Great store. Felt like I was in the movies. Always great to get literally anything you can think of in one trip. Food, check, books, check, inflatable mattress, check, etc...Extra points as they knew the correct questions to ask me re. my service dog, which is always a really nice surprise.

I love Charlie Johns. It is a unique store. When you first enter the doors, you think it is your ordinary rural, local, grocery store, but as you go in further it becomes so much more then that. They have almost EVERYTHING! Like a giant convenient store/ book store/ sportsman's shop/ grocery store. The people are down-to-earth and if you give the store a good first impression, they will treat you like one of their own kinfolks. Each employee has a character of their own, and is always an experience to talk with them. The store has a time of itself. A mixture of modern and the good-ol-days. It reflex the nature and culture of Village of Speculator. Truly a must stop, but be prepared to buy more then intended. Ask the Deli about Garbage Bread. It is Delicious!!! Also always ask for a sales slip. The prices are a bit more then usual but the bargains are very good! Oh, and on the look out for Shaggy the Speculator Sasquatch and Adi the Adirondack Yeti. Rumor has it that they enjoy hanging out at Charlie Johns once in awhile. Always good to call ahead of time to see if they will be there. .

This place has everything… except kindness. Here with our two young kids to go camping, spent $140 on our groceries and tarps — you’re welcome — and overheard an elderly employee complaining about our kids. I said to my family: “it’s time to check out now.” And she said, behind my back, “ugh. please.” In an exasperated tone. You’re right. Our kids were a little bit intense. We’re also fellow human beings traveling in your town and trying our best. The kids didn’t hurt anything or anyone, yet you felt like othering us and like you could just be so wildly rude. Hello! I heard you! 👋Clearly this offended me, and I felt like speaking up in the only way I can. Anyway… buyers with children… beware of judgy employees! I can only imagine how they’d treat a kid who was actually having a “moment.” 🤪

Great store, always find what I need especially since the hardware section opened. Wide selection of goods at a decent price. Really friendly cashiers, been shopping here ten years and really grown to love this place.

For this area its like a Walmart (in what they have, not the service) very friendly people. This is a legit super market, fresh fruit / frozen foods/ giant beer walkin. Great selection of anything you may need. Lots of camping gear. I come to this area every year and this place is a staple. If you need a real store, more than a country store, this is the place.

They had what I needed to get the job done. A small upcharge to have it locally, worth the savings in gas. Plumbing, hardware, fasteners, adhesives, blades, garden accessories. No tools or lumber. For small to medium jobs or emergency repairs or a quick fix, they have most of what you need and if they don’t, you can make it work.

Our family stopped here while camping in the area. The area is remote, and we were happy to find this store for our needs. It is a grocery type store, and had everything we needed to replenish supplies for camping.....especially beer :) They have a large walk in cooler with many craft beer selections available. We will be stopping here whenever we are in the area.

What a wonderful store in the small town of Speculator. They sell fun local products and have a nice variety for those with dietary restrictions. They have both groceries and hardware and overall a great variety of products.

Nice store for small town. They pretty much everything you will need and have a great selection food beer and hardware. They have a large book and magazine selection and good prices on lawn chairs and flotation toys for the beach. We try to stop every time when going up that way. Prices are to be expected for a small town store. Check out the outdoor greenery too.

This is a great store at the main intersection in town. They have everything that you need. All food items, fresh deli meats, beer, books, camping gear, water toys, firewood, knives, fishing gear, and anything else you need for a weekend in Speculator. Their stock also changes for different seasons so if you are looking for something in particular just ask them. They have always been able to help me find what I need.

We have been going to Speculator to camp for over 40 years. I find that their meat selection is better than our local grocery store. Great store, fair prices. Everything you might need is there.

Charlie Johns is my favorite store, bar none. It's eclectic blend of food, housewares, camping gear, beverages, Adirondack books and souvenirs, and hardware brings just about everything you need under one roof. The produce and meats are great, and the craft beer selection (always perfectly chilled) will please the most discerning palate. Worth the trip whether across Lake Pleasant or from the flatlands.

The deli makes great macaroni salad plus in the meat coolers pick 5 pkgs for $19.99!!! All the camping supplies you might need plus books, collectibles and some t-shirts/sweatshirts. Great produce and love the new cooler wall in Isle 1! Wish they stayed open later in the summer time and on Sundays...

This place has literally every thing you need. The staff is very friendly. I bought avocados, vitamin D, a shovel, and a magnifying mirror in one recent trip. A life saver when the nearest place to get groceries or hardware is an hour away.

This is a great grocery store in the area. One of the larger grocery stores in the area and has a great variety of stuff. Not many gluten free options but overall very good for simple groceries.

Shopping at Charlie John's yesterday. Wearing a mask myself, but I saw 3 other people not wearing masks. I mentioned it at the check out saying it is a mandate and got a shoulder shrug. Nice job Charlie Johns. Way to spread the virus.
