Horrible. Every time I go there I swear it will be my last. Unfortunately, I like to disappoint myself…There hasn’t been one time I’ve gone into the store and they have had product on the shelves to sell. Constantly out of product. Not only out, but never to reappear again.I can’t stress this enough, they will not have what you’re looking for and they will be rude about it.You have the only actual hardware store in town. Stock it with product. Give us an actual reason to go inside and buy something instead of leaving pissed and disappointed.

−1 is my review.My advice for everybody,DON'T SHOP at Jeff's,True value store here in Platte City.I actually work next To Lowe's hardware store Home depot and also Menards so many choices. but since I live in Platte City I try to do as much business as I can here to support my neighbors.A couple of weeks ago I was at the store and I actually ran into Jeff's son which by the way is very nice. I explained to him that my toilet flush lever was broken and I needed to replace it he asked me the brand of my toilet which of course I had no clue. He asked me the shape of the toilet also the age of my home trying to figure out which one might work. He opened one of the package and said this is Probably the one that will work,.But if it doesn't bring it back and I will return it no problem.I left and thought my problems were solved.But sadly enough it did not work days later I went back to return it and ended up running into Jeff the owner.Can't believe this man is in business.When I try returning he would not return it even though I explained to him I wasn't the one that opened the package.So for $7.49 He lost a customer.And I do intend to report this to the Better Business Bureau.Because my receipt does not indicate his return policy.This is not about the $7.49 this is about the principle. I wish I would have read all the reviews prior to shopping there .

This place is so disrespectful to their customers it's pitiful. I will never go there again. I rented a uhaul truck from here, and they took all of our info the night before to reserve it. The next morning I had to go through the process again to get the truck. They sent a message on my phone to a link for the uhaul site. So I filled it out to okay the truck before I left. We filled out an estimate of the mileage that I would be driving and I signed the paperwork.I went over the milage, and I knew I would have to pay more for the overage.When I got back to drop off the truck after hours. I followed the link for returning the truck and at the end it gives you the new bill. My new bill had the extra mileage added so I paid it at the end. This morning I looked at my bank statement and Jeff's uhaul charged me an additional $105 on top off the increase of what I paid the night before. When I called to ask questions the kid on the phone said "it's not their fault call uhaul" and then hung up the phone on me. I called back and talked to the owner Jeff. I told him the situation and he proceeded with the same rudeness as his kid employee. Jeff will talk over you and not let you speak when your trying to ask him questions. If this is how he treats customers then NO ONE should be his customer. Also this link they send you to fill out for the uhaul, Jeff says it's optional and it's the customers fault for filling it out so if something is wrong it's the customers fault not his. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!Rent from an actual uhaul provider not a second hand store.

Called before hand and asked if they had a product. Long story short I show up and they don't have it. I asked the employees who are all huddled up by the cash register if I'm just blind. Instead of helping me the lazy employees tell me the complete wrong isle. They never had the product in the first place and I'm pretty sure they never even looked when I called the first time. Just lazy all around and disrespectful of customers time. Go to running horse instead.

This used to be my go to place. After it sold it is now run by unhelpful kids. Hell, today they were smoking inside the store. I had my 7 year old grandson with me. Too bad, went from the best to the worst. I will never set foot in the place again. Good bye!

It should be no ⭐. I wanted to rent a dingo, was giving wrong info, after making 2 trips, then Jeff refuses to rent it to me. Because I asked how to operate it, really because I'm a female. He has no idea all the equipment I have run. Just because I asked him to give me a quick run down on the operaton. Who would not ask that?. Never ever will I do business there.

Bad experience. Won’t ever be back. Had a space heater that quit working. Tried to exchange it with receipt at about 34 days after purchase. Was told NO and the package had been opened…duh! I returned with original packaging but the Manager Bobbie said it’s store policy and refused any assistance. No returns if you open the package or if it’s after 30 days. Store Manager Bobbie was unprofessional and rude. So much for trying to buy from local businesses and paying 20% more than what the item could be bought at a big box store. Disappointing to say the least.

Called about renting a Uhaul trailer. Lady couldn't be bothered to take my info over the phone and referred me to the Uhaul website. Jeff, if you're going to provide the service then you need to do it over the phone as well.

