Hands down the best ski resort in the Midwest. The new ultra fast group chairlifts are the best that I have been on. They will get you up the mountain super quick, giving you more time to ski. The runs are always well maintained and quick. The ski up lodges are fantastic, you can literally ski right up to your front door. The views and scenery from a top the mountains is unbeatable in the Midwest.

Best ski hill within 500 miles or more. Kind of on the expensive side with limited hours, so no night skiing, but nice lifts, gondola to the far hill, lots of runs. The views are exceptional. If it wasn't for the ever increasing price for lodging and lift tickets, I would give 5 stars.

Eat your heart out Tahoe! You can find AMAZING skiing with greater lake views, without the California prices or crowds, up on the North Shore of Minnesota. Even with the abysmal winter of 23/24 we found plenty of open runs to keep us entertained, great grooming conditions, and just a good all around vibe.

The scenery is magical, being on the mountain and seeing a Superior view! All the staff are pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Food is yummy and priced for tourists, of course... Still worth it when hungry. Very pleased with our decision to be HERE for our multi-family Winter Break ❤️❄️ 🏂

Good Midwestern ski area. High speed lifts allow good access to most of the terrain. My only annoyance is the very unclear policy on skiing with your backpack. I have a small USWE 1.6 liter ski backpack. One single lift op did not like my pack and wanted me to take it off each ride up. No other lifties had an issue and the patrol all had larger packs. It won't stop me from returning, but I don't ski without a first aid kit. I even rode bar down the entire day because I have my kid with me. So it was an odd experience. Food prices are average for a large ski area. Parking is at a premium if you are not staying in a hotel on site. I recommend that if you want to be there multiple days. It is a bit of a walk from their main lot, but its no worse than any western resort. The best part is the view.

Great way to end the snowboarding season. The snow was perfection & the view of Lake Superior, fantastic. Lutsen did not disappoint– will be back!

I recommend going in the fall it's beautiful. Go, take the gondola up to the top eat dinner (very expensive it was about $80 for 3 people)look at the views and hire around . Id recommend planning on being up there for about 4 hours if you want to hike around and eat and enjoy the views.

I have skied a lot of places... Lutsen is one of the worst. Our "ski in/out" lodging only got us to two of the peaks. They closed the bridge between peaks, they closed the gondola for mech reasons... we were stuck skiing same runs over and over. Fryer was out in the chalet so only pizza and burgers, Hand dryer out in men's room. Snow makers blow on you while on lift freezing water on your goggles. TV doesn't work... told it will take days to fix. I understand lack of snow but all of my issues are within their power to fix. Maintenance issues need to be fixed before we spend this much money here again. On the plus side, workers were very friendly and the slopes are better than most Midwest mountains.

I sure hope Lutsen never goes Full-Aspen, but seems to be kinda heading in that direction. 2023/24 November Opener was pushed back due to unseasonably warm weather, but the north shore area between Lutsen and Grand Marais is worth the trip, skiing or not.

Great place for the whole family anytime during the year. This time some of us did the gondola ride and others in our group the alpine slide. Both things were awesome

The gondola was cool and the views are epic! My only gripe is that I really wanted to go on the alpine slide and it was closed during the week. I was pretty annoyed at that. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and we were there during the week when it was less busy but disappointed that the slide was closed..

I've skied here a number of times and it's definitely the best spot in MN to explore. It's also 4 hrs away from Twin Cities metro - the time commitment and prices compete with a weekend trip to any of the Copper Mountain type resorts.I went on a Gondola ride in the fall for colors along the North Shore and recommend that. An awesome spot to hike around for colora, and the Gondola was very reasonable or free for small kids. Amazing views of Lake Superior and some pretty unique terrain in Minnesota. There's obviously a lot more private spots on public land to access around here, but Lutsen does it pretty well and not very busy on a Friday afternoon during one of the few colorful weekends in the Fall. The gondola makes the views very accessible for lots of people with a lookout and bar / restaurant ~200 yds or so from the end of the lift. I believe the gondola and lookout from the bar is accessible with all ramps.Super rugged hiking along ski runs for those seeking a workout as well!

An absolutely perfect day trip for our anniversary! Tickets for the gondola and alpine slide were a little under $100 but the views were priceless in the fall! We arrived around 11am on a Saturday and the lines were already down the mountain but surprisingly the wait didn't feel long. Make sure to spend some extra time up at the chateau before heading back down the mountain. If you have to choose between the gondola or the alpine slide I would suggest the slide because you still get some views with the lift up to the top!

Best skiing and ski experience in the Midwest! Stunningly beautiful on the lake, fantastic runs and really top notch service! Stayed at Eagle Ridge and loved the ski in / ski out. Service amazing. My daughter’s ski fell out of the gondola (our mistake) and the team relentlessly searched for it until they found it. Really running a great ski hill!

We stayed here over New Years and it was the best weekend of my life. It was busy but the high speed lift and the staff grouped people to fill the chairs made the waits short. They had fireworks at the chalet on New Year’s Eve to celebrate. We stayed on site and they had a hot tub/pool that we’re outside just like the big out west resorts (Vail). There was a nice mixture of terrain with greens, blues, black and double blacks open. It was a little spendy but I made lifelong memories with my kids. We hope to visit again soon.

