I almost didn't want to write this review not because of any negative experience but because I feel like I'm giving away a secret. We just had a WONDERFUL experience with the Sea Gull Motel, a plain basic room but that is exactly what we wanted. The beach is literally out our door, it's incredible. Door code system worked great and we had literally no issues at all. It was clean, simple and perfect for us and our pups.

I'm glad I booked before I read the reviews! My confirmation email arrived the night before my stay with all the info provided. The door code worked with no problem. The location is perfect. Close to the Hatteras ferry and across the dune from the ocean. But it's also far enough away that you don't feel crowded. Extremely family and pet friendly. I was also texted daily to see if I needed anything. There is no routine housekeeping, and they do ask that you take your trash with you, but there is a dumpster on site to put it in. The walls are a bit thin, but you're at the beach to be at the beach, not hole up in a room. If you're a no fuss traveler who doesn't expect to be waited on 24/7 or a more introverted person that prefers less contact, this is definitely a great place to stay.

🚩🚩🚩I booked this on Air BNB for a Dec 07 check in. We arrived at 408pm. It is a chilly day (low 40s) with a gale coming tonight. The room was very cold with no heat on. The heating unit was an old European-style wall unit that did not work. It didn’t turn on and obviously did not heat. I called the host, Kees Vacations, and spoke with their off-site after hours line. There is NO on-site office or staff; the door is code you are sent. The after-hours help line told me they would make a maintenance request and I would be contacted by them. After an hour, I called again but no answer. I messaged them on Air BNB; no answer. I then called Air BNB who tried to contact Kees Vacations to no avail. I requested a full refund of $157 which I was granted.I do not recommend staying here. The lack of care and response from the “host” also speaks to the quality of the property…. Not well taken care of. We ended up driving to Buxton and staying at the Hatteras Island Inn, which is like a 5* property compared to the Seagull. The locals we met along the way all said “ohhhhh that makes sense” when we told them about our predicament; apparently it is well known for its low quality. Steer clear and find somewhere else to stay!!!

Our room was really nice. King size bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. Very spacious and clean. The motel also has its own beach access. However, you can hear a whole conversation if your neighbors are loud enough.*EDIT* Changed review from 3 to 4 stars because the motel room was very pleasant to stay at after the rowdy bunch checked out.

I typically pride myself in giving only praise but when I feel like it's a need to know situation I share!!!! Visitors beware! My husband and I booked a night here for a date night getaway. Motel isn't bad from outside and in a good location, however that was the only good thing about it. Once we were finally given our code to get in, the bed linens were thrown on the table along with our towels, the fitted sheet was on the bed and covered in grit/sand. An opened envelope that I assume was a tip for the cleaner was left on top of the TV, along with a business card with her cashapp name on it! Coffee pot had molded old coffee in it and in the filter area. Tried taking the fitted sheet off and shaking it out only to find more dirt and hair on the mattress cover. The smell of trying to just rinse out the coffee pot had me literally throwing up. The TV would turn on but couldn't be turned down or change the channel. Needless to say our weekend away was cut short as we didn't even stay longer than an hour in our dirty room, and yet we were definitely still charged for that stay!!! We even called in to state complaints and state that we were most definitely not staying, were told we would get a call back, never did but they still felt the need to charge us !!!! Very disappointed and unprofessional. DO NOT RECOMMEND

They never sent an email with confirmation of room number and key code, so at the time we arrived it took 15 minutes on the phone to get code and room number.2 Pillows had bad smell like humidity or not laundry well.Bot bottles from the shampoo dispenser were completely empty.traps of the shower and the sink must clean up because a strong bad odor of drainage.

The room was disappointing:Small crawling insects throughout. Mattress extremely worn and uncomfortable. TV would not connect to the internet for a signal. Outside walkway light served as the rising sun all night long.

The small motel is run by the KEES. We reserved a room ahead and we knew the check in time was 4:00. When we got there a little early, we realized there is no office and each door has a coded handle. I tried calling the motel number, but I got an automatic answering recording. Expedia helped me get an answer that the code will be sent to your phone by 4:00. There is no early checking before 4;00. Other than that, it is a great place to stay! The ocean and miles of white sand beach are just up over the sand dune. Dogs are allowed and can even be walked on the beach. The motel room is big and has a fully furnished kitchen. The place was clean and there is a pool in the summer.Nearby activities: Lots of restaurants and shops up and down the Outer Banks.Walkability: The beach is just steps away

Its important to make sure you call during business hours prior to arrival to get the code to your keyless room ♡Was worried rooms would not be clean after reading others recent reviews, so we brought our own cleaning supplies : we were pleasantly surprised how clean it was: even window sills!Cute rooms & convenient oven (we couldn't get the bottom oven drawer open as it was stuck shut: only reason we did not give 5 stars)Great size fridge. Rooms are nice sized.Convenient broom & dust pan for self service sand clean up.Even a fly swatter cuz those beach flies snuck in everytime you opened the door.Saw cleaner there everyday during our 3 night stay)Pool was extremely clean! Walk to beach was clean, owners pick up after dogs! Nice shower off at the pool to get the sand off.Parking lot was extremely clean!Will definitely be going back one day ...pleased & impressedOnly suggestion I can offer is a few area rugs to catch the sand as your walking in the door & a walk through screen for the door (it rained alot while we were there and it would have been nice to sit in the room with the door open watching the storms but those flies had other ideas if you left the door open)

The beds weren't made. The trash cans were full. The toilet was filthy. Basically, zero housekeeping was done after the previous guest left. After calling their number, I was on hold for 20-30 min. They told me they couldn't refund because I booked online. It takes them 30 minutes to answer the phone. I was forced to find another location last minute. I will never book a room here again.