I reserved tables and chairs for the 4th of July, I asked if they were open on the 4th they said no, so I picked them up on the 3rd at 4pm, returned on the 5th at 11:18am, charged me 2 days rental when they were not even open on the 4th, my opinion is this is bad business, taking advantage of the customer. I would have picked them up on the 4th, I'm done doing business with them.

I called on a Sunday to reserve a UHaul for the following Friday. I was told to call back Monday or Tuesday to make the reservation because the UHaul I requested was currently rented out and I could not make a reservation until it was returned. I asked if the employee could request another UHaul from another location to be in Platte City on Friday and I was told he could not. I asked if my name could be saved and they could call me when the UHaul was returned and he said he could not but he would take my name and put it on a “sticky note” at the UHaul desk. I called Tuesday and the UHaul had been reserved for the days I initially requested but the second employee told me that the first employee should have been able reservation for me from he beginning but since he did not there was nothing he could do. He said he would try to get another UHaul from another city in and I should call back Thursday if I didn’t hear from him prior. Conveniently when I called back on Thursday the second employee was not working that day and I spoke to the first employee who told me he did not see any record of the second employee trying to obtain another UHaul from a different location and the only think I could do was call back to see if it was not picked up by the need of the day. I called as requested and I was told it had been picked up already and I should probably just pick one up from Tiffany Springs. I’m disappointed in the lack of customer service and communication.

The only location to provide fasteners needed for a project, None of the big box stores such as Home Depot, Menards, or Ace had any on hand of what I needed in stock! Excellent customer service!

After being a customer for over decade, I have to go somewhere else.I had one employee argue with me that there was no such thing as weed and feed. When I walked over to the aisle and asked him to join me, I pointed it our to him.My last trip... not only wasn't I helped but the man taking to me... perhaps the owner... began to bash another local store... came out of nowhere. I was offended and couldn't believe how childish. Three employees stood at the cash register as I asked three times if someone could please help me. Nasty tone and impatien on their part. What a shame.I support all local businesses so I don't like leaving negative feedback.But I've never been to a hardware store where a grown man, again maybe the owner, had no clue what horn worms were... even after explaining they are the big green caterpillars that destroy tomatoes.I hope they figure out that customers aren't happy and make positive changes.

We try to shop local whenever we can. Over the years we have given Jeff’s True Value a ton of business. We will not be going back though, even if it means driving all the way to Home Depot or Lowe’s.On Saturday, March 6, we purchased a plumbing part. It turned out to be the wrong size. We tried to return it and the (unmasked) clerk rudely said they can’t except returns if the package had been opened. What?!? What kind of customer service is that?Good bye. We are done shopping at Jeff’s.

Recently moved to the area, and I always try to go to local stores for my needs if possible.. but I won’t be returning. The young employees seemed really nice, but I’m not going to shop somewhere that I can’t return/exchange something I purchased less than a day beforehand, opened or not.

When into Jeff's to buy an item that cost less then 5 dollars. Was bluntly told that anything less then 5 dollars must be cash. That it costs 60 cents for every charge. Not having cash I walked out. Came another day same situation. Offered to pay 60 extra cents. Offered to let him charge me 5 dollars. Was arrogantly told 'nat 'nat can't do that. I try to support my towns business. But I will never go to Jeff's. I'll spend the gas for the respect. Or lack of disrespect.

I try my best to give this little store the benefit of the doubt but each time I have to interact with them devolves into a negative experience. The only reason I don’t give them 1 star is because as long as I know exactly what I need and don’t have to interact with them, I can usually get in and get out. I avoid this place like the plague but sometimes I find myself foolishly giving them another chance. If you know what you need then we Platte Cityers generally say that you are ok, but if you end up needing to deal with them on anything then you should expect to be disappointed. I think I’ve had about all I can take with asking them for assistance or dealing with their rentals. Unfortunate as this is a convenient location. They simply don’t find it important to deliver on quality customer service. The things that come out of their tenured staff’s mouths can be alarming. Very short, sharp tones and passive aggressive. Their teen and various seasonal staff will check you out with a decent enough attitude most of the time but their tenured staff lacks basic Customer interaction skills. This is an accountability and training issue simply put, and I don’t see that they have the customer service aptitude to even begin to address this issue. Back to Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Don't waste your time here. Just go ahead and drive to the city. I needed some PVC pipe and they won't even cut it. I offered to buy the whole thing as long as they would cut it as I don't have a saw(small apartment) and the employee that was standing there in the aisle to "help" me said "Nope, I'm too busy." He was literally just standing there doing NOTHING. And this is not the first time I've had to deal with pure laziness and ineptitude from this establishment, but I guarantee it will be last. Do yourself a favor and avoid Jeff's Lazy Value at all costs.

