I wish I could have given more stars cuz this place knocked it out of the park! The coffee ☕ is fantastic, portions on point,eggs, biscuits (the best I've had), french toast all cooked perfectly. Server was extremely friendly and provided quick service. Definitely the pace to go for a good diner like breakfast. The closest thing to home made .

Went here today for lunch with a huge group of 15.The staff was amazing as soon as we hit that door, they let us pick where we wanted to sit and didn't limit us to tables to make sure we all had elbow room!The food was delicious, proportions were great, and the prices weren't bad either.I also have to give a big shout out to Dawn...As a family we have an inside joke going with beets, we noticed that they had beets on their menu and we asked Dawn if we could get an order of them and just add it on to someone else's bill but told her it was a prank/inside joke, she laughed and said okkk but this is on me and laughs.Before our food came out she came up and asked if we wanted to put a candle on the beets and we said yess!!!I'm telling you my uncle had the biggest smile/laugh when it all happened, and so did Dawn!!This crew went out of their way to make us feel comfortable when we are visitors from Indiana and it was great!!!Thank you Dawn and the staff of Sonny's Waterfront!!!Next time we come for vacation here, we will definitely be stopping in your restaurant for some delicious food!!!!

Sonny’s is just your standard seafood restaurant. Nothing special per say, but the food here is still really good. Calamari, sea scallops, and Mahi were all great. I would prefer if they seasoned their food a little bit more, because everything only gets a light dusting of Old Bay. The fried calamari was great, so I’m assuming their fried dishes are better than the broiled counterparts. Service is great too. Make sure to get here right when they open, gets super crowded really quick. Also, they are inconsistent in opening for dinner or not. One day they could be open, the next closed. Can’t say I didn’t warn you. Definitely give this place a try if you can. It’s significantly cheaper (and better) than most restaurants in Hatteras.Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp up to the front door

The restaurant was clean. Overall, the food was good & arrived in a timely manner. Where the service lacked was with our server. She left us waiting quite a bit. (We didn't order our meals until 10 minutes after we finished our appetizers.) We were a group of 8, so glasses piled up quickly. We had to ask her to please clear some away, so there would be room for our plates. Maybe she was just having an "off" day?! Also, be sure to check their Facebook page. Staffing seems to be an issue, so they aren't always open for dinner.

My husband and I have been to Sonny’s a few times for lunch but it has been years. We recently made a visit for breakfast. We had a short wait for a table and received our drinks quickly. We both opted to get the Windy Day plate with sausage gravy, home fries and 1 egg. We added on a side of grits. Everything came out delicious and hot off the grill.

Good breakfast and lunch place near the ferry area. Seated fast. Relaxed atmosphere. Employees friendly. Service good. Food tasty, nice portions and made fresh, good, and tasty.10/27/22 and 10/28/22 returned for the first time in several years. The Missus had a custom cheese, onion, and pepper omelet, and well seasoned, very tasty home fries (called hash browns here). I had the lump crab (loaded with crab!) and cheese omelet both mornings. It was probably the best omelet I've ever had. Lunch served here and hours are limited to 6:30am to 11am for breakfast. Up to 2:00pm for lunch. Then dinner until 9:00pm. Lots of locals go here. Sonny's was a lovely local restaurant. I ordered the 'Bomb Burger' and my wife got the Blackened Chicken. The food came out nice and hot from the kitchen. Each bite of my burger was steaming with flavor. It was cooked a little over what I typically order but tasted great none the less. The burger was simple despite the name. American cheese, Lettuce, pickle, tomato, onion. It came with a mixture of ketchup, Mayo and Mustard. There's was a nice light mixture of the three of these without being heavy handed. Price was great, burger was only $10. The blackened Chicken was also quite good with a nice sear and not dry at all. Flavors were on point. There is ample parking. Inside was clean. Waitresses helpful and considerate. You pay for your meal at the register where you first walk in. All in all a nice place to get some grub. Thank you!

Unfortunately, be it timing or my party size, I was fairly disappointed with my food at Sonny’s. The service and restaurant were nice, but my Fish of the day platter, blackened, came out dry and over cooked. Bland in some parts and too much seasoning in others. My cousin who order the exact same plate as me had her food come out stone cold as well. I’m assuming this was just due to poor timing on my part, but the food definitely could have been better.

It's a casual dinning place with great good. We ordered the crab bisque and it was creamy with a lot of crab meat. The Captain platter has good size scallops, a crab cake that has minimal filler, tender fried clam strips, shrimp with crunchy and tasty batter, and couple fried fish of the day. It also comes with 2 sides. The wait staffs were pleasant and efficient. Overall, it's a great option for some locally sourced seafood.

Good dinner. Great seafood. Had the captain's platter. Fish was great. Scallops were outstanding. Garlic and bacon mashed potatoes. Fried clam strips. And crab cakes. Only thing I didn't care for was the cole slaw. Drinks were fairly priced. Service was good. Drinks were reasonable priced. So was the food. Will eat here again. Hush puppys are free. Got a burger and fries to go. All good.

We were recommended this restaurant by a kind Park Ranger that can't officially give out recommendations and we are glad he did. They have great comfort food and fast even with our party of eight. We are not locals, but it looks like a locals favorite.

This is a must every time I get to the Outer Banks. The food is always incredible, service friendly and fast and one of the least expensive meals I manage while there. This year I tried breakfast for the first time and it did not disappoint. Incredible value and great food. Also, a big shout out to the kitchen staff for making me corn fritters at like 10am even though they're a lunch item. Made my whole day!

Great little place, I've had fried shrimp at three different restaurants at Hatteras now and this was by far the best. Quick, friendly service.

Such a disappointment. First of all, this “waterfront” restaurant is across the street from the water, has no view or outdoor seating. Second, the food was mediocre at best. It was frozen and highly processed - NOTHING was fresh. I am truly shocked at the positive reviews. Our waitress was nice but not very attentive and overall we did not have a good experience at all. This was our first time to Hatteras and we were looking forward to a nice family meal at a local hot spot. I strongly encourage anyone considering dinner at Sonny’s to think twice. Maybe breakfast and lunch are different but dinner is not with it. Especially because their prices in restaurant are higher than what they advertise online. Definitely not worth it!
