One person on the tills with a line through the store. Noticed a few employees wandering and chatting by the staff area. Completely unfair to the one employee working the tills. Kudos to the woman running the front, she was doing an amazing job.

I can't ever walk out of there with out spending $40 or more for dinner and drinks. Their prices are ridiculous! I understand bringing your prices up in the summer time, but having it that way all year round is uncalled for. Their stuff that is expiring and gets marked down is the normal price anywhere else. I guess they would rather waste all of the food they waste rather than lower their prices so people actually buy it. Can't blame inflation either because it was like this even before that. I'd much rather drive to Fremont and go to Walmart or Meijer.

You know, at first glance, Gene's might not seem like anything super special. However, consider all the cold, sterile, fully automated stores you visit today - no heart, no character - just, "Move along bi-pedal number. Get your items, give us your money and leave."This is NOT Gene's. The heart is there, the character is there. A real butcher and deli section. A corkboard up front to advertise your trailer, motorbike (or just about anything) for sale (how often do you still see that these days?!) Some really good sales items which the advertise clearly on the sign in the parking lot. Exotic items as well as down to earth favorites. I've NEVER had an instance where employees were rude or unhelpful.

What a great small hometown store. They have so many varieties of bratwurst and salads. They have many items you can't find at other stores. Highly recommended

Over priced. Get expired food all the time. Deli workers can’t count or do basic math. 3 times in the last week the deli workers either over charged me due to lack of basic mathematical knowledge, or don’t give me the amount of food, I paid for due to the lack of education and disability. Store is a joke

Anytime I go camping this place is my go-to grocery store. They have an old school meat counter & carry certain meat item that no other grocery store has. They have the best peppered bacon I know of

Rude staff, repeatedly rude. They are not friendly. I've called twice about this, once over a year ago and once about 10 years ago. A few months ago I finally asked myself why I'm still going there. I shop local, small business owners almost every time I shop. After 30 years of being mistreated I finally quit Genes for good. I will never go back. PJ and Rebecca and the 28ish year old guy in the deli are amazing and I will miss seeing them. The rest of them and especially their cashiers I would fire if I owned that store.

We bought a pizza from the deli, it was huge and so many toppings! $11.99. i have 4 kids, fed them all.I love their meat department, they have alot of different choices, especially during grilling time. Their tamalies are AMAZING. We ordered a barbie cake through them and it was delicious.. so soft and yummy.

Very nice grocer! An older building, but well-lit, organized and very clean. Lots of nice produce (even in winter), organics and dairy free and vegan stuff in addition to an exceptional-looking fresh meat counter. (I eat a vegetarian diet, but the deli has a huge selection and is very bright and clean.)We just moved to town from an urban area and I was so surprised to have such a great selection in a less populated area!The service is very friendly here, as seems to be consistent for this town in general.

Ordered a full sheet cake a week and a half in advance and asked for buttercream frosting. The details that I asked for were GREAT, but when I went to cut into it, it was whipped frosting not buttercream like I ask or ordered. When I contacted them about it, they checked the order form twice and seen that buttercream was circles, they asked me if the cake was eaten, and I wasn't going to tell 100 people they couldn't eat it because it wasn't what I ordered. They asked me what I wanted done about it so I told them they made the mistake what are you going to do about it, and they asked me if it got ate and there was only a quarter left so they said they couldn't give me half off, but they could give me 20.00 back. They told me that they had just got done with a wedding cake, so they probably picked up the wrong piping bag, to me that is no excuse when you're paying good money for it So, if you order from the bakery make sure it is what you asked for before leaving the store. Needs to be a little bit more professional about what they are doing.

Friendly staff and great selection. I would recommend anybody to check out their meat section " best in 100 mile radius" I've also been going there for many years and the produce section has made a lot of improvements. Keep up the good work. Love this place and the service can't beat hometown convenience matched with excellent selections.

Love this place. I live just north on Toledo OH and go to White Cloud often and stop here on every trip.. The meat counter here is awesome. Get the Black Magic marinade Pork and Chicken and Sizzlers. Incredible

Snotty people. Owners are young privileged brats!! Prices are OUTRAGEOUS!! Stores outdated and shelves are dirty, outdated cans included! No longer supporting Croton as well. With. Customer service is also far from stellar.

Clean, organized store, however the hot deli food was mediocre at best at 4:30 on a Friday. I would have thought the fried chicken would have been better, as well as the fried veggies. Other than that it was okay.

Great little market that is on my way home from work. Always have what I need to get through the night. From milk, to quick meals, and most staples in between.Love their black nugget seasoned meats!

Very expensive and staff not friendly at all but they take the time to look you up and down..i tried couple times to greet diffrent staff and apparently they didn't hear me...used to be one of my favorite places to shop...I know my couple dollars not needed but still...boy times have changed..smh

Their beef is Choice.The steaks are always top notch because of that. I will not buy beef anywhere else. I do all of my shopping at Gene's. The prices are the same or better as all the stores around here. Never do I have a grumpy cashier.

Extremely kind and helpful staff . I went to the store for my friends for parchment paper.Dollar gener had 1 roll of wax paper.. Went to Genes and asked if they knew if there was a difference.Not only did this helpful woman Google it and teach me that it is heat-resistant as opposed to wax paper, but also was kind enough to help me find it in the store.

I only gave two stars because are cashier was EXTREMELY RUDE!!!!!! I work with the public everyday and I know sometimes customers are rude also but i was very friendly with her so there was absolutely no reason for this!!!!! We travel thru Grant every weekend and I like to give small business my business but im NOT SURE NOW that i will ever stop there again!!!! So sad!!!!!

The people are great and very helpful. I started going there after Plumbs shut down. Prices are good and they carry what I need, I guess you could say it's a Hometown store even in Newaygo.

I was at the meat counter at Genes and the fella behind the counter, although friendly, had a mouth full of black teeth. It was a real turn off. I question the hygiene of an employee who does not have good oral habits. What could this persons own hygiene and sanitary standards be? This employee deals with the public and works behind the meat counter! What type of hand washing and sanitary meat handling procedures is this employee using if their own hygiene habits are lacking? Who ever is doing the hiring is turning customers off having this person work behind the meat counter.

The meat counter! Hands down, one goes to Gene's for their meat. Home made sausage and bratwurst, the Black Pork and Chicken is wonderful on the grill, the slab bacon is always a great buy. They have a good craft beer selection. They are a small Spartan store so you can get ok sale prices on other groceries.

Nice small store with every thing you need. I don't do my weekly shopping here but I go here probably 3 times a week to get items I missed or need right now.Friendly people clean. They have a meat counter which is a plus