Mother Nature hasn’t been very helpful this year to the winter lovers. However, you would not get grumbles from those who have made their way up to Lutsen Mountains thus far. The conditions are spectacular. The crews have worked so hard to make and groom the trails and if you want to ski yet this season, get yourself up here! It is fabulous and fun!

Best fall colors experience you can ever experience up north. The gandola ride is worth all the long wait times. Very well maintained and the location is seems to be the best spot for Skiing and other adventure winter sports. Gotta come back in winter to experience this location covered in Snow

I came for the views and the Alpine slide and was not disappointed! The gondola was a comfortable smooth enjoyable ride above the mountains. Then the chairlift took me to the Alpine slide and I quickly breezed down the mountain in excitement. There was a cafe at the top of the mountain and a gift shop at the bottom. Great place for the summer, and looks like great slopes for the winter.

We drove through the 'ski village' area only to access a nearby waterfall trail, but the previous evening's rain made that trek a bit more treacherous then we had prepared for, so we decided to enjoy a gondola ride instead! Very scenic! Great (approx) 10 minute ride! One negative: Standing in the ticket line with the alpine slide folks...it seemed like very few of them had managed to fill out their safety waivers beforehand, so it really bogged down the ticket-purchasing process. The ability to purchase 'gondola only' tickets elsewhere would have been nice.

If you haven't been to Lutsen, it's an amazing experience you won't regret. Our group rented a "ski in" Condo that made the entire trip extra awesome. We never needed to drive anywhere unless we wanted to check out the local live music at the bar nearby. The weather in March was perfect and we enjoyed our long weekend Vacation.

We skied here for two days (Dec 28-29). During the holiday season, they require you to purchase a 2-day pass. We picked up the lift tickets and my rentals the evening before to avoid the morning zoo. Both days, we didn't arrive until about 10 am and by then cars were being parked directed to the lower lots. The trolleys/shuttle to the gondola/lift ticket/rentals were frequent and didn't linger too long. Also, free parking! There's one EV charger in the Papa Charlie's lot but I'm guessing that gets claimed pretty early in the morning. When we were there in the evening, an "ICE-hole" was parked in the stall by the charger.I could only figure out how to get to Eagle Mountain and Moose Mountain because maps were sparse and I'm directionally challenged. It was cold weather on Dec 29, so they were filling only every other gondola to Moose Mountain and every two gondolas on the return to Eagle Mountain, so gondola lines were long and slow moving. A helpful employee told me about Moose Access run that takes you to Moose Mountain, which had a return run to Eagle Mountain. Very pretty views (that's what pics are of).My main complaint is how poorly marked the runs are. I'm used to Vail system and don't get lost on their hills. I'm also used to maps on the lifts, so we can plan out our next run on the ride.

The website was very confusing as to how the alpine slide situation works. You have to ride a ski lift up to it which I was not a fan of at all. I was under the impression from the wording on the website that you ride the gondola up and take the slide down. I'm petrified of heights so the ski lift part ruined it for me. Also, the prices are a bit outrageous, especially for the slide, but my daughter was really looking forward to that part of our trip based on what we saw online. I don't think we would feel the need to go back the next time we are in the area.

What in mountain is about four hours away from home, but it is worth the drive every time! I wish the Alpine coaster was a little bit cheaper for an all day pass, but you’re paying for tourism ha ha ha I work in the business so I know how it goes. The staff is fantastic and always very friendly, this is the third time we’ve been there and plan on being back many more!

We went on the alpine slide and the gondola with our 7 and 9 year olds. The wait for physical tickets was rather long. The over looks were beautiful. I feel like the cost was steep, however. I think making the slide be two times and the gondola once at that price would have been more fair. They could do a lot more to pick up trash around the road (the on road parking area was really bad) as it was sad to see. Tourists could certainly do their part by putting trash in a bin.All that said, the rides were fun, the views were great and the only line was the ticket line. The kids wanted to ride the slide again, but I wasn't going to stand in that line a second time.

Took the gondola up/down. We enjoyed eating our smoked fish from Russ Kendall's Smoke House at the top with great views. We did the small loop along the ridge which was nothing spectacular. Smoke from the fires ruined our view a bit, but I cannot mark down the review for that. By the way, they allow dogs on the gondola.

Great skiing/snowboarding weekend.Lots of runs to choose from and not busy despite being a long weekend (it was around 1F).We stayed at the Lutsen Inn and took the free shuttle from the main parking lot (drove a couple minutes from the Lutsen Inn). The flats looked good but we didn’t stay there so I don’t know much about them.Lifts were only open until 3:15/3:30. Familiarize yourself with the different routes as it’s a vast area with lots of options.

🚨 Best skiing in the Midwest 🚨 Lutsen seems to have a enough of everything to keep all levels of ⛷ skiers happy on its +800ft of vertical drop and nearly 100 runs. We spent one day cruising on the far side of the gondola at Moose Mt. and the other day nearest to the main access road at Eagle 🦅 and Ullr. At no point were we bored and we experienced quite bit of variety before calling it quits. We will be back and we can’t wait to bring friends this time. 😎
