Took my dog here, the vet told me she suspected brain cancer. She then recommended euthanasia. I was charged 700 dollars just for my dog to be seen & evaluated. I went to my vet the next day, to discover my dog had a double ear infection. Had they had done a full exam at this facility, they would have discovered that also. Please get a second opinion from your primary veterinarian before going here. These people are too quick to recommend euthanasia. Totally disgusted with their lack of knowledge & carelessness.

They may be a good vet when things are easy but when there’s an ER, no one seems to care. I called because my dog was throwing up heavily since 7 o’clock the night before. They told me they had no room and go to the er vet on bridge Street or Auburn. I told him that they said they will just put her down. They actually accused me of lying and hung up on me. I told the truth. I asked them, would you take your dog to someone who said they’re going to euthanize them? They said they can’t do that without my permission, but the thing is that they won’t do anything else. I asked questions about what I could do for my dog and they completely ignored me and hung up on me after Insulting me because I didn’t Respect them. They called me a liar. I used to take my dogs there many years ago. They are not the same. It’s obvious all about the money and not the animal.

It seems my post from several years ago was removed. If I could give 0 stars I would. Horrible experience and care for my dog who unfortunately had to be put down. The underlying cause of her chronic pain (arthritis/issues with nerve endings) would have NEVER been known had I stayed at this vet. I thankfully transferred my dog’s care to Manlius (could not speak more highly of them!) where she was properly diagnosed and received the care she needed until her passing. I guess the first red flag should’ve been when I got her spayed at DAH and they didn’t send me home with a cone saying it “wasn’t necessary”…PLEASE, if you truly care for your animals, stay clear of this place. It’s clear this is a money maker before a care facility (if even that).

My son’s dog was previously diagnosed with congestive heart failure by this vet several months ago. As a result, they prescribed 3 different medications as a precaution treatment. Recently, my son ran out of pills for couple of days of 1 of the 3 meds. He called the hospital to get a refill and they only would give him 5 pills. After the dog took those pills she was doing well. I had her the day, my son took the dog back for bloodwork in order to get the remaining meds. The dog walked in with a leash and when they brought the dog back to his car, she was lethargic and couldn’t walk. Obviously something happened within the hospital. Then he requested the vet to come out and was told either bring her home or to the ER. As a result they had to put the dog down due to her new condition. If they didn’t insist on bloodwork , I believe the dog would have been able to go home. I believe the dogs heart was stressed at this visit and she collapsed. My son didn’t want the bloodwork it was forced. The dog had a cough prior to this visit and was always happy to see me with a playful manner, even on the day they put her down . You be the judge, coincidental?. I’m so saddened by these sequence of events.

I took my dog Loki for his check up and needed vaccines. Because my dog is not really good with people they suggested a small muzzle. I went in with my dog and Dr Wilcox put Loki's muzzle on. He showed care and tenderness knowing Loki was scared. The entire staff was amazing, they trimmed his nails with no problems. The checkout staff was friendly also. This was a great experience for myself and Loki and I would recommend them.

AVOID!!! I brought my cat to Dewitt Animal Hospital for a general checkup and was informed that she was healthy. Two weeks later I had to bring her back for a general comprehensive examination as I noticed loose stools in the litter box for a number of days. Instead of addressing the root cause of the issue, my cat was given antibiotics. However, to my dismay the Vet. had completely misdiagnosed my cat - She had a massive cancerous tumor in her gut that Dewitt Animal hospital failed to catch twice, within a one month span. I was only able to discover this mishap once I got a second opinion from a different Vet. Not at Dewitt Animal HospitalEven if catching the cancer earlier would not have changed the end result, my kitty was suffering in silence for weeks because the vet failed to detect this tumor twice!I would avoid this place at all costs.

I'm not too fond of the modified curbside policy but the results of their care are pretty 10/10. Good attention to detail and exercise of caution in my experience.

I have a difficult Chihuahua named Tiko and the team was so professional and dodged his shark week attempts with grace and dignity. They were able to get him vaccinated and had him back in moments!!! The prices are reasonable and the staff is very professional, I highly recommend Dewitt Animal Hospital 🏥!

