This was mine and my fiancés fourth year staying here and each time we’ve had a different cabin. Each cabin has always been cozy, clean, and spacious for just the two of us. We absolutely love Hatteras Sands location! The staff, from office to ground maintenance are always so nice and respectful. We are currently planning our trip back for next year and are beyond looking forward to it!

We stayed at Hatteras Sands campground with our RV. The sites had oversized concrete pads, nice picnic tables and a very clean shower and bathroom area located in the middle of the camp ground. The pool was clean. The workers were very pleasant and accommodating. We had some issues with minor things that were taken care of promptly. The laundry facility was close to the pool so that you could do laundry and wait for you laundry to be finished by relaxing at the pool. The staff there were very friendly and personable. I would highly recommend this camp ground to friends and family. I will definitely be back to visit this area.Nearby activities: The campground is located close to the ferry that takes you to Okacroke Island, a shopping area and about a mile walk to the beach.

This place is one of my favorite campgrounds to stay at. The difference between cottages and cabins is that cabins have bathrooms. The bath house has bathrooms that are really nice and clean. The staff is really nice and I love the price because the beds are comfortable especially for a cabin at a campground. All the people who stay here have class too and you don't have to worry about some screaming drunk person outside. Very peaceful and nice place. Less than 100 yards from the hatteras marina to get on a boat and fish.

We had a great stay. We had booked a cottage for 2 nights but a few days before we decided to see if we could stay a third night. My husband emailed them and they immediately responded saying they had a cabin we could have for one night. They clearly state they do 2 night minimum in their website but they didn't enforce that with us for the cabin, and it was last minute. We got there two hours early and they let us check in early for an additional $20. We stayed in cottage 4 and it was just as we expected. It was clean and quiet. They are having to update their septic system so there's a big pile of sand in front. No biggie. The bath house was clean as well. The last night we stayed in cabin 5. Since we had dogs, we asked if we could check in early and they said they'd clean our cabin first and give us a call as soon as it was ready and they did at noon! One hour after check out time. The cabin had a shower, toilet, and sink. Nothing fancy which is fine with us. It backed up to the canal which my husband loved because he could just walk out to fish. The pool was nice and clean. We never used the laundry. It was perfect for 2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs to go to the beach, come back and clean up, grill dinner, and just relax. All of the other campers were so friendly. The employees/owner really did go above and beyond.

We just had the best experience and stayed 2 nights in a cottage and 1 in a cabin. We loved it! It seems the setup for RV's is smart. The staff was amazing. They let us into our cottage early and accommodated us beyond the norm. The gentleman who is there opened the office early to sell me ice. Just the service alone will bring me back next year.I will definitely go back 10/10 would recommend

Stayed in a cabin for a week. Was nice but definitely room for improvement. For one, the refrigerator was tiny. Going off pictures we thought there would be freezer space but there was not. We essentially had a "beer fridge" that someone would have in their garage. 2 other groups that also rented cabins had the same type of refrigerator. There is more then enough space for a larger refrigerator. There was also nowhere to store/hang clothes like a closet rod or any shelves. Definitely a lack of storage space if you're going to use the bunk beds. We stored a lot of stuff on the beds as we didn't use the bunks and the floor is the only other option. We used the pool one day and it was very nice. Was not a concern for us, but we noticed there really isn't much more to do for kids other than the pool though. Location is great if you want to be close to the ferry to Ocracoke. We used that twice during our stay. Also has good shopping nearby for any needs that arise. Staff was always super nice and helpful in addressing concerns. One of our groups cabin lost power and it was quickly restored. My cabin lost power due to a tripped breaker and that too was quickly restored. Overall it fit our need for the trip, I do feel it was a little pricey for the cabin and probably wouldn't stay again because of that.

We camped at Hatteras Sands Campground in our 24’ travel trailer for 5 nights. The campground is smaller but very clean and a perfect location for accessing the OVR Beach access road-Ramp 55. Quiet at night. We had a full-hook up site on a concrete pad. A canal circles the campground on three sides and you can choose a “waterfront” site for a few $ more. Bathhouses are very clean. Staff is out and about; easy to find if you need anything. Store sells bagged ice. They have a laundry room (we did not use) as well. There are also a number of cute cottages on property. Campground was full most of the days we were here. Would definitely stay again. Location was awesome if you plan to drive on the beach.

