I would caution anyone that is looking for a nice, clean, quiet stay in Hermann. The Harbor Haus cottage is none of those things. We stayed there years ago and it has gone downhill drastically since. You are right on the main drag, so it is noisy. But the worst part is the poor level of cleanliness. Filthy looking stained sheets on one of the beds. Cobwebs in several rooms. Vent covers hanging or not at all attached to units. Ants in the kitchen. No outlets in one of the two bathrooms. Main bathroom (with outlets) has broken light fixture, making it hard to see yourself while getting ready. No toilet paper holder in there either. No plates and very few silverware. No dish towels or paper towels in the kitchen. DECAF coffee only. I have three bug bites I didn't have before this trip. Honestly would like to give it zero stars but I don't have the heart to. We would've consulted mgmt/owner but see there are lots of other reviews like ours, so they don't care. It's such a cute town with great wineries, great food options. We made the best of a very gross situation. For $700+ 2 night stay we were taken advantage of.

Location was okay and walkable to most places. When we arrived we went to the desk and spoke to a woman who was confused why we were checking in in person, but thankfully we did or else we would NOT have known we had to enter through the library just to get to our room. Breakfast isn't served after Nov 1st which was a bummer. Room was right by the street and you could hear every single person who walked by and it was pretty noisy. Our room was very outdated and didn't have any soap so we had to ask for some. However, the room was clean. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, especially when you're 18 weeks pregnant. I woke up every morning with a sore back/neck & a migraine. From the outside its charming, but could use some updating. Will probably be back to Hermann but unfortunately won't be staying here again.

Would NOT recommend. If you think you are booking a cute little antique cottage room, you are wrong. The room was just plain old and gross. We were very uncomfortable staying there, so much so that we left a night early. We also experienced terrible customer service with them double booking our room and not telling us, when they had almost 3 months to do so. We drove 4 hours expecting to stay in the loft room that we had already paid $330/night for to find out we were instead in a standard room. It's been 3 weeks and we still haven't received the refund.

My friend and I booked this place for a Saturday overnight, September 30th. For $330 we were in a "cottage" which is a one bedroom, two bath house divided into two units. The bed was comfortable enough and the linens seemed clean, but the rest was filthy. Hair on the floor, dirty bathroom floors to include blood droplets, dirty toilet, dead spiders in the shower and more....Old and outdated is one thing but the cleanliness cannot be over looked. It is not a cute, quaint cottage that should reflect that price! Staff was pleasant and I am sure it is difficult to find employees, but maybe the owner should take a more vested interest in the upkeep of his property. Great location, walking distance to trolley stop and restaurants.

First off, let me say that the owners/staff of this place are VERY nice. The accommodations were not. The rooms were so incredibly dated, (not charming) the thermostat was so inconsistent, no instructions for how to operate them. Either burning hot or freezing cold. The beds were not comfortable, no warm blankets on the beds and it was 17 degrees outside. The shower looked mildewed. (I did not use it!) No soap in the shower. One hand pump of Dial liquid soap on the sink and the towels must have been 50 years old at least. I don’t like giving poor reviews but I would not stay here again. It’s in such a great location but it needs a complete renovation.

Breakfast was pretty good. Staff was friendly and personable. However, I got stung by a wasp while there because of a wasp nest right outside of our room. We notified staff and they did take care of it promptly. Also...the heater in the bathroom that we thought did not work sent a volt of electricity that would put anybody on the floor. Thank goodness for rubber shoes, but it was pretty scary. No soap for shower, only a half used bottle of V05...which was weird. Bed pretty firm and not really comfortable. No phone or microwave, which really wasn't a big deal for us. Location was pretty good. Was walking distance to the piano bar and 1837 Cellar Bar that had live music. Overall, not the worst experience we have ever had, but definitely not the best. For the price, it was ok...I guess. If you are just looking a place to sleep for the night and recoup from day drinking...it is probably alright.

Warning…. Awful place to stay, no outlets but 2 which are in bedroom , to use my hair straightener I had to unplug tv! Also we left after first night , we booked 2 night which were non refundable ! Also as we were packing we saw bugs in the bed! I’m praying it wasn’t bed bugs! And if so this place is going to have a law suit! I’ve cleaned washed and vacuumed everything since I’ve gotten home! Also the have large billboards advertising them…. Do Not let it fool you! Worst place I’ve ever stayed in my life!!!

Great price, friendly staff, comfy enough bed.At less than $100 per night are people really complaining about an old TV and thin towels? This is an INN... In a 180yr old building at that! It's not a luxury hotel. It's a great value. If you hate old buildings, thin towels or NEED a smart TV because you don't have a laptop/tablet, then maybe you won't like it here. Or Europe.

This place is absolutely lovely! The room was gorgeously decorated and we LOVED the pillows! Their complimentary breakfast is yummy and the ladies that we met in the office were a joy to chat with! They have menus for most of the local restaurants there so you can sit in the office and find a good meal and anticipate the pricing. Oh! And the fire was delightful!! Will definitely be coming back!!