This has been our vet for the past several years but I’m looking for a new vet now. Our 10 year old boxer had to go in to discuss possible end of life as she was lethargic and hadn’t shown any interest in food or water all week. When she did drink anything she would throw up bile and all the water she drank. She had been quivering in pain from something going on. They did a physical exam and felt her stomach and reported feeling nothing in her gut. The vet recommended some blood work and when we asked what treatment might entail for any of the blood work findings and what the recovery might be for a dog this age, he said anything from these tests that we do would just buy you some time. Of note; this entire time after the vet had touched her he had a somber look on his face. Then we were shuffled into another room with a very young employee to discuss $623+ on blood work costs. She stated we could do a few of them if we choose to determine if it’s an infection or something simple but then she went on to say if we didn’t pay the $623+ they wouldn’t be able to recommend any treatment as they wanted a full blood panel. We then inquired about end of life options because something serious is clearly going on and the young employee said very coldly that we would have to call the crematorium place ourselves to “pick up the body” and pay them more money to handle that piece of things. I didn’t like the insensitivity and lack of bedside manor they had. I felt something was off and our dog looked like she wanted to get out of there. We ended up going to Urgent Veterinary Care in Auburn. They took her back for an exam and did a sonogram/ultrasound on her and found a softball sized cancer mass in her stomach causing a blockage. The vet said she did it only after she felt the mass performing the physical exam. So in other words; the Dewitt Animal Hospital knew there was a very large mass in her stomach, and instead of being honest and recommending end of life care they wanted to drain more money out of me first and torture my pet in the process by poking and sticking her with needles and filling her with fluids just to “buy her time.” They knew she was dying and suffering and said nothing. Don’t bring your pets there. Peaches has crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully and respectfully at the Auburn Urgent Care Vet. Please stay clear of Dewitt Animal Hospital.

Incompetent staff. I heard they once were good, not the case anymore. They don't care about your pet, they care about money. They do not care about prior allergic reactions your pet have had, they will push you to give them the same medication that made them sick. Not caring if it means an even worse reaction. Very dismissive in what you know or say about your pet. I care more for my pet than their greedy agenda. Save your pet! Do NOT bring them here. Run, get out and don't go back.

Staff are all super friendly. My dog gets excited when we go here! Prices are great and it's very easy to set up appointments! You don't have to wait 1-2 months like other places! :)

Brought my dog in to get some vaccines updated. The receptionists and the assistant were very polite and friendly. The doctor, however, was very rude and dismissive. He didn’t listen to anything I said and very frequently just talked over me. I spent over 300 dollars to watch him give 3 vaccines and tell me I was confused about my own dog. Would absolutely not recommend anyone of my friends or family to take their pets here.

My mother’s dog was very ill and they would not help her, even though she was a patient. They told us to go to bridge street- which we could not afford. I called around and found care for her dog but it was too late. I called to ask for her records to be sent so the vet could help and the receptionist was very rude. She told me they’d already sent them(before I’d told them where we were.) My dog also goes to Dewitt but we will be finding a new place as well.

Very good Dr. However I requested a nail trim. He rushed, missed a few and left nails very long. Next week at follow-up asked to trim more. STILL left too much nail and charged me again!!

Called me to bring my dog in for their heart worm medication a month early. Tried to explain that the dog is not due for another month and was told that I should still bring them in as a double dose won’t “necessarily” hurt them

I have brought 5 cats and 2 dogs over the years to Dr. Wilcox. He is very knowledgeable and diagnosed each of my pets accurately. He took the time to talk to me on the phone when I was struggling with making a decision on when to euthanize one of my cats, and his staff were very compassionate when my dog was diagnosed with Lymphoma. He will give you the diagnosis, and treat the same as other Veteranarians will, but sometimes the decision is up to you as an owner to make the right decision depending on your personal situation. I would recommend Dewitt Animal Hospital.

The staff here are so professional and kind. I take my cat here for her routine/sick vet care and have boarded her. Prices are very reasonable and staff are always willing to answer questions. They don't push services but will explain when they see something is needed for your fuzzy one. I highly recommend them, although my cat still isn't so sure! 🤣

Starting bringing my dog here years ago when he was a puppy for his first shots. My tiny dog was maybe 6 or so pounds and they put him in an actual headlock to give him shots. Took blood for testing and brought him out with blood leaking down his leg, I had to clean him up. Brought him back to have his teeth looked at around 2 years old, vet tried to pry his mouth open and then refused to touch him again because he was struggling. Said he would only do an exam if I could open his mouth and then didn't even try to look at all when I was trying to do so. Said to go home and monitor his behavior. With all these issues, I still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and when my cat seemed sick (hadn't been there before, I needed a new vet) they refused to take her because they weren't taking new patients. I was a current client with my dog, but because they hadn't seen my cat, they told me to kick rocks. I'll be switching to a different vet for my dog immediately. If a human got treated the same way my dog did at a hospital, people would be held accountable. I'm sure the vet will push all responsibility back on me to deflect a negative review, but people should realize that most places would reach out to the client directly if they made a complaint. They are only worried about defending themselves publicly to prevent losing future patients. Wouldn't recommend them at all.

