Wandered into Austin ostensibly to see the SPAM museum (random, abrupt exit from I-80) but left Austin entranced and pleased that places like Tendermaid still exist in our increasingly place-less landscape. The burger was unique (messy!) and delicious; the hard-ice cream shake (chocolate — the gold standard, made with Hershey’s syrup!) a throwback to my kitchen. But the warm welcome and history lesson from the busy staff sealed the deal. I will make the pilgrimage again if/when I pass by on the interstate. Look for Wheaton College types to stop in on their return trip!Vegetarian options: Hahaha…why? It says on the sign “Tendermaid Hamburgers” so it would appear to be a destination for non-vegans, Captain Obvious 😁. The pickles were good, however, so there is that.

These lady’s and their healthy sandwich’s are amazing. They are so friendly we really wish that we lived in the area. We visited on our multiple state motorcycle road trip and the staff was amazing and helpful as well as very knowledgeable. Thanks for the great memories. Quaint throwback to the 50's. Delicious burgers better eaten with a spoon! It's crumbled beef, with many scrumptious fixings! You can also attempt the Tendermaid challenge: eat 30....yes, 30 cheeseburgers, 84oz of water, a bag of chips and a malt in under 26 minutes!! Best of luck!

Warning: all hamburgers are very loose sloppy-Joe style meat, even comes with a spoon! Your digestion won't do a thing to this non-food. Tootsie rolls come with every meal too, in case your system isn't fully backed up or diarrhea central already.

So, I wanted to like this place. The staff are nice, so 2 stars. I’ve heard good things, but…they serve lukewarm hamburgers!?I am a little worried if the meat is kept at a food safe temperature.For $7 each, I should have gone to Culver’s. Or the taco place down the street.Nice staff, by pool/park, subpar food.

I bought lunch today for me and two others, one of them being my 90 year old Mother. I ordered the food for pickup and when I got there the ladies were so friendly and it was nice to see the owner Sarah. The order was perfect just as I requested. The food was great and freshly made, nice thick malts, and the burger was overflowing with fresh burger, some of the best Chili I have tasted. The prices were just as fair as any other place in town .

We were in town for business and happened to drive by this cool, throw back in time looking burger place, and had to stop. SO GLAD WE DID!! You don't walk in many places anymore and get that kind of service, super friendly.It's obvious they love what they do and they do it well. Hometown charm and flair delivered through loose meat sandwiches! Always great service and attitude, a really fresh product and something I LOVE stopping by!I got to introduce my kids to Tendermaid for the first time and to day they loved their custom order sandwiches is an understatement! Only problem is that I'm now a little afraid we won't be able to dine anywhere else whenever we visit Austin in the future! I'd highly recommend a stop here for anyone who has not tried this before!
