This was an extremely fun experience! We drove up from St. Louis just to dig for a while. The owner is so nice and really wants you to have an enjoyable time. He showed us where to dig and checked out our equipment to make sure we were all set. It's $25 per person and each person can leave with 50 lbs of geodes... we only left with 25lbs each which was still more than enough (we are not doing this to make money). I recommend this to anyone who is ready for an adventure and to get a bit dirty.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience digging geodes here! The owner was so sweet and helpful. He gave us great pointers about what to bring, and how to find the pockets of geodes. Come ready to work and willing to put in some time. Our patience and efforts really paid off! We were all very happy with all the geodes we found. We will be sure to return and recommend Shefflers to everyone we know. Also, the price cannot be beat!

The man was really nice, if he has time he will try and talk with you as much as he can. I love the experience, you do have to guess where to dig and wish for luck, but everyone that was there left with a really good amount of geodes. I didn’t have a good shovel, a tiny one, I’d recommend a big one with gloves but I dug at a hole for 3 1/2 not including breaks I had, but I LOVE what I found. They are all over, just dig! There’s some I need to clean up more and pictures don’t bring any justice to how beautiful these rocks are but I just showed pictures for you guys to get an idea of what’s there and how much I found. He also told me not to break one open because it was a cool fossil, I forgot what it was called 😭 I should have wrote down what he told me but I did keep it whole, maybe I’ll be able to find out what it was again and look more into it. But if he has time to look at your rocks when your done he will try to be informative about what you got.

Tim is very friendly and runs this small business. The shop is currently closed for construction but the geoed dig site is open. It was my first time digging for geoedes, I had a blast digging for geodes and filled my bucket full. Call ahead and let him know you are coming. Bring your own shovel, crowbar, hammer, 5 gallon buckets gloves and shade. No bathrooms. I will return for more fun.

It was our first time digging for geodes and we did very well. The owner was very kind and helpful. We are planning our next trip back to the pit soon with the kids

Great experience, super nice owner, it's impossible to not dig up geodes here. Plan to get nice and dirty and don't be afraid to bring real stuff to dig with. You WILL need good shovels, and a mattock or a pickaxe. If you only bring gardening tools you'll be unable to get into the shale. Others you encounter here digging are all too friendly and it's fun to share what you are digging up.

It's hard work, but is really cool. If it's your first time, ask around for a seasoned digger. It will make a huge difference with your experience. We probably pulled out about 100 pounds of geodes today.

Kiddo and I had a good time on our first geode-hunting adventure. Make sure you bring tools, buckets, and water, as it gets warm out there. The owner is a knowledgeable guy who seems genuinely pleased to talk to eager Rockhounds, both young and old. This was worth the drive from Leavenworth!

This place was great! The owner was very informative and the nicest man we've ever met. He answered any questions we had.We went in a group of 4, this was our very first time. Stayed for 4 hours, and got 2 buckets between us all. It was a lot of work and we are not experts, but we enjoyed every bit of it. Definitely will continue to go back.If you are not willing to put in the work of finding geodes, this place is not for you. We saw a few people give up real quick.

An absolutely great time for both kids and adults! We got some great geodes, and Tim was very patient and kind to the kids. He kept in touch with us to make sure that the weather was appropriate for our dig, and took the time to explain things to us and give us some tips. Really appreciated his positivity, and can’t recommend this place enough.

Went to dig for geodes today for the first time. Wasn't real sure what to expect but everything went well. There was 6 of us and we all found some keepers.

This place is great! Tim was very nice and went over what to do. Bring tools with you to get through the shale. Found a sweet spot and left with a happily filled bucket. Well worth it. Hours right now are 9-5pm each day but you have to call and setup ahead of time- I called and was able to hunt for geodes the same day.

Very poor directions as to the location. No signs nor address posted. Elderly man who ran the business was extremely vague on all aspects. Would not recommend at all.

This was a great experience! We didn't end up with a lot of geodes to take with us, bit we ended up having a blast. We also got to meet some wonderful other people who were there geode hunting. We weren't very successful as it was our first time geode hunting, but everyone was friendly and some other were very friendly and offered some advice.

My wife and I done this adventure and had a great time. There's a little work that goes along with it, but with the correct tools and some patience we harvested around 75 lbs of geodes in about 5 hrs. Added bonus is it's close to Hannibal MO so we went there also!

Not a happy camper. My sister's and I paid a total of 75.00, dug for two hours and found 1 medium and 3 very small geodes. Don't waste your time or your money.

We went as a family with our boys 8, 5 & 3. It was hard work but once you find a geode, you don't want to quit! It was a rewarding experience. Make sure you call ahead to find out the prices and what tools to bring. Wear old clothes!

We had a great time this week hanging out at the mine. It had rained recently so was muddy but came home with more geodes then we will ever need. Tim was kind, friendly, and knowledgeable.

Went with my family and had a great time. To make sure you have a great time, realize that this isnt easy work...very doable and exciting when you find the recognizeable orb shape, but even when the shale is easily split, its hard and hot work. You're going to get hot and sweaty--at least if you go in July! We had a rewarding experience and found a 5 gal bucket full of geodes over the course of 3 or 4 hours with many that were hollow and had great crystal structures, and several that were very unique! Tim pointed us in the right direction and was more tham willing to give tips as needed. I havent been to any of the other local places where you can dig, but my experience here was great! Well worth the detour if you are passing near Keokuk!

My son was very into rocks and Crystals so we went to dig our own. Got a whole 5 gallon bucket to take home and break open. Most were quartz but we havent opened them all yet. It's hard work, but if your willing to work you'll find them

Great place to mine geodes. We found a bunch and had fun. Be prepared to get dirty. It's a good idea to use the restroom before you get to the dig site.

Drove all the way there to find out it wasn’t $25 per bucket of geodes, but $25 per person! We just wanted to fill one bucket but it would have cost us $100. Drive 25 minutes more and go to Jacobs! Very disappointed!!!!

Nice place to visit. Rock hounds will know they can buy stones cheaper online but buy something anyway just to help another. Still enjoyed it and some of the big stones are great to have seen in person.
