Can't say enough good things about this place! Check their facebook page for current hours and menus. According to our waitress the menu can change on a weekly basis, as well as the hours. Our waitress was so nice and didn't miss an opportunity to refill our drinks. The atmosphere was quaint and gave homey, small-town vibes. Both of us enjoyed the food as well! I ordered the brisket, and for the money I spent, I thought I would get much much less. But I got several strips of smokey, juicy, and delicious meat with great sides. They are generous with their portions, as well as their smiles! If they are open at a convenient time for you, I'd highly recommend stopping in. I will be back!

The service and food was good. The tomato bisque soup had a strong tomato flavor, I personally prefer a bisque with a creamy base. The gumbo had a tomato base similar to that of a vegetable soup. The chicken salad on a croissant was a bit runny but had great flavor with bits of celery for a good crunch and the coleslaw was real good. The portion of meatballs and gratin potatoes was huge. The potatoes didn't have any sign of cheese and they were a bit dry, like the consistency of dry mashed potatoes. The meatballs had a good flavor and were good sized. I liked the art work displayed on the walls.

First time partaking in this lil gem! Family friendly, small town, country feel. The fried chicken was like momma made it with a side of real mashed potatoes, corn, roll and butter! Topped it off with pie! I would have loved to have banana or coconut cream but the apple and chocolate were delicious! Will be back!

Ate at their Saturday Prime Rib buffet. They have a 'single trip' or 'all you can eat' option for the prime rib. Took the single trip. Salad bar was all you can eat and had many delicious salads. For dessert I wanted to have the triple chocolate fluff pie, but they had just served the last piece. The wonderful waitress scraped a spoonful out of what was left in the pan and brought it to me. 😀 Will definitely reserve a piece upon arri al next time.

Yes, The Lyceum is really open. The menu is limited and changes daily, but the food is delicious and the service is great.Brownville is such a beautiful and historical place, we need to support all efforts to help keep this community alive and vibrant. The Lyceum is quirky, unexpected and fun! Also, new art displayed often, and it's all available for sale.

The entire staff was very gracious and nice and attentive. I was very indecisive on what to order and I am sad I didn't have the other items I did want. Which is a good sign of really good food. I chose the brisket sandwich and it was very good. I was able to try a bite of the prime rib sandwich and it was equally as good. The fried chicken looked and smelled delicious.

Brownsville isn't exactly on the way to anywhere, but it's a cute little town. This eatery appears to be one of few in town. Service is limited to 11-2 Tuesday thru Sunday. Limited menu of sandwiches and lunch items. Good prices for good food. A solid value. Well worth visiting if you're in the area around lunch hour

We went on a Sunday afternoon in the fall after visiting Indian Caves. The service was good, the seating was very cramped, like an eat and get out type of place. It was more of a Sunday lunch menu with fried chicken and ham loaf (think of a frozen white/dark meat turkey loaf) being the only options. $10 a plate was kind of surprising. The chicken was good, the ham loaf tasted like cardboard injected spam.

This is an interesting Cafe an book store, new and vintage, I was not aware of the word Lyceum, so I asked the owner and she explained that Lyceum was an eatery where intellectuals came to meet, have a good meal and discuss books, such as the classics, also such authors as Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Sylvia Platt etc. They would talk for hours, discussing their opinions, writing form, technique and much more. The name has remained over many years. We found it to be a wonderful stop on our journey through Brownville . This town sets on the banks and wood covered hills of the Missouri River. It tends to be artsy and somewhat Bohemian which I fell in love with years ago on my 1st visit. This town had a lot of damage from the 2018 flood. However it recovered and I believe it is in better condition than ever. Thank God. If you get to Brownville we hope you enjoy it !!!Vegetarian options: Create your ownKid-friendliness: If they're well behaved. The hours advertised did not match the hours they are actually open. It was a former bookstore, but no longer allowed to roam through the books. The original atmosphere that was here on my last visit is totally gone. It was a great old bookstore, where you could grab a beer and look through the stacks, with some great finds in the dusty corners, now it is just another yuppie eatery. Drove all the way there for the advertised two story bookstore and was turned away...after waiting thirty minutes for it to open thirty minutes after it states it will open. Very, very disappointed.

Service was great, food was good, prices just a tad high. We ordered 2 hamburgers, 1 salad, 2 tea drinks and the bill was right at $29. The atmosphere was great. Everything was great just a bit expensive.

Every summer my friend and I make a trip to Brownville. We have lunch at this very cute diner, then go have wine at Whiskey Creek Winery. The food is very good and the winery is charming.
