I don't want to this to be a rude post, rather a heads up. I've been here several times. Last time was in October of 2020. The product this man makes it's quite honestly the best smoked fish you will ever have. However, if you aren't vaccinated, he won't serve you. I'm writing this not only because I respect his decision as I would want someone to respect mine, but to save others time with travel. I'm not sure why he wouldn't just put a sign up in the beginning of his long drive way stating this to save everyone the aggravation. I hope this helps some people.

I just drove here from Scranton. When I pulled in the owner asked me if I was vaccinated. I told him I was not. He told me to go get vaccinated and show him the card and he would sell to me otherwise I could just go home. So I went home. I guess he doesn't want my money. I really feel sorry for the guy. He seemed so scared for his life. Very sad.

I visited today with my daughter. I was looking forward to trying the smoked eel, something I haven't had since I was a boy. Instead we were greeted by the owner in a hostile and verbally aggressive manner. He demanded to know our COVID vaccination status (This is 2023 right?) and informed us if we went to the pharmacy in Hancock we could get our vaccine. We would be permitted to come back when we were "fully vaccinated and masked." This man is a lunatic. I think that the eel is not the only thing smoking in those woods. Beware!

Great to meet Ray. He was exactly as expected. Fun to meet a legend. Can't wait to try the smoked meat we purchased.This is not a restaurant. He has concerns about covid exposure, be respectful of his precautions and you will have a great experience.

I've been a huge fan of the Filthy Riches show for years and a huge fan of Ray. For my birthday my husband took me to meet him and check out his smokehouse. We got smoked shrimp, lobster, chicken, and trout. I was blown away. It was without a doubt the absolute best smoked meats I have ever had. Didn't have any eel's but we will be back in September for those and we will keep going back. Also, sending all my coworkers and friends! THIS IS A MUST TRY! Thank you Ray for the awesome experience. You are outstanding.

A must feel experience. Exotic place just 5 minutes of I-86 ( former Rt 17). There are a lot smoked delicious foods in the store presented by owner Ray Turner very educated, knowledgeable man and great conversationalist.Features: There is washing station outside the store, paper towels and sanitizers. You will not be allowed in the store without washing up.

Had a great experience today meeting this cool dude, Ray Turner, the Eel Man of Hancock NY. His products are delicious - never had smoked shrimp before but I want to go back right now for more! Ray Turner was in incredibly nice and conversational person. It is quite clear that he loves what he does. He talked to us about where we were from and what we did for a living, and he was also very informative on how to properly care for the products that we purchased in order to keep us safe from any food born illnesses. One of my favorite things that I bought some smoked cheddar cheese. I had no idea someone possessed the skill to make cheddar cheese taste any better than it already did.

My experience echoes previous reviews. Ray Turner is one of a kind, and his smoked products (salmon, shrimp and trout) were, hands down, the absolute best I have ever tasted. Worth the trip down the dirt road to meet Ray and have the privilege to buy his products. You won't be disappointed.

Stopped in to see this great little place on 8/2 and couldn't have been happier. Got some smoked shrimp that were as big as lobster tails and a few other items. Spoke with Mr. Turner who is a very interesting and nice individual. It was well worth the detour and I highly recommend stopping by.

Mr Turner is a legend. It's worth going just to walk through his establishment. Anything you buy there is top notch. I've been going there now on and off for a few years and I've yet to buy one of his famous smoked eels. But I think eventually my timing will be in my favor. Hard place to find but it's worth it

The smoked shrimp are out of this world! Also picked up some smoked salmon because he was out of eel :(. Ray is very nice, and his products are amazing. Definitely worth the 10 min drive from the highway. Follow the wooden signs once you get to the dirt road, and you'll be fine! Thanks Ray, we'll be back!

Finding Ray and his smokehouse is worth the trip! On our way back to Buffalo we got off Rte. 17 and onto a small road taking you off the beaten path and in to nature where you will find him at the end of the road. The selection was great but more importantly the conversation and passion displayed during our visit made the trip all the better. We will be back in the Spring with our cooler this time and thanks to Ray for helping us with our selections!