I rented the king studio. my check in was easy, the room was spacious and clean for me and my pets. The pool was nice . I loved the amount of land around the motel. My dogs had a very nice area to do their business breaks. its right next to the beach ,only a few steps away. The motels location is very close to shops and places to eat. Kees vacations communications was on top of things.

We stayed down from a Sunday through a Saturday. We got the room we paid/requested for. Pretty good motel for a wonderful place like Hatteras. Bed was pretty comfortable. Bathroom was very small. Parking lot nice and spacious unlike some motels down here. However, I would request to have an outdoor shower somewhere. We would come back from driving on the beach and being on the beach all day and have super sandy feet. There’s only so much you can brush off. All that sand on all tile floor all week is no fun. Will say if you want your room cleaned, you have to leave pretty early in the morning. From what we noticed if you don’t leave before 9 (at the latest) it will not get touched. Overall, pretty good place!

Had to cancel our reservations due to an upcoming tropical storm and they wouldn't refund. I'm well aware of the non-refundable policy, but that's a faulty policy that needs to be amended. Life happens. Disasters happen. If you don't get what you paid for, then you get your money back. That's how the world works, but the vacation industry has not evolved enough to accept this obvious logic and don't want to treat others how they'd like to be treated. Then again, the big boss has to keep up their lifestyle somehow. Screw the customer!

Easy walk to beach; nice pool (could use some TLC - hole in wall) Not a bad place - Pop cans and trash laying around the pool. No dead bolt on our door. Room was clean and comfortable..loved the chairs outside the door. Great for people with dogs - nice one low price unlike others that charge multiple days for multiple dogs. Would go back.

We drove almost 3 hours there, could not access our email because all communication services were down and we waited 3 hours for staff to come check us in and they never showed. With the chance of it becoming dark and us not being able to get in the room, we had to leave. We understand the communication being down was out of everyone's control, but having staff available to check us in was not. We spoke to other guests who claimed there would be someone back within the hour, we waited 3. We have tried contacting the hotel on numerous occasions with no response. This is ridiculous at this point. If someone could reply and give me a refund, that would be great.

The motel is borderline decent. If you are looking for a semi-budget place close to the beach, this will work.Pro:Low cost for the area ~$180/ night in August;Immediate access to the beach;Sea turtle nest 200 ft from motel;Con:It is a motel. Very cheaply maintained and the room was not in good shape;There. Were. Ants. Coming out of the electrical outlets, from under the sink & in the bathroom.I probably won't be staying here again.

We stayed there for four nights in July. Absolutely loved it. We had the pool to ourselves the whole time and the beach wasn't crowded at all. Loved the room amenities.The ice maker never produced ice. But the only real issue we had was with the room door codes. Had issues getting in several times but the lady at customer service was friendly and helped us reset them each time.The only thing I'd change would be the light outside the window. I know it's great for security but Made it very hard to sleep.We will most definitely go back. We love Hatteras!!!

Nice little place, room was equipped with a small kitchen to include a small stove. Stayed 1 night and wasn't expensive at all, but again it wasn't tourist season. I would expect it to be busy during the summer. Also roughly 13 miles from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.

This is a no frills hotel that my wife and I use to go fishing. The room is clean and the bed was comfortable. If you get offended by a little beach sand on the floor this isn't the place for you. The hotel is right next to the dunes and the wind does blow at times in the Outer Banks. We have stayed here a few times now and bring everything we need to be comfortable.

Stays in the past have been great, but our stay last summer was so sketchy and disappointing. First, instead of staying in the motel as is typical, they moved our location to a random property they own across the street without any notice. Not only that, but they combined two of our families (wit separate bookings) into one, saying they had already booked the other room. My elderly grandparents are allergic to dogs and had to stay with the other dog in the party, and everyone was still charged full price for two separate bookings. Also, the parking lot was very dimly lit and my grandfather fell, skinning his arms and legs and almost made a trip to the hospital. When trying to call to resolve the issues we couldn't get through to anyone. We're still not sure why this was okay and are so disappointed, we loved the Seagull motel but we won't be back.

Perfect for what we wanted. Room was clean, housekeeping is very helpful. The pool and rinsing area near the beach was nice. Once you cross the parking lot and climb the stairs you are on the beach. Very small motel so it was quiet and everybody was friendly. Benches outside each room are a nice touch.The only problem we noticed was either the bathroom or tub drain smells absolutely horrible so we tried to keep them closed as much as possible.

No ice on premises, no soap for shower, huge hole in ratty carpet. I was 2 hours late checking out due to difficulty sleeping because of power failure (actually there's a longer story about this). They charged me a $108 late checkout fee. The room was $52 per night before tax and fees, so the 108 seems excessive. Don't stay here! Truly a dump. Also could not get to the beach because sand had buried the access point. The only decent thing is the sandwich shop across the street. I strongly suspect that the good reviews on here are planted by the company.

My husband and I decided to take a last minute trip for our anniversary and a friend of ours recommended The Seagull Motel! We loved it! The room was very clean and welcoming and the bed was super cozy. You just walk out the door and climb a few steps and you are on the beautiful sandy beach. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Hatteras!!

Room was clean, except for mold on the shower curtain. Walls are really thin so it can be noisy, depending on the neighbors you get. Location is awesome, 2 mins walk from the beach. Also a really nice sandwiches place and ice cream place just in front of the motel.

when we arrived, they only gave us the code to get in so my husband had to call them to even get the room number our friends came down the same evening we got there their room wasnt even touched very dirty they had to call kees and tell them they finally sent someone that same evening to clean it. such a shame it has potential if it had better management.