Horrible and unethical.Previous to taking our two dogs to Dewitt, we talked to the office and they assured us- among other things- that they would have ample availability, including weekend appointments. Yet when our dog has an issue that needs to be seen quickly, they can't be seen for weeks...Another issue is that we have been told that "Dr. Wilcox will call you back" regarding treatment options for ongoing issues. We have yet to have dr. Wilcox call us back.Today, my wife talked to the office and they had a disagreement over treatment and Dr. Wilcox and the office decided not to treat our dog- who clearly has a UTI- tomorrow and to drop us as clients because of this. Basically, they refused to treat an animal because they don't like that there was a disagreement. Clearly, they could have seen the dog and then decided to part ways with us. Instead, they made the decision to let the dog suffer. Shame on you.Don't go there.

Terrible service. They see your pet for less than 10 minutes and barely answer any of your questions or acknowledge your concerns. How is a <10 minute visit sufficient enough for a thorough examination and diagnosis? I’ve had two appointments here and each one left me frustrated and still worried for my pet’s health.Update: 12/6/21To prefaced I am not one to get angry very easily or leave negative reviews, however the TERRIBLE service at this vet has warranted me to do so.Another vet was kind enough to fit an appointment in to see my cat. Turns out Dewitt Animal Hospital incorrectly diagnosed my cat and prescribed us overcharged medicine (many of which were antibiotics) that made my cat even sicker. As many may know, cats are very good at hiding their illnesses and discomfort. The fact that my cat was visibly exhibiting how terrible he was feeling makes the situation even more infuriating because it could’ve been prevented/lessened if he wasn’t improperly and carelessly diagnosed. One of the overcharged medications was ~$60, but if you look elsewhere it averages ~$30. Between my roommate and I, we wasted hundreds of dollars for only two visits (the second one being a 2 week checkup), each one being about 7 minutes long. If this place is going to see your pet for <10 minutes and overcharge, the very least they can do is diagnose and prescribe the right medication. My question in my original review “How is a <10 minute visit sufficient enough for a thorough examination and diagnosis?” was answered at the cost of my pet’s health. It is far from sufficient, but they’ll go ahead and misdiagnose anyways. It is completely unacceptable and infuriating that Dewitt Animal Hospital is really an establishment that prioritizes money making over an animal’s health.

We have had nothing but great experiences here! We have been with them since we first got our dog last June. Anytime we’ve needed to come in, they’re kind, professional, and treat our dog with love. We had a particularly bad experience with a groomer who injured our dog last Friday and they have been amazing in helping us take care of our dog since then. Even during a pandemic, Dr Wilcox took the time to come out to our car to talk to us . Great staff who really care about our dog and are always so good to us as owners! Thank you for taking care of our pup!

My dogs have always gotten excellent care, and the girls there are patient and helpful. Since Covid, Dr. Wilcox comes out to the car to make sure you understand what's going on with your pet. It's a little pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. My dogs are happy and healthy.

The vet here is very cold and rude, and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Every service to help your animal is behind a huge paywall. I expect to pay for services at the vet but to even consider or look at a problem you bring up, expect to dish out extra hundreds of dollars. The girls that work here are wonderful and patient and try to help but can rarely answer any question you have. I literally dread going here, not knowing how much the cost will be for routine exams and having to speak with the vet.

Been going here for years - I love how sweet all of the assistants are - Dr. Wilcox is extremely professional, honest and reliable. Some folks on here are commenting on that he seems aloof - I would rather have a Doctor who is serious than some silly smiling person who tells you what you want to hear.Btw, all vets charge fairly large amounts for services - it is indeed intimidating but this is normal in the medical field and since animals do not carry insurance, we feel the costs.Love you guys!Thank you for all you guys do! I generally do not write reviews but I feel I need to let people know my experience. I took my dog there to be neutered and was very much surprised of the additional costs that were NEVER discussed with me during my pre-op visit. I ended up leaving with my dog and will go elsewhere for the procedure. The techs couldn't find notes on my dog from his pre-op appointment and I felt very uneasy since I would not be able to prove there was no need for the additional costs. An addition $650 is not something you don't mention to someone. Please review your quotes before having any procedure done on your animals! The staff I spoke to were very nice and understanding

Took my new cat here as a new adopt. Usually take my other cat to north country vet in Pulaski. The vet seemed nice and willing to answer any of my questions. However I was not notified about the charges of testing beforehand and it was a lot compared to what my other vet charges. In the 4 times calling here twice the receptionist seemed short with me, unsure why. I brought up another condition with the tech to be discussed with the vet when I brought my cat to the appt. Tech asked me if i had told that to the receptionist beforehand but they had never even asked me anything of the sort. Just asked for paperwork and credit card info.
