Authentic! So few places like this that aren’t simply trying to look like Morgans. While he’s got plenty of western wear, he’s a character (nice enough), and just walking through the place is a sensory challenge. Historic stuff everywhere.Middle of nowhere. Great place to stretch your legs and get a brand new pair of custom made leather laces!

Wade went out of glhis way to help me get what I need, ordered the things I wanted he didnt have in stock (which was a surprise, the spade has everything) all at a price that was more than fair. Will I be back? Yes, will I be bringing friends? Absolutely. 10/10 best store I have been to in the sand hills. If you need tack, guns, fishing stuff, a cold drink, or a new bill fold all can be found there in high quality.

I think this is the old Spade Ranch general store. I was here twice. Once as a child and once again when I was flying as a charter pilot to nearby Ogallalla (sic). The story of the Spade Ranch is a forgotten tale of fencing and public lands which went all the way to the Supreme Court. At one time the Spade ranch had land claims from New Mexico almost to the Canadian border. These claims were invalidated due to the government claiming the Spade folks had illegally fenced public land. This also played a major role in allowing more folks to homestead during our westward expansion.Anyway, this store is historically significant and sells everything from hats to snacks to ammunition.Someone more informed about Nebraska history can correct me about the historical trivia.