I moved here to the Plate City area in January and have done a lot of small things to the house, and, Jeff's is always my go-to place for anything I need. It's a fairly small store, but, they've never NOT had what I needed! I've also used their Uhaul services twice, now.I've never walked in without being welcomed by the cashier and asked by at least one associate if I needed help finding anything.Thanks everyone at Jeff's!!

After many years of filling my propane cylinders at Jeff's, I was quite surprised today to be told that 20 lbs. of propane will not fit in a 20 lb. propane cylinder. Last time I checked a 20 lb. cylinder will hold 20 lbs. of propane. Apparently not any more at Jeff's. If you refill your cylinders there, be sure to check the weight. The tank weighed 18 lbs. empty and I was informed that it was full at 35 lbs., so I paid for 20 lbs. and received 17 lbs. Fool me once...

Uncommon fairness and customer service!! I don’t usually write reviews, but my experience at Jeff’s True Value has compelled me to do so. I had a big DIY project that required a large piece of equipment. I had never rented anything from Jeff, but after shopping around I found myself at his True Value. His rental price was by far the best around, but for various reasons (weather, scheduled maintenance, extended usage by others, etc.) I was unable to obtain it after a couple of attempts. To say Jeff bent over backwards to help me complete my project is an UNDERSTATEMENT. As if that was not enough, based on my actual usage, he offered to REDUCE the price we agreed upon when the equipment was returned. I was floored!! I had received so much value out of the transaction I turned down his offer. You only get this type of service from a small, locally owned business. Good prices + uncommon customer service = customer for life!

First of all we noticed a sign on the door saying mask must be worn at all times. We do not have a problem with it at all. Once inside we noticed none of the employees were wearing them. I asked the employee Logan about it and he said that they have the sign because they have to because of truvalue. But they dont follow it. We then went to take care of picking up the uhaul trailer we reserved. Logan was rude and tried to charge us $60 more then what we were told. I told him that wasn't right, he became combative, started shaking his head. The manager came over was a little more helpful but not happy he was helping us. He cursed and was angry he had to help. I do not recommend this company at all. AVOID

We took our push lawn mower in to have it serviced (blade sharpening and an oil change). We were told it would be no more than $30.00 for the complete service. We were told it would be done in a day to two days; it took 8 days to complete the service. When we went to pick it up it was $68.00. The cashier could not explain why it was higher than normal. But she did admit that is was higher than normal. She told us the owner Jeff would be in on Monday and he would speak to us about the charges. He was not in the store on Monday; we called on Tuesday and Wednesday. We finally received a phone call back on Wednesday. He said that was the normal cost. We like to shop local, but it is obvious Jeff is not interested in keeping his customers happy. Do not trust this store. WE WILL TAKE OUR BUSSINESS ELSEWHERE!

I rented a Uhaul from another place in Leavenworth and realized I needed a bigger truck. Jeff and his staff had a bigger truck and very quickly help me setup the trucks to transfer from the smaller to the larger. He offered us water and continuously checked on us to see if we needed anything. I've never experienced a higher level of customer service.

I’ve shopped here for years and I always receive absolutely phenomenal customer service. They always ask you what your looking for and know exactly where it is in the store.This week, I stopped in to pickup a new chain for my chainsaw. Took in my old chain and was told they could sharpen it up and save me some money. Typically you drop off you chain and go back and pick it up. I was needing a tree down that day, so I was going to buy a spare chain anyway. Roxie asked me if I had 10 minutes to wait and sharpened my chain for me while I waited. This eagerness to take care of their customers is what keeps me going back to this place.

Wouldn’t make a duplicate car key because I hadn’t brought the vehicle with me. Claimed it would “waste a blank” if he couldn’t check the new key immediately. Don’t know how he deals with house keys!!