The old hairbag does not disappoint.If there ever was an embodiment of the tired expression “it’s the journey, not the destination” this is it. First of all, the smoked items this legendary man produces live up to the reputation. But more than that, trekking up to the Catskills, down into the valley, to the end of a dirt road, you find yourself transported in time. Mr. Turner may begrudgingly allow you to buy eel or salmon or shrimp that he has lovingly smoked for ten hours the day before. And it will be worth every mile of the drive- no matter where you start the journey from.

If you like smoked meats and cheeses, these are the best. Ray Turner has been doing this for decades and it's a pleasure to just stop in to grab a snack. The hot smoked salmon and shrimp are my personal favorites, but there are plenty of other smoked offerings including eel, game hens, duck, different sizes of chickens, gigantic shrimp, trout, cold smoked salmon, and cheeses. Apple wood smoke has the best flavor and that's what Ray uses. If you think Alaskan smoked salmon is delicious (usually alder wood smoked), think again. I'll bet they'd use apple wood for smoking salmon in Alaska if they had it.Ask Ray if you can view the river from his porch. If he has time, you might strike up a conversation and learn about his eel weir located a few hundred yards upstream. There are lots of snapshots of the weir in the smoke house. Did I mention that the shrimp are fantastic?

This is a neat little place tucked away in the woods. The owner is quite friendly and visiting his establishment was an absolute treat. The quality of his products is top notch and the service was fantastic! To say it's worth a look is an understatement. Do not miss out on the maple cream. You'll thank me later!

To all the reviewers who leave negative comments about him being rude and closed on Sundays. Its Sunday most businesses close at a reasonable time. And he is also human he has bad days and good days. I'm sure every reviewer isnt happy go lucky every single day. I've been there a dozen times and he has always gone out of his way to show my boys around the property. Amazing man which are getting harder to come by these days. When dudes like him are gone we will never get them back.

One of the rudest people I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. I was so excited to meet this man and try his food. I am beyond disappointed with our meeting, never before have I been treated so poorly for trying to support a business. Proprietor is the charmingly curmudgeonly, entertaining, and vastly knowledgeable Ray Turner - to say nothing of his love for the river or his expertise in catching and smoking the eels that live there. I only get to visit & shop about once a year, but it is an absolute must of a destination!

I visit this smokehouse in the woods (truly), about once a month to stock up on salmon, roasted garlic, cheese, preserves and bacon. The bacon isn't processed here, but it's cheaper than the supermarket, tastes much better and I love it sliced in quarter-inch slabs. I try something new each time i visit and am never disappointed. If you're looking for simply but carefully prepared goods without the suspect chemistry of mass production, you can't go wrong.

Love this place! Everything was soooo good!! The smoked shrimp is amazing!! Tastes like bacon! So easy to peel! We also got the smoked cheddar and smoked gouda, realized we should have bought the whole wheel. All our friends loved it also! And also get both kinds of smoked salmon, had a mouthgasm! Can't wait to try the smoked eel!!

First statement of greeting "are you vaccinated?" , "mask on and wash yr hand with soap and use sanitizer please before you can step in"Owner "greeted" us with his friend unmasked and with sceptism and racism tone. We came here to this wilderness out of no where due to Google introduction of dine in and as a restuarant. In the end, its not what it is on Google and found out the rude and unpolited way. Owner even sarcastically say don't know where we get out info from.....Doesn't hurt to be nice and be unstereotype

Places like Delaware Delicacies are very much off the beaten path. But one look for it and go there because there's nothing else like this. Most delicious food and a conversation with the owner - Ray Turner. Unfortunately, on the day I was there he had no smoked eel. And there are no predictable purchases - it's your luck. But I will be back despite a two hour drive.

You won't find better smoked goods, really. The smoked gouda was beyond any expectation of what delicious is. I had salmon and cheese for 3 days straight and didn't get tired of it.
