Absolutely spectacular golf course. A must play in Minnesota and should be on every Minnesota golfers bucket list. River and Canyon renovation is fantastic. White pristine bunker sand really pops when you are standing on the tee boxes.I'm only giving it a 4 star because the pro shop employee was rather rude when we checked in. It really started the round on a sour note. I will say that Mary, the starter, was so friendly and nice.All in all a fantastic course, I will definitely be back for a round in the fall 🍁.

First time to play golf ⛳️ in a real field. I didn’t know there are other places to see here like the lake and a bridge. 😍I enjoyed but id recommend going during summer. The cold wind 💨 is killing the fun. 🙁You can also find clothes, gloves and shoes and other equipments you need in their shop.😊

Great views and fun layout. Renovation by Jeffrey Brauer is fantastic. Deserves a top 10 public course in Minnesota rating now. Keeps getting better every year with incredible views of Lake Superior. A Must Play in Minnesota and the North Shore in the Fall just can't be beat.

BEAUTIFUL! Had a great time golfing here. Very challenging course with lot’s of elevation. Great views of Lake Superior on many of the holes. The Canyon course was spectacular! Course was in great shape. Though it will cost you over a $100 to play 18 I thought it was worth it.

Beautiful course in the fall season. Course is both challenging & breathtaking! Service inside was very welcoming. Starter was informative & kind. Twelve of us took a trip from the city just to try it out. Maybe the fall season is not the best time because lodging everywhere were scarce & overly priced. The only drawback we had about the course was that the greens were super slow & we didn’t understand why so.

Waste of Money and Time - I drove almost 4 hours to get there, AFTER I called ahead to inquire about the condition of the course. The pro shop man described it as in outstanding shape. Misleading, at best. There are three nines. The Canyon 9 is closed. The mountain 9 is all but unplayable. Deep ruts, holes, dead and dying turf and bunkers half filled with rock hard black dirt. This nine should also be closed. I was charged $72 with tax, which is deplorable for nine playable holes ( River 9 ) in the middle of nowhere. No wonder I was almost alone out there on a day when the weather was perfect.

Super friendly and course in great shape. I played River and Canyon courses. Canyon course is most picturesque with some awesome views. Two par 3s have huge elevation drops which makes it a lot of fun. I was very pleased with everything for the 3 rounds in 3 days I played.

Without a doubt, the number 1 must play course in the state since the renovation. 5 tee boxes allow all to play this course. Winding along and over the Poplar River with views of Lake Superior, golf sometimes becomes the 2nd best thing you are doing that day! We played the River/Canyon 18 in late June of 2018. The course really gives you everything you want in a golf course. From winding fairways with well protected greens to some tight, need to think about your shot situations. The new greens were laid out perfect for the design of each hole. As you play the last 5 holes, stop at 14 and take a 360 picture, then enjoy the best last 5 holes of any golf course. And do not forget to play the Mountain 9 which also has foot golf! Heath and the staff in the fantastic clubhouse look forward to your visit.

Pictures don’t do it justice. This course is amazing. With views of Lake Superior on 22 of 27 holes you’re always in for an experience. Highly recommend this be on your Minnesota to play list.

My younger child and I played 9 holes on the Mountain course on 10/7. It was a beautiful morning for some fall golf along the shore. The views of Lake Superior made the green fees worth it. We will be back again for future rounds.

Played the River and newly remodeled Canyon. Both in pretty good shape. Employees are nice and food is fresh. Views are outstanding on mostly ever hole

Played twice in August, 2018: The views are spectacular - but you already know that. The greens are not particularly fast, but roll nicely. All the putts break to the lake - even when they appear not to. The teeboxes and fairways are clay-based and quite hard. Not the typical sand/peat mix of a resort course. Staff was friendly, pace was fine. Did not use the practice range or the mountain 9 hole course.

The layout of the course was great, but the greens were just slit and they didn't put any sand on them to smooth them out. It was a challenge to putt on them. The overall condition of the course was poor, the fairways needed to be cut, tee boxes needed attention......I guess I expected more.

Pretty tough to beat these views. Really the only place to play up here. Just went on the newly renovated canyon and river courses (9-18-17) and everything was in great shape, greens nice and firm and fast, just the way i like them! This is definitely a destination type course.

Great course. Recently updated. Provides a good challenge for all levels. Has fantastic views of the lake and national forest. Reasonable rates, offers quite a few discounts. Overall great course.

Absolutely stunning views on this course. Everything was immaculate except for the greens. Their version of ‘aeration’ is pretty much taking the greens. We had no warning and still paid full price for greens with rocks and sand on them.

We absolutely love this course! The 18 holes of River & Canyon are beautiful, bunkers are white sand, staff are so hospitable, carts have USB, great pro-shop. My only suggestion is to add little bottles of Prosecco 🌞

This course was recently renovated and it shows. It claims to be one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country and I certainly have not seen a better one.Beautiful views of lake Superior and the poplar River are at nearly every hole. The sawtooth mountain range in northern Minnesota is on full display. The colors are unbelievable in the fall. 🍁

This place is really cool! Only ever been there during a bike race. But I can imagine golfing here is awesome! The views. Ugh. Awesome. Side note, so sad about papa Charlie’s. Burned down during the bike race. Sad!

Superior National hosted the Lutsen 99er bike race. Excellent venue and wonderful hosts. They provided easy access to space for food trucks, sponsor and vendor tents, bike wash, etc. Great setup and layout in a beautiful location.
