and Dr. McCarty. Medication management for our at home " hospice" dog. Doing well til stroke. In for euthanasia....incontinent in the car. Maddie assisted with clean up and gently took her for clean up. All was calm and gentle, at the end. Everyone has always been supportive and professional . Thank you again, Maddie Dr. McCarty and assistant for your care!

I like the veterinarians and vet techs here a lot. The front desk staff is nice most of the time, but I did have a rather abrasive experience with one front desk lady...when my old dog was very sick...this lady was not at all pleasant or helpful on the phone, and this ended up being the last week of my dog's life. I was upset but I still managed to be polite to this lady while she acted like she could not be bothered by my dog's emergencies, and she acted like our needs were inconvenient to her. When I first called that my dog was having seizures she told me "we are not an emergency clinic." My dog has been a patient there for years and this is the end of her life and that is NOT a proper response. Luckily we did get seen by the vet that day, but only because I showed up in person.

Really pleased with their safety precautions. My dog is usually a bit anxious but he seemed to get along with the vet tech right away. Doc was nice and thorough while examining my dog while on the phone with me. Glad he took the time to listen and address my concerns. My pup seemed happy after he left and the bill cost less than I thought it would. Got a call back about the blood test results a few days after my visit. They did a great job!

We always feel most comfortable here and able to trust the vets no matter who you get. I’ve had nothing but good clinical experiences here. Their support staff is always kind and welcoming. The only problem I’ve ever had is with their website but that just seems to be a work in progress. We moved 30min away and I tried to see another vet closer one time but they just don’t have the same trusted experience

This is a fantastic clinic.I unexpectedly had to euthanize a beloved cat earlier this month, and I couldn't have asked for a better veterinarian to perform the procedure than Dr. McCarty. He was kind, patient and went out of his way to make the process as stress-free as possible for both me and my cat. I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision I wasn't comfortable with, which I imagine happens often in these kinds of situations. I'm very grateful to him for having given me some peace of mind on a difficult day.I can't recommend Howell Avenue enough.
