Adopted a kitten from here almost a year ago now. He was not old enough to be fixed when I adopted him so they told me when he became of age to call and get him scheduled to be fixed free of charge. He is now over a year old I call almost every other week to get him on the schedule and they always tell me that they are so backed up that I can’t even be put on a waiting list. Then when I offered to take him somewhere else they told me that they would not be able to reimburse me For getting him fixed myself. If I would’ve known I wasn’t gonna be able to have him neutered. I wouldn’t have adopted him. The staff is really rude about something that was in the contract that they gave to me. Just overall a bad experience, post adoption.

We adopted two kittens today. The staff were absolutely amazing to me and my girls. This is the second time we have adopted from rockingham and only place I ever would.

Great shelter, awesome staff, reasonable fees. Looking forward to getting our dog! They do require spay or neuter prior to taking the animal home, which is responsible. Definitely recommend adopting from here 😺🐶😊

Be careful for that curly hair girl she has the rudes attitude. Cat throw up soon as we brought it home. The vet doesn't care at all. The cat doesn't even know it's name how. Other then that it's a good place.

Free clinic announcement for rabies shots advertised 1pm - 4:30pm arrived at 3:55pm told the Vet was leaving due to he would not have enough vaccine for his practice on Monday! Drove 30 min to get there! Clinic was “Free” vaccine provided by Petco ! Thanks for ruining my afternoon RCAS!

I have never had any problems at the shelter and overall they do their job. I would highly recommend putting someone with a nice and kind personality at the front desk. The girl at the front had 0 personality and barely talked to me about anything. I mean keep her in the back if she can't do the front job appropriately. If she isn't certified to work in the back, you may want to consider finding someone who would do a much better job for your shelter.

The Rockingham County animal shelter is one of the better shelters I've been to. I adopted two kittens and they got sick between being adopted and coming home; RCAS went out of their way to ensure they were healthy before sending them to their new home.

Great place to adopt your forever new family member !!! I was able to adopt my new cat Cali from there. They were so accommodating and helpful and compassionate people. With hearts full of gold.

The young curly haired lady (girl) at the front desk was very rude. Not just to me but to everyone on she answered the phone to as well. The other lady wearing scrubs and somewhat older was very nice and sweet and caring about the animals.

This place is inhumane and animals there are just left to die and not cared about and neglected and are not cared for and leave animals in pain and they kill them instead of care for them !!!! Sooooo Sad !!!!

it's a shame the good people at the shelter get so burnt out because of management. I've met the front desk girl people are complaining about and have always found her to be exceptional in people skills.If you see someone who appears to no longer like their job consider there may be a reason why someone would change so much!!!

We adopted her Wednesday and were able to bring her home yesterday, the only delay was they do require the animals to be spayed/neutered before they are allowed to come home. She was worth the wait and since she’s a year old having her spayed before bringing her home was also worth it. Also they made the adoption process go smoothly. It is a smaller shelter than others I’ve seen but honestly that was a good thing for us. Not so overwhelming.

Would give 0 stars if I could but I have a lot to say about this place I adopted a kitten only several weeks old & took her home same day and the next day she was throwing up worms so I got in contact with the woman who was fostering & she insisted that I brought the cat back to the shelter for deworming & the lady at the shelter once I arrived chantell did not have a good attitude she didn’t say much of anything at all just took the cat in the back & brought her back to us 10 minutes later didn’t say anything on her treatment..no ,next steps ,no goodbye nothing just got right back on the computer sMh then a few days later the cat got really sick & passed. First off how can you just give a sickly animal to someone without giving notice of that to them or even taking care in the first place & the people service is awful it just seemed like they didn’t give a dang about the poor baby & if they did the animal would’ve been thriving to this day. The whole situation is bizarre & I would be very careful about adopting from Rockingham hopefully this could reach out and save other animals & adopters from the same situation

The only thing was the person up front was rude by all but calling a person a lier who brought a stray in who did have a microchip in front of 3 people that was in the front area also. If you have an issue don't do it in front of people that are there for something else.

We were there to meet a dog and they brought another dog out to meet as well. This poor thing started going nuts wagging her tail so hard her whole body shook. Come to find out she had not been able to go outside in over a month because of staffing issues. Please, if you can find it in your heart to volunteer here or at any shelter you would be helping so many dogs just by taking them for a walk. ☹️

I think they are amazing for basically waiving the "adoption fee" and allowing more people, as well as families to adopt and not shop. They let people pay what they can afford instead of the regular adoption fee.

We adopted 2 cats from this location. They make sure the animals are fixed before you bring them home. I'm sure you can ask them not to if that's what you want. Service was excellent. They communicated well with us through the whole process!

I had to go to reclaim my cat who someone caught. The system was slow. But overall couldn't complain. ALTHOUGH, one of them has a horrible attitude and talks horribly to other staff. If you can't handle the pressure, you shouldn't work there. Her coworker was in tears because of how rude she was. It was an awkward situation, having to make sure she was okay because of a coworker.

Best animal shelter I've been to. Great service and amazing fees cheapest around. Got my amazing Mercy well we changed her name to Bella for 10 dollars. She's a amazing cat. And the women at the desk was so kind I definitely will adopt again when the time comes around.

This place is awesome. It took our Guinea Pigs that we had up for adoption without any issue. Some other shelters have a so called waiting list that is months long. Not Rockingham, they rock!!!

Smell is awful in here. Went to get an appointment to get my cat spade they have a 2-3 month wait period but did go give the cats in this shelter some love before leaving they have some cute loveable cats here. Also have bunnies and dogs

They wouldn’t let my family and I look at any dogs a few weeks ago and now they say we cannot adopt anymore animals from there ever again which I think is stupid and unfair to us. Would not recommend adopting your animals here because if you return one animal they treat you like trash. They also said they would decide to put down the dog if they deemed him unfit for adoption which is so stupid and heartless of someone. Thankfully the universe was on my side and he was eventually put back up for adoption and he was later adopted which warms my heart

Very rude front desk lady. Everyone else was EXTREMELY friendly. I had to take my furry cat back because of severe allergies and she did not offer my money back, just rude. She definitely need to learn how to deal with the "entire" public or get a job that she does not have to. Her "matter of fact " attitude isn't professional or customer service oriented at all.
