After wandering the beautiful Ringwood manor property I had a craving for Buffalo chicken wrap. We saw the rating of Characters and walked in. It was St Patrick’s day. The bagpiper was entertaining and it was full. Yet the servers were gracious and caring and patient l. We couldn’t get our Buffalo wrap as it was a special menu but we enjoyed the thin crust, most delicious Buffalo chicken pizza. The bread was warm and soft. We had a lovely evening. Try this place.

I felt like I was eating at a nursing home so bland and dry. I had a caprese wrap it had no flavor was dry and wrap was stale. Bone in wings were ok but not covered in sauce just placed on top again no flavor. Burger was chared the list goes on im confused with the stars maybe a locals like and are used to it. Prices $$$ were a bit over for dishes that were a disappointment. Caprese had no tomatoes just some sort of sun dried tomato not it. Total fail for me.

Food has been consistently good each time, and portions are large with very fair prices. The burgers are very delicious and the French Onion Soup, as well. Staff is friendly, especially at the bar. Service in the dining room sometimes seems a bit overwhelmed. Cozy atmosphere with a nice Irish bar feel. Cute place and seems to be local's favorite. But giving it a 4 star because of the service. Servers were great, young but very nice and friendly, but the hostess made the experience much less enjoyable. She left us standing there wondering while she finished a casual conversation while directly looking at us, maybe it wasn't her best day. But still, at least acknowledge customers and mention that you would be right with them, and not just leave them standing there wondering if you even work there.Now to the good part - portions are pretty big and very tasty. We had mainly salads and some wings, but all was fresh and tasted really good. They did forget a few things we ordered but it wasn't worth to fuss over.Lots of school or college kids work there so if you are looking for a great service, probably best to lower your expectations. But if you are just looking to grab a quick bite that is decently portioned - hive them a try.There is a bar inside and we have noticed that people order take out here quite a bit.

Very nice atmosphere, beautiful decor, and delicious food! PIPING hot when served and an overall great choice for the entire family. Had the loaded mac and cheese- very tasty 👌🏼. The roast beef sandwich was to die for along with the Shepard's pie and chicken pot pie. The food deserves 5 stars for sure- only deducted one star due to the fact they don't have half and half for your coffee and the food did take a tad long to arrive.

Friendly atmosphere, very good food. A little noisy, but it is a pub/restaurant. The French Onion soup was excellent. I had the Shepherds Pie, comfort food at its best. Another had the seafood paella, said it was fresh and tasty. Plenty of parking (Tues), we arrived at 5, by the time we left the restaurant was full. If you are from NYC or NJ and spending the day shopping at Woodbury Commons, drive down 17 instead of getting on the thruway in Harriman, and Characters is on the left in the town of Sloatsburg. You can catch the Thruway a little further south, easy on. It would be a relaxing stop on your way home.

Stopped here after a grueling hike at Harriman State Park. Staff was so nice and accommodating, sat us outside with our dog and brought her fresh water. Service was great, orders taken quickly and drinks/food came out quickly as well! We were the only ones sitting outside (because it was hot AF and because of the dog) but never felt forgotten.Food was fantastic - wings were super crispy and definitely double fried, which don't often see these days. Shrimp tacos, calamari, salad all great. Beer was cold. Great prices and portions.Everyone entering/leaving the establishment passed our table and were also so nice and said hi to the pup. A great vibe. What a wonderful ending to our nice hike!

Great place to have a beer or two and bar food after a scenic drive. I ordered their Tuna special and meat lovers pizza. Tuna was good there! The pizza was on a thin crust with 8 slices and delicious!

we stopped by on a sunday afternoon after a hike in harrington state park. we were craving beer and wings and this was definitely the place! we had our dog and we're able to grab a table on the outdoor patio. the inside by the bar was poppin with locals drinking and watching football. it looked super lively and a ton of fun!we ordered a lot of food and everything was delicious and prices were great. good portions.we also had a vegan with us and even she was surprised with the vegan/vegetarian options too!

Eh... the food is subpar to mediocre. We've tried many times over the years, and same result. Locals seem to like it, maybe because of the restaurant's participation in various community fundraisers and/or personal connections. For us, that's not enough to overcome the mediocre food and service. There are too many other good options within a 15 minute drive.

Was a bit concerned after got the appetizers that the plates were going to be small, but when the main dished actually got there it was a complete opposite. The main courses were so big that regretted getting appetizers and had no room for desert even though really wanted to try their pie. The service was top notch, on point and attentive. The place itself has a great atmosphere and their walls have so much stuff to look at and talk about that do not regret sitting inside. The menu is so diverse that you get lost wanting to try everything, guess it gives you a reason to go back.

Characters feeds Sloatsburg locals fine Irish fare in an historic atmosphere. Shepherds pie, Chicken pot pie, and a saucy Irish chicken curry are on the menu's "Irish Corner." They have a respectable selection of brews on tap, and the servers know how to pour a good Black and Tan. We first came here to visit a monsignor friend of ours who was filling in at a nearby church, and this was his favorite place. The old Irish priest who loved nothing more than to "go for curry" loved this place and it's easy to see why.

First time at this location. I ordered a burger but unfortunately a bit charred. The curly fries were awesome, overall I rate a 4 for the food. The waitress who attended my friend and I was very courteous and attentive. I will definitely come by again since everyone deserves a 2nd chance.Parking: Plenty of pking which is a plus.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access for a disabled person.

Great pub with a good menu and well made cocktails 🍸. Food has never disappointed, but if something needs to be corrected, their on it! Clean establishment, restrooms as well. Service is always great, never rush you, very accommodating. Parking is always available. Bar area is separated to the right of the entrance. Returning customer, great spot to meet up with friends..Features: As of now, May 2022, no mask required.. tables are spaced nicely apart. Restaurant is clean. It's a pub, nothing fancy, but good food and service.

It’s a shame because the food is pretty good, but the staff is something else. They’ve messed up my order multiple times, forgotten to put my order through both in person and via take out, and would take their sweet time to take my order when sitting at the restaurant. The staff needs to be better trained.