We made arrangements to stay in May of this year but had a family issue that we could not come and when I called to cancel they told me that they had already charged my card so that we had a overnight stay coming and a credit on the books. So we started calling a month ago knowing that we were coming this weekend to stay in Herman. We could not get anyone to answer the phone and we left multiple messages. So we decided to drive down and see if the Harbor House was open for business and we did find two very nice ladies that told us at the harbor house was available and had rooms to rent. We told them we would take a room for the evening and when we returned back at 6 PM, we was told that our room was already occupied. They was very rude and we will never go to this hotel again.

I have NEVER stayed at a more friendly and welcoming Inn. The owner Frank has really spared no expense at making the inside dining room a work of art with all kinds of cool items to see, feel, and plain old be neat to look at. The breakfast was wonderful and had a nice selection. There was plenty of food and seating. It was from 0800-0900am. The actual room that I stayed in was just fine. The two beds and a small refrig and a hot shower were just what was needed. It is not a luxury place at all, but it was clean and functional and that works for me. At dusk every day the management lights a fire outdoors and supplies marshmallows and skewers. It was a very positive experience. I recommend and would stay there again.

Room: Needs to be updated. We had a non flat 19" TV with 10 channels. Towels were so thin, you could see through them. Bed was comfortable. Internet was very slow.Breakfast: Okay, nothing special. We stayed Sun and Mon nights no breakfast. No information on where to eat. We were told to go to the Amtrak station and figure it out.Room for Saturday was way over priced for what you got. Price for Sun and Mon was okay.Staff is not very friendly. Acted like they could careless. They had your money, so they didn't have to be friendly or helpful. We will return to Hermann nice weekend, but will not stay here.

We loved our stay. The room we stayed in and the office where breakfast was served were so cozy and made you feel at home. The staff is so friendly and helpful. We were warned when we booked about the stairs going up to our room being small and steep so that was upfront but they were not joking. The stairs going up to room 19 were very steep, more than what was expected. The room itself we enjoyed though, it had a covered private balcony that overlooked market street, which was a nice suprise and we enjoyed it. The location was also great. We would stay again when we go back to Hermann.

Very rude receptionist "Debbie" at check in. Refilled soap containers with water instead of soap in bathroom. Lots of ants in bathroom. Very old bedding. Room was not attended during 2 day stay and had to reuse our towels. Breakfast had runny egg whites. No thermostat in room. We froze until they turned heat on then baked all night. Other customers partying outside our window loudly until 4am.For $333 we expected more. Left a review and comments on provided document in room. Still haven't heard from owner or management.

I really do not like to post negative reviews, but I do believe there is a lot of information you should have before booking here. I encourage you to look around at other options that will cost the same, but provide a much different experience in Hermann. If you are told that all other places are booked, do not believe it. If you are told that all other places will charge you even if you have to cancel, do not believe it.Harbor Haus is so outdated that it doesn’t come across as quaint, antique, or quirky, but screams of just old & tired. The beds are old and lean to one side. The sheets are so old you could see through them, plus they are all different colors. The towels are so old & rough that they should have been retired as garage rags years ago. The upholstered furniture is so old that we were afraid to sit on it. The windows are so old that they let cold air in. The carpeting feels so old that that we were afraid to walk on it in bare feet. The pictures on the walls were old and faded & looked like they came from Goodwill. The entire place smelled musty and old & the heat did not keep the bedrooms warm. It was very cold in there! We stayed in the”cottage” which was not clean. There was an inch of dust on the ceiling fans and in the heat grates. The coffee pot was dirty and the 60s style stove covers were sticky and greasy. The floors are uneven, some doors would not latch closed, and there were lights that would not turn off. There is absolutely no attention to detail or interest in making guests comfortable. The sign on the wall to guests suggesting breakfast places listed all but one restaurant that had been closed. The trash bags are lined with shop and save grocery bags. Plungers sit in buckets next to the toilets. There is no bath soap and hand soap is clearly a watered down version of Dollar General‘s cheapest brand.Guest amenities is a term that is very misleading. You will be told that there are robes for guests, however, they look like they came from Goodwill many years ago. They are weird colors & prints with bleach stains & hanging threads. The televisions are 12 inch, non- flatscreens. Hot water in the shower will only last about 2 minutes. so forget about rinsing shampoo (that you brought because none is available) out of your hair or having a second person try to take a hot shower. (By the way, the showerhead is chest high at best.) Fire pits are listed as an amenity, however, it is one small fire pit on the sidewalk next to the street. The front desk is not accommodating at all. (When we asked the front desk clerk how to operate cable on the TVs, she said that televisions are not even in most of the Hermann B&B rooms. When we asked her about a good place to eat steak in Hermann, she replied that you don’t really eat steak in Hermann.)Sadly, the place that you stay can make 100% difference in how your Hermann experience will be. Our suggestion is to do your homework and stay somewhere else.

