Just moved to Oak Island recently and was looking for a new more local smaller pet store to support. Found this little place and was given the most fantastic experience. Shelby was a rock star. Answered all of my questions and made sure we had everything we need. She is an absolute animal enthusiast and made me feel comfortable buying from the store. She took the time to show me where every product was that I needed and gave some incredible recommendations for products I was searching for. I will ABSOLUTELY continue shopping here simply because she made the experience wonderful. She’s a rock star and I greatly appreciated her outgoing and friendly personality.

We stopped by to pick up additional bedding and sand (for sand bath) for our new hamster while on vacation. We were easily able to locate the CareFresh bedding we have been using, so that was very handy! The staff was very friendly and we appreciated that everything was so well-laid out in the store. The only critique I would really have is I wish they had a few more toys for small animals. It's been a bit difficult to find variety besides basic chews. We would definitely come back if in need of supplies while on vacation again though!

My wife and I bought several fish from them on 02/28/18. The fish that we originally picked out and had bagged up started dying before we got to the cash register to pay. The young girl helping was trying her best to help, and offered a similar fish instead. She even told us that they having problems with the fish dying for an "unknown" reason.We ended up buying seven fish, and from the time it took to drive from Southport to Bolivia, five fish were dead.Today, my wife attempted to get a refund and was basically told "sorry....there's a sign saying no refunds". Of course the owner wasn't there, and had to be called on the phone. She also offered no refund...only store credit. She was rude and arrogant.How this place has stayed in business is beyond me. Their prices for fish are almost double what you can expect to pay in other stores. And those stores actually have customer service.That I scored them a one star is only because there was no option to score lower.

Love this place, I manage a local pet store in my home county and have gotten a few design ideas from this store. Friendly knowledgeable staff that obviously care very much about the animals. Once a year my family and I are in the area for vacation and National Petland is a guaranteed stop every time! If your little furry, scaley, or feathered family members ever need anything this is the best place to go!!

The store owner is rude, arrogant, and doesn't mind selling fish knowing the fish are in bad health! I purchased fish late February 2018. (No problems, or blame on the young girls working in the store). I picked out 5 Neon tetras, and before the girl could tie the bag several were already dieing, so she replaced them with smaller different type, and cheaper tetra that I didn't ask for. She even stated that they were having problems with those fish dieing in the bags. It was close to store closing, and while my husband was driving I checked on the fish that were boxed, and sitting on my lap, and within 10 minutes down the road they were all deceased. I went back to the store the next day with unopened bag of dead fish demanding a refund for them. Refund was refused, so I demanded to speak with the owner who wasn't there due to a broken leg. They called her, and I spoke with her by telephone. She was rude, and told me no refund, and that the fish I left with were from a different tank than the other dieing fish. She also advised me of a No Refund sign on the wall! True the sign was there, but bad business practice to not refund for unhealthy fish that couldn't survive 10 minutes down the road!Not to mention that the prices of her fish are double that of any of her competition! Example.... (Pet store at Lowe's Foods glo tetras $6.98....hers $11.98) I would strongly urge people not to give your hard earned money to this crooked business owner. I normally like shopping other stores, and not a chain store, but this lady will never get my business again! Chain Stores quality of fish far outweigh this store with her dirty tanks, and diseased fish! I very rarely post reviews, but this one upset me greatly. I would post 0 star if an option! 🤬Side note....the owner also thinks she above parking in a designated parking spot in her high dollar Range Rover. Caught her parking in the fire lane at Lowe's Foods because she's better than the average person (NOT)Next time that's witnessed she shouldn't be surprised when she gets cited, and or vehicle towed!

I go to this petstore often. I love getting to look at their things. I rarely purchase anything from this store. Everything is over priced to the max, I've gotten some of the reptiles they have there for double what i paid for. Most of the staff is friendly. Owner has kind of a rude personality, but i try to avoid her when i go in. Great selection of things. Just over priced

First, I have no idea why this guy and his cat are all over in these pictures . . .HOWEVER, NATIONAL PETLAND IN SOUTHPORT IS THE BEST!!!!We take 3 dogs to NP about every 6-8 week's to have them groomed and bathed.She does such a nice job thenBest groomer we have found anywhere around! . . . Or dogs love it, as do we!!

I went in with my boyfriend to pick out a martingale collar for my PTSD service dog Azkaban. They were so, so helpful. Although we didn't have him with us, the staff didn't ask a single invasive question when I mentioned he was a service dog, and even helped me pick the best collar for service work. Definitely a good find if you're looking for training gear for your working dog, the staff is knowlegable and respectful.

The last time I was in there the lady that works there was bare footed and didn't know how much it cost to have my dog groomed! Not planning on going back or referring them to anybody.

Love this place. There is a lizard expert there named Shelby that is our go-to source for bearded dragon info and has helped us out a lot.