Our 5th year spending another wonderful week in our couples camper at Hatteras Sands! We love everything about this sweet campground with colorful cabins and cottages. We always book a waterfront site to watch the peaceful canal water and the water fowl that make their home in the marshes. The proximity to the beach is great, and the big clean pool at Hatteras Sands is perfect for a late afternoon swim. Several of our friends spend a few days in the cabins and loved them. Close to restaurants, shopping, and the Ocracoke Ferry…we will continue to visit again and again!Noteworthy details: Close to everything in Hatteras Village.

We pulled our camper to Hatteras Sands Campground at the end of July. Although a lifelong multiple-times-per-year visitor of the island, I had never stayed at Hatteras Sands but decided to give it a try as it is the campground farthest down Hatteras island near where we like to fish and play. I was easily able to reserve a campsite with 2 months notice and was pleased to see it was even slightly cheaper than the nearby campground we frequent. This, however, is the extent of my positive review. When booking your stay you are only able to select between three types of sites (waterfront, double waterfront or full hookup) but cannot select individual sites and are subject to being moved by management any time prior to arrival meaning you may end up in a much smaller or larger site than intended. Our concrete pad was huge but faced directly into the sun, as did everyone elses. There were almost no rules posted on the website prior to booking. I did receive a confirmation email with very few additional rules, including “each site allows for one vehicle” with an additional $10 per vehicle per day for each additional vehicle. In what feels like an intentional oversite, the campground neglects to mention that even when paying for an additional vehicle, it must be parked in “overflow parking”- an unlit, unkept grassy lot behind the main office shared several trash piles and an excavator. Additionally, the rules provided at check-in seem to suggest a fee for use of a dirty pool. These additional fees completely negate any savings by choosing this campground. Not only are the two on-site staff members rude and aggressive during interactions but after discussing concerns over parking and after our request to speak with management, they lied and stated we had yelled, cursed and verbally attacked them. We called and left a message for management at 4pm and heard nothing back. At 9pm, an angry man approached my husband at our campsite claiming to be an owner. He said they had on video that we verbally assaulted his staff and we needed to leave immediately. After some discussion and his inability to provide a video, he backed off and said we could stay. To be honest, we should have just left because these interactions were so uncomfortable that they ruined our entire visit to a beautiful place.Lastly, the onsite laundry room contains two washers and two dryers, but one washer was broken making it impossible to get a load completed.I would rather miss an opportunity to visit one of my favorite places than ever stay at this campground again. Do yourself a favor and stay at Frisco Woods Campground just a few miles away.

This is an extremely long review but please read!!!My family and I are frequent campers at HS; we usually come down twice a year for the past several years. Until now all of our experiences have been stellar and even though Hatteras Sands is a little run down in some areas we liked staying because the staff was friendly and accommodating. I do not know what has happened (perhaps new management or ownership) but things are severely lacking in the customer service department.Let me preface by saying I witnessed the below events and was completely shocked by the behavior and level of unprofessionalism in which things were handled. My cousin rented a double lot and was told even though she paid for the double lot that since she had two cars she would need to pay an extra $100 for the second vehicle to park. She paid this $100 as well as an additional $75 for her mother to be able to come and use the overflow parking which is nothing more than a grassy lot next to a bunch of junk. She proceeded to park her additional vehicle in the space next to her camper as instructed. While cooking dinner we were being watched by a male outside the office and as we sat down to dinner the female “manager” and male rode over on their golf cart to inform us that our fire needed a cover over it if we were not cooking; no problem, this was an oversight on our part. Then miss manager advised that we needed to move said vehicle to the overflow parking even though my cousin had a double lot and paid $100 extra for parking. I proceeded to get into a heated argument with the woman, she refused to listen and was extremely rude. She made sure to say “I’m the manager who runs things here”…Was I in the wrong for yelling? Perhaps I was but she informed us that the owner of the campground would be calling; great! They never called…The next day my aunt and cousin went to the office to discuss the matter calmly to which the manager was very condescending, rude and unwilling to have any kind of dialogue. She instructed them to leave the office immediately; which they did without further conversation or argument. The same male from the previous night proceeded to follow them on his golf cart and confront my aunt screaming at her and telling her to “go smoke some more meth”. We assume because we are residents of West Va. He said this in front of my 9 year old son and two other small children. This was highly unprofessional and utterly uncalled for. At this point she is in fear that this man is going to potentially harm her or her children. She proceeded to pack up her entire site and the children while this same male sat at an empty cabin nearby and watched her the entire time. Creepy! Finally…the owner did call; she was very nice and did her best to rectify the situation. But the damage had already been done the result being a partial refund for the remainder of the days left on their reservation and my cousin moving to a campground down the road. To me this is not acceptable; she should have been give a full refund.Later we were shocked to find out the aggressive male is not even an employee of the campground but a subcontractor who performs odd jobs and the boyfriend of the so-called manager. They actually live in an area at the back of the office. They both made everyone feel unsafe and uncomfortable not to mention the derogatory meth comment.A word to the owner- this is not how to do business. You need to check in on your employees from time to time. Allowing such behavior is appalling and they will put you out of business if things continue on this way. I have read other reviews, we are not the only ones to have these issues. My cousin, my husband and myself as well as my mother in law; we all paid and we all saw and heard what happened first hand. We know many who frequent this establishment and we will be telling them all about this experience. More than anger I feel disappointment at the entire situation. This was a wonderful place where many memories were made and now ruined by a poor management team.