This place was amazing. Me and buddy went on a bike trip on the trail, and needed an emergency place to crash in for the night. They we the only ones with availability and took us in. The rooms were on the older side, but I really could care less about that. The breakfast in the morning was awesome. The staff was extremely friendly, and extremely helpful. Definitely recommend this place, and Hermann in general as a place to stay.

Outstanding staff and decor. Our room was a wonderful stay. Not at all updated, just perfect. Great night sleep!! The little window AC worked fine even at 98 °. Frank and Ava absolutely made breakfast like you are at home. There are so many places to stay in Hermann, but this is where we will return

I will admit, when my parents decided to make a stop in Hermann, MO for a night's rest on our road trip home from a wedding in Chicago (They have had a couple of weekend wine trips there and will not stop talking about it)... being a city girl, I was skeptical...And then they gave me the task to find a place to stay. Every B&B and hotel was either booked or over priced, and then I found the last two available rooms in town at Harbor Haus. When we showed up to check in, Debbie at the front desk offered us the 3rd floor suite at no extra charge, and I'm so glad she did! We pretty much had our own apartment on the top floor of a mid 1800s building, and the heart and soul of Hermann coursed through that space. It was so eclectic and awesome... and so clean and comfortable! Debbie invited us to come sit by the fire outside after we grabbed some dinner, because there would be marshmallows to roast (my daughter was super excited about that) and even called me to make sure our room wasn't too hot! Once we got back to the Inn, we sat around the fire and chatted with some of the guests and had a great time. The bed was so comfortable and I have to admit, that was one of the best sleeps I've had on the road! (I'm a flight attendant and that says a lot!)... and breakfast was included! At breakfast, we got to meet Frank, the owner, and I really enjoyed hearing my dad and Frank share their stories of their parent's immigration to the US from Germany. Hermann is a really cool little town, and Harbor Haus is an absolute gem. I am still smiling from the experience. I look forward to my next visit! Thank you, Harbor Haus! <3

I thought for the price it was great! Our room even had a little mini fridge which was great for chilling our wine. The woman at the front desk was really nice. Room was small but very clean. I can see were people would think it's out dated but....it's a bed and breakfast in a historic town. I found it cute and charming :)

After a bad experience somewhere else in Hermann my 10 friends and I needed a place to stay quickly. Harbor Haus was more than accommodating and very friendly. Immediately the Bride to be and everyone else felt at home and comfortable. Their houses make you feel safe and they have plenty of sleeping areas! They were also right next to the Trolley stop and a walking distance from lots of places to shop, eat, and drink. If we are every back in Hermann we will be staying here! Also breakfast included was a major plus!!

Very comfortable room and bed. The owners are very accommodating just ask them what you need. They also serve a limited breakfast on the weekends.

This is a historic hotel in the heart of Hermann. It's quaint, and very comfortable. Most of all the owners are so friendly and personable. And if you stay here don't miss out on their breakfast! Big kudos to the chef! It is also within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and winery's!

Enjoyed the nostalgic feel. Breakfast was really good and tasty. I would suggest you being a large dark blanket or towel to put over the window at least for room#2. The light on the outside is so bright at night it kept me awake. You would think they would have put up dark curtains up to keep out that light for guest, but no they have think white curtains. The bed was ok. I would stay again they're but would plan ahead and bring something for the window. However, I would hope the owner would attempt to fix this issue so others wouldn't be caught of guard like us.

Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are outdated but very comfortable and well kept. It is located in a great spot and just steps away from everything. We will definitely stay here again. Breakfast is the only negative we really have. It was delicious but it was the same thing every morning and we would have liked a variety.

Stayed for our anniversary. We had the top floor of the Nestle Inn. 3br, 1-1/2 bath, great shower pressure and hot water. Great WiFi and a/c. If coming in winter there is a fireplace also - gas maybe? The master bedroom had an amazingly comfortable king bed and nice sitting area. It was 2 blocks to the west of the main road so we avoided a lot of noise and had a peaceful night. We weren’t able to get moving on time for breakfast (8-9:30 served at the main office), so we caught breakfast elsewhere, but I would work harder to take advantage of the free breakfast in the future. The rooms were clean and tidy. One of the 4 rooms was made for dining with a table for 4, a small fridge and coffee maker. They also provide some board games and cards in the dining room. The coffee I made, after realizing breakfast would be missed, was wonderful. We really felt like we had been welcomed into a happy home. We even have the same philosophy regarding the refilling/reusing of shampoo and conditioner containers. I didn’t notice if there was any soap provided for bathing as I brought my own. We appreciate Jessica, Donna, Frank, and Debbie for making our stay so great. Thank you!

Awesome location! Room was clean and the staff was super friendly. The room needs some upgrades. The television was a 13 inch box tv. No thermostat. The light outside the door doesn't shut off at night. The bed wasnt very comfortable but there were lots of pillows. Breakfast was simple but very good.