We stayed for 1 month and truly enjoyed it. We stayed in a campsite which they all have lots of room on concrete pads. The pool is very nice, nice game room. Laundry room has 2 washers and dryers and is very clean. Bath/shower houses are very clean. Staff is extremely nice and Marv and Martha truly worked very hard to maintain the cleanliness of the park and were so very friendly. We enjoyed kayaking the canals and the convenience to stores in the village by bicycle, which is a great way to travel while there. Also close to beach, Graveyard of Atlantic museum and ferry to Ocracoke.

This may be our 12th time coming to OBX and the last three years we have stayed at Hatteras Sands. It is exactly what we need for three weeks a year. Friendly staff, great pool, large pads and more. It is centrally located and allow my wife and I to ride our e-bikes everywhere around town. As Jimmy Buffet would say "If there’s a HEAVEN for me, I’m sure it has a beach attached to it! "

Hatteras Sands Camping Resort my be a wonderful place for campers but it is not for anyone staying in the cottages. Obviously you don’t take care of the cottages because you don’t furnish bed linens or towels (other than having to pay an additional charge of $30) so I don’t know if anyone had even been in there to clean. If we took off our shoes from the time we got there and walked around sand was on the bottom of our feet. And it’s pretty bad when the only place to sit down other than the bed was the commode! No chairs, you need to tell people this. I would have bought some. So take a guess do you think we’ll be back.

The toilet and shower in our cabin were clean, but that was about it. Our feet were black from the floors. The beds had been sprayed with cleaner and the smell was a bit overwhelming. It's a place to lay your head down at the end of a day at the beach/fishing.It's not a bad place if you can handle making peace with the fact that it's not going to be spotless, clean.Overall, the cabin wasn't bad. People were respectful.I've included a picture of the papertowel used to wipe the floor.

Booked 2 nights for me and my daughter in a cottage. I knew they don't have a bathroom in the cottage and linens nor towels from when I booked the trip and that was Ok($30 fee to rent them) but not being able to see anything on the TV in a rainy day because of their wifi, sucks. It was annoying and the room is so tiny that you can't move much inside. The camp and the pool is pretty clean I say and is really good for campers,RV's but there is a lot room for improvement for the other rentals.

The campground was nice, very clean, friendly staff and had a nice pool. The only downside I had was you are very tightly packed together. The narrow road and tightly packed RVs made for a hassle backing into our site.Rooms: RV sites are tightly packed together.Nearby activities: Lots of fishing or laying on the beach. Not much else in the area.Walkability: Walking distance (half mile to a mile)to the beach or a marina.Food & drinks: Bring your own food for the campground. Very few restaurants or bars in the area.

Cute, affordable cottages. The bathhouse was clean and well stocked. Some things seemed to be in need of repair (some doors in the bathouse had seen better days, and the downstairs light in cottage 4 was flickery to the point we just didn't use it at all. Other than that, the staff is helpful and friendly, there is a cool clubhouse/rec room, and the pool seems very clean (we didn't use it this trip, but it looked nice.) Overall good deal for the price!

Love this campground. Super clean including bathhouse. The laundry was the cleanest I've ever used and traveling 5 months out of the year, I've used alot of campground laundries. Marv, the camp host, was the best. This guy is go, go, go and super friendly and helpful. The beach near the campground was our favorite. So beautiful and uncrowded. I would give 5 stars but the sites are pretty close together. If we had been in site 9 or 10 or even 8, it would definitely have been a 5.

We were there in mid October and had a full hookup site on "the island". It backed up to to a canal that ran through the campground. It was quiet and within easy walking distance to most areas in Hatteras. The shower hose was clean and had good hot water. The laundry facility was small but clean and in good working order. a bit pricy, but seems the going rate for the area.
